BEST card shop anywhere. I made a number of business trips to SF, and I always tried to stop in. Each trip I bought wonderfully unique postcards to send to my daughter. She still has those cards, and it's a fun remembrance of my trips and our connection through the mail. (beats the heck out of texts and emails that get deleted!)

San Francisco is full of unique shops, but Avant Card is definitely the best card store in the Bay Area, if not the whole state.

The buyers have absolutely exquisite taste. The quality and diversity of local SF postcards is unparalleled. As for the greeting cards, the assortment provides cards you will never see anywhere else.

The store is small but well organized and neat. It is almost like someone is following you around filling up the empty spaces .

They specialize in unique holiday cards, not just for Christmas but especially for San Francisco's major holiday, Halloween! Throughout the year, the stock of everything from birthday to sympathy cards is just incredible. The hand made cards are really works of art!

Pros: so neat and clean, you could eat off the floor!

Cons: Overwhelming choices

Store has a good, central location by Union Square & Chinatown. Nice cards. Cards and designs you won't find other places, be sure to give them a look.

Avant Card is as hip as its name offering a phenomenal selection of greeting cards, postcards, boxed cards, and calendars too. This is not your mother's Hallmark! There are all kinds of cards -- including true pieces of art, irreverent, funny, every occasion you can think of, keepsakes, and, of course, if you want a postcard of San Francisco, this is the only place to go. The postcard selection is so fabulous that you'll want to keep them instead of mailing. And the store is beautiful as well - the design is sleek & very vogue -- just like the people who work there. If you're a tourist to San Francisco, it's a must see. If you're a local, you'll never want to buy a card anywhere else. I am addicted. The store truly provides affordable art for giving (through their cards) and I always get a thank you from people I send them too. You will find the perfect card you're looking for every time. I've never been to a card store that even remotely compares. Highly recommended!

Avant Card is a really very very cool card and paper store near union square and Chinatown. They have very fine quality cards and paper, but dont look for any of that Hallmark Stuff, because you wont find it here! Avant Card is more like the designer clothes of cards. The staff here are very friendly too.

Believe it or not, I am a really big fan of greeting cards, so I get pretty picky about which greeting cards I buy for friends. On most occasions, I spend hours shopping different stores to get my friends the perfect cards for whatever occasion it may be.

I found Avant Card by accident while walking home one day, already holding a greeting card I bought from Papyrus for a good friend of mine as her birthday was coming up. From the outside, the store didn't look too impressing. It was small, and with only three customers inside at the time and one person working, I didn't think much of it. However, as I am a fan of greeting card stores in general, I decided to pay Avant Card a little visit.

I was blown away. Unique cards that you would not find in your local drugstores, such as those by Hallmark and Carlton, were inside this very small store. Cards from witty to funny to serious were inside this store, and after several visits, it has quickly become one of my favorite greeting card stores. The atmosphere was nice enough so that you could easily take your time and read through the cards before purchasing them. The only con is that one of the salesperson I met wasn't all too friendly, but until the time of checking out, I was so immersed in the world of greeting card shopping that I really did not care too terribly.
