My husband and I would get burritos and/or soup from Como Esta because it's close to home and the food is OK. We stopped ordering anything with meat long ago because it was always full of gristle. On occasion the rice was undercooked and crunchy, but overall the vegetarian food was fine. Well, today October 8, 07, I ordered tortilla soup. This is the same soup I've ordered for over 3 years now, however today, it was more spicy than usual. (Like eating straight Tobasco sauce spicy.) So I took it back to the register to ask for something different. The manager was incredibly rude, and told me the soup had not changed, and to never order it again. Then, as she relunctly pulled money out of the cash register drawer, she continued to tell me how wrong I was about her food, that she personally oversees everything in the restaurant, that she has been in the restaurant business for years, and I should no longer eat there. What is worse is I had not asked her for a refund yet!

Good prices, good food, but slow service.

Unfortunately, this hole in the wall next to Walgreens is quite popular and you may wait 20-30 minutes for dinner on a weekday night. The carne asada burrito was great and you chose your salsa filling. The baby size option is good if you don't have a super size appetite. We wanted some flan on our way out, but ran out of time after waiting 5 minutes and had to leave without it. Until they expand the kitchen, increase the staff, or raise prices don't expect to get your meal quickly!

PROS: Yummy food, good prices
CONS: Popular, expect to wait

They make good burritos with extra additions like lettuce and tomatoes. They also cater well for vegetarians with a tofu-fajita like filling. This filling is oily, though. Their beans also are a little oily. Folks are friendly and maintain a real neighborhood feel.

PROS: Friendly, good vegetarian options
CONS: Oily

We love the ease of picking up burritos and nachos at this eatery next to Walgreens in Midtown. Most items are very tasty and you can customize the type of tortilla, beans, salsa and meat for the menu items. My kids love the baby burritos and quesadillas. The regular burritos are huge and often enough for two meals.

If you want to have the best burrito you will ever have--perhaps even some of the best Mexican food you will ever have--you need to search out this little tiny place hugging a Walgreen's on Middlefield in Palo Alto. Como Esta is heaven. Ignore the rest of the menu and get yourself a burrito--preferrably a carne asada burrito. The meat--succulent and flavorful. The salsas--homemade every day. The rice--your choice of brown or white, and cooked to perfection. No other crap necessary--a pure burrito the way god intended.

I sadly had to leave my old state, and I miss this place more than any other restuarant in the bay area (which, as locals know, is saying something.) Any chance of a Como Esta northeast?

PROS: Best burritos in the world. Cheap. Nice folks work there.
CONS: None whatsoever.
