Low-profile Big-taste Bakery in North Berkeley
by Anonymous
Walk in the door of this cute little neighborhood bakery and you are met with the most homey baked aromas that you can find anywhere. As you enter on the right side is a massive display case featuring hand-made pastries such as cranberry apple strudel, pumpkin chocolate-chip muffins (ummm!), not too sweet cinnamon and cranberry breakfast buns (better than La Farines), parisianne croissants, the most awesome Cognac Almond Croissant, authentic English scones and a wide assortment of thick and moist Cookies (at least 10 different kinds)! In the center section of the shop is their cake case displaying various European cakes (some flourless) and a wide array of individual sized desserts such as chocolate covered Eclairs, Cannoli's and seasonal fruit tarts. To your left they have a wonderful selection of breads (Pain au Lait is a favorite) as is a newly introduced Artichoke/Tomato round bread with coarse black pepper, sea salt and seeds sprinkled on top! Then you find the traditional British Pasties hand-made by the shop's 2 English bakers. You can order them heated up while you wait! This bakery also is known by word-of-mouth as producing fantastic Wedding Cakes that focus on less sugar and more flavor! The bakery features Organic Thanksgiving Coffee that really complements the flavors of whatever morsel you buy here. Get here early on Saturdays, as it is the only day the bakery features Bomboloni's (Italian donuts) freshly made, filled with silky pastry cream, and coated with castor sugar. These little treasures melt in your mouth and are usually sold out by noon. Overall a delightful bakery (owned by a Pastry Chef) in a cute little neighborhood. Check it out!!

This is a great bakery with lots of interesting items to offer. I never had anything here I didn't like. I used to have a running route that went by this bakery, and the smell wafting out onto the sidewalk was divine. Often it compelled me to stop running and stop in for a treat, which I would wolf down, then resume my run, feeling fortified. The location isn't all that out of the way despite other comments posted here -- it's very close to the North Berkeley BART station.

You have to look a little bit to find this place. It isn't on all of the major thouroughfares in Berkeley and its totally worth going there to find it! My gf and I try to run by here when we're headed to SF or going around the area. The aroma and pasties are great and its worth a try if youre in the area.

This bakery is located quite a ways from the Berkeley campus. If my friend's apartment wasn't in this area I doubt I'd have ever discovered it.
Menu items are the cookies, cakes, danish, muffins, and croissants. All are made from scratch and must have gobs of butter as their main ingrediants... Extremely tasty, tough to moderate oneself while exposed to those wonderful aromas.
