If I could give zero stars, I would. My yelp.com review still stands with this addition:

Out of desperation, I wrote to the CEO and the Executive Vice President of Operations, Apartment Communities of Irvine Company, which owns and operates the Villas of Renaissance. Several days later, a very nice young woman called me and we made an appointment for me to have a phone conversation with her boss, Michelle Grande, district manager in SD. The appointment was 7-28-11 at 10:00 am PST. No call.

Update 7-28-11 - District manager Michelle Grande called me an hour late for our 10:00 am meeting and left a voicemail "So sorry, I was in a meeting that ran over, please call me to discuss your concerns". Really? An hour late? I know meetings can run over, but do you have a cell phone? An admin? A computer? I've never left a client hanging for an hour because of a long meeting. And if one more person asks me to "discuss my concerns" I'll pop a blood vessel. MY KITCHEN FAUCET HAS BEEN BROKEN SINCE MAY! HELLO?!?

Update 8-1-11 - Left a message for district manager Michelle Grande asking for someone to call me between 9 am and 12 pm today. No response.

Be sure to look at the pictures I posted too. This place is really, really terrible in all aspects except I have a few excellent neighbors.Lived here 3 yrs, see the pics for how poor the maint. is. I suspect the other 12 buildings here are in similar shape.

The Villas of Renaissance has been charging me $300.00/mo more than my neighbor with exactly the same floor plan, same view, we live right next door to each other. They got brand new carpet and appliances; my carpet is old, faded and stained and my appliances are rusted and decrepit.

The leasing agents are all smiles and promises until you sign. They lie about the noise levels, the number of jet flyovers from the military base (sometimes as many as 30+ a day, well into the night), they will pressure you to sign up quickly or risk "losing" an apt. They tell prospective tenants these apts were built to be condos and have extra soundproofing and insulation. Another lie, the walls and ceilings are thin. The fountains that they are so proud of are supposed to help with ambient noise, but they haven't been working properly since April 2011. You will hear a lot about the gym, the movies, and the cooking classes. Just remember that none of that will matter when your toilet breaks and you can't get anyone out to fix it. They also charge you a large fee just to apply.

My lease is up in 2 months and I can't wait! This apartment complex is in an ideal location, and looks nice on the outside, but it has been the worst complex I have ever lived in. The noise from neighbors is absolutely ridiculous!!! You can hear everything from the hallway and the tenants below me continuously blare their music to the point my floors are vibrating and windows are shaking. I know I am not the only one complaining. The office staff just reply that it is out of their hands and that the Irvine Company management are looking into it - it has now been almost a year and the noise continues. My car has been broken into and I know I am not the only one it has happened to either - I continue to see broken glass in different locations in the parking garage on both the "locked" side and visitor side. Maintenance requests usually take well over a week to get a response. I cannot wait to get out of here!!!

Pros: Free coffee, pool, theater (with free popcorn, soda, and candy), located near a nice park, they also do lots of nice little things like give you a birthday note.

Cons: Hidden costs, the water bill is done by building, meaning that if you don't use water for a month, you would still have to pay. With cable, you must sign up with University cable, which is a rip off.

The maintenance is okay, but if your problem isn't an emergency, good luck! Our microwave was broken, and it took about 2 weeks to get a new one when it should have taken 1. I guess that doesn't seem too bad now that I think about it, but we are colleges students who are very dependent on the microwave, so it is quite long.

Situated right in the golden triangle, this apartment complex is beautiful. Before recently purchasing a home I lived in this apartment complex for over a year and I loved it. The complex is very well maintained and feels like world class living. It has great amenities with several pools to choose from, a great clubhouse with an awesome workout facility, movie theatre, a room where they host cooking classes. And one perk I absolutely loved is that they provide free workout classes for residents. Classes which includes yoga, pilates, aerobics, and more. The aerobics instructor is awesome! She teaches a fun hip hop aerobics course. The saturdays yoga class is great as well, usually full so get there a little early.

Movie nights are nice. The theatre room is pretty nice and get there early enough you can enjoy some popcorn and soda.

The apartments themselves are pretty nice, probably one of the nicer apartments I have ever reside in. I chose a two bedroom two bath apartment where each room had its one bathroom attached. The kitchen isn't as big as I like, but it works.

Overall, I definitely would recommend this apartment complex to anyone. With a great location and wonderful amenities, at times I wish I hadn't moved!

Having moved around quite frequently, I believe that the Villas of Renaissance is one of the nicer complexes in the area. You pay a hefty price for them though, unless you can get a 2 bedroom/den and then try to get someone to live in the den, which is the same size as the smaller bedroom, by the way. The den has also french doors on it so there is privacy! Anyway, the Villas is kept very well-- the flowers and shrubbery are well-maintained and the fountain is kept very clean. It is nice to walk around this area since there is security as well and beautiful to look at. Security has never been a problem for me but someone told me that their car was stolen once so be careful.

This place is great, looks just like an Italian town with lots of foliage and fountain. Luxurious. Great patios. Also, in-unit washers and dryers. The gym is a good is a good size, several pools. The apartments are huge, lots and lots of storage space. Walk-in closets! I was very impressed.
