What a nightmare being a nurse for years , I never in my life seen a hospital in such disarray . one hand did not know what the other was doing , If you are going to barstow hospital DON'T DO IT. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE . 10 HOURS OF PAIN AND THEY DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM .A SHOT FOR PAIN WILL NOT HELP GET MY RECTUM EMPTY . ITS NOW 7 DAYS AND I AM DOING HOME MEDICAL ON MY SELF . THIS PLACE IS NEW . BUT THE HELP LOOK LIKE CRACK HEADS THAT DON'T GIVE A HOOT. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THAT PLACE GO ANYWHERE BUT THERE .

granted wasnt the brightest idea but i broke a small 3; light bulb in rectum.dont matter if you r the causse ,but instead of transporting me to a trauma hospital...BARSTOW HOSPITAL LET ME SIT THERE FOR 24 HRS BEFORE THEY PREFORMED SURGERY ! among alot more then that ...they want to charge me for them messing me up?....this hospital and they way they treat the patients needs to change now! i ended up with a colonstomy with reversal and bills they said i wouldnt get im still having issues 2 yrs later...even requested to be transferred why would a hospital refuse to transport me?

My husband was hospitalized on july 10,2009,he died 15 hours later! they say he died because he was a heavy drinker and that is the reason he passed Wow!When I talked to his doctor he told me he was going to be released in a day or two.I went home and within 45 minutes my husband was dead.If I new his condition was that serious I would never have left his side, and why wasn't he in ICU I really feel something went wrong and it will be investigated!

My Mother was admitted to Barstow Community Hospital, I live in Minnesota and am her only child; she is not married. She signed a HIPPA letter giving me permission to have access to her medical records. I telephoned the hospital 17 times in one day trying to find out how she was doing, and what was wrong. 13 of these calls I was placed on hold and finally hung-up when no one can back to help me. I talked to a nurse 4 times and was told they were waiting for results and the doctor would call me. My Mother never even saw a doctor the entire day, I spoke with her at 9 pm and she had still not seen a doctor. When I spoke with a nurse in the morning, she said my mom was admitted with low blood sugar, and COPD or pneumonia; they were not sure which. In the afternoon when I called they said the doctor ordered another x-ray to confirm what was wrong and they didn??t have the results yet. When I spoke with a nurse at 9 pm she said the doctor had not yet come in, but that she had spoken with him and he said my mom would be released the next day. To sum this up she was admitted, had an x-ray, a doctor never saw her after she was sent to her room, yet a doctor ordered another x-ray. Again a doctor never saw her but was saying she would be released the next day. I truly cannot believe how terrible the service and care at this facility is.

You would think nurses would understand a daughters concern and try to be helpful. There was one nurse Brenda who did try to be helpful but if the doctor doesn??t come in there isn??t much she can do.

My room mate has diabetes along with liver and kidney damage. She almost died in the hospital in Las Vegas two years ago. She has severe neuropathy and sometimes can not urinate or move her bowels. When this happens she usually winds up in er. Barstow hospital has seen her six times for this condition and treated her.

Today she presented the same symptoms so I took her to the er. Since the patient was only barely conscious the nurse precluded that it must be an overdose of her medications. I tried to tell her that she needed to urinate and had been treated there before for the same problem.

After six hours of the patient just lying in a bed with no treatment I was able to find a nurse we know and he convinced them to put a cathader (sic) in. Her bladder was obviously very full and she eventually regained consciousness.

Unfortunately, the doctor got the urine drug screen which showed positive for amphetamines. That is probably either an error, no GCMS was done, or due to her asthma medication.

So rather than treat her they released her as having a overdose of amphetamines. She could not walk or stand when released. She was, and still is in pain, possibly her kidneys or liver.

They kept her in the er for 10 hours to basically do nothing but claim she had a drug problem. I spoke briefly with the doctor and reminded him that the urine test is not conclusive and that she had been treated before for the same problem. He simply acknowledged that the urine test was not conclusive but refused to do any further tests or treatment to stabilize her condition. He basically said she was high and had to sleep it off.

In her case this may be a fatal diagnosis, again referring to her two week hospital stay in Las Vegas for similar symptoms.

Worse, now and without GCMS confirmation, her medical record will show that she was treated, or misstreated, for a amphetamine overdose when the problem was most likely her liver or kidneys not functioning properly.

PROS: Did see patiend
CONS: Too eager to dismiss problems as drug related
