I went for dinner a couple times and found that the meals were tasty, but I didn't find them affordable. They have higher end prices for just average Italian food. They recently opened up a sports bar on one end and we walked in for a drink and some appetizers, but we were basically ignored (they weren't busy), so we left. No one noticed.

Great Pizza and great Gnocchi! Best Italian food in San Marcos! Friendly family atmosphere with good food and very reasonable prices! Take the family or have a night out, you wont be disappointed!

Seriously go to Johnny Carinos for a not so fancy place or Carmela's (760) 471-2131 or http://www.carmelacucina.com/ (we love this place and looks like we will only be eating there from now on for Italian food! Real Italian food we should know we are!)its off San Marcos blvd kinda hidden look em up on Google! There I would have spent $10.00 more but got so much better and more worth it food! We had two entrees both pasta with chicken and some mozzarella stick's (MY KID WONT EVEN EAT THEM!) and the garlic bread that she also again would not eat.

I would rather eat mc donalds then this tomato soup looking marinara sauce that is taste less the food is so horrible my 3 yr old wont eat anything. Their idea of bread sticks or garlic knots is NO JOKE those cheap like van dr kamps franch roll not even a whole one burned a little with some more tomato soup looking / tasting marinara sauce! Dont waste your time or money like I did. YUK!

From their site what I read when O ordered for pick up and so not what I got!

GARLIC BREAD
Traditional garlic bread served with marinara sauce 2.95

Also frozen is not better with a restaurant! Fresh is so much more worth it and charge people a little more. Also bread aint that hard to make from scratch and it wont burn like those french rolls were!

Cons: Cheap food! Not even close to Italian!

I drive about 45 miles, from East County, just to have dinner here. It makes the Olive Garden look like a McDonalds happy meal - even though I enjoy both. It's an authentic Italian food restaurant, with both rustic, and high class food selection. Every time I go there, I get very good service and always leave happy - not to mention full. There both inside and outside seating, usually has live music (not my typical style of music, but it works). One of the waitresses I had when it first opened almost two years ago, told me it was opened by the owner of some very high class Italian place in Del Mar - I don't recall the name of it, but it was one of the more upscale restaurants in North County. It's located across the street from CSUSM, and since it's prices are good, and food is great, I would say it would be a great place for a date - beating out anything else in restaurant row.
