Galco's Old World Grocery

Only in LA would you have the BevMo for old-time pop drinks. There are hundreds of obscure sodas, ades, juices, and root and ginger beers available, some straight out of the 50's, all in a beat up old supermarket. Be careful -- if you're the right type, you might sample one of everything.

Located on the main drag of Highland Park, Galco's is a taste of the old country. Yeah, it's an Italian deli, but it's all really a front for the real goods: a virtual storehouse of the world's finest sodas. Just a sampling: Hank's, Red Rock, A & W, Frostie, Dad's, NEHI, Moxie, etc. Even the Dr. Peppers and Cokes here are from the original recipe!

The best selection of sodas around bar none. They are very affordable and if you're in the mood, the store has an in-house deli, as well as a large stock of candy.

This is an entire grocery store devoted to bottled drinks. Any and every bottle soda is available and a variety of beers and other drinks. Amazing selection - real fun place to shop.

I patronized Galco's long before the hype (feature articules in LA Magazine and the LA Times), and believe me, it deserves every word of praise it has earned. Of course, you can spend hours upon hours marveling at the variety of sodas in neat little bottles. Ask an employee (or the owner, if you're lucky) and you'll probably get a story or two about certain favorites or the history of the shop. The employees are very nice and helpful. But Galco's isn't just about soda...they have a little delithat is affordable and delicious. A soda from the Midwest and a sub for lucnh...what could be better. Definitely worth the trip!

Have you ever wondered about soda pops you used to drink as a kid? I used to inquire as to whether I could find RC in a glass bottle. The solution to most any soda pop search can be found at the Galco Old World Grocery. Tucked away in an unpretentious neighborhood, the grocery store has 2 whole aisles dedicated to soda! You can find almost anything in a glass bottle, and it is so rewarding! I bring home a couple 6-packs every time I go. You see people there checking out every brand, smiling withmemories. The owner is a soda fan himself and goes out of his way to bring in pop from all parts of the country and even other countries. He doesn't charge an arm and a leg, either. Also, grab an awesome deli sandwich to go with those sodas- they aregreat! Well, well worth the drive.
