If you're looking for a hole in the wall, cheap, fills your tummy, yummy and humble place to eat... this is it.

Their XLB are probably one of the best I've had in SF...I usually order that along with some spicy wontons which are not spicy at all....if anything it's sweet and savory! Shanghai noodles, rice cakes, lion head meatball.....green onion pancakes.... Then finish it off with one of those sugar pastries they keep tempting you with during your meal!

If you're showing up on the weekend, try calling in for reservations.... the place does fill up so better prepare yourself for the cold foggy richmond weather.

oh I took away a star because though most of their menu items are very inexpensive....their appetizer dishes are too small for the price they're charging... an example, their spicy tendon...it's 1/3 of the size of what I can get at another dumpling place but I will not name names! =)

You're here for the dumplings. My s.o. and I had a couple of soups that were dull. (I think the Shanghai style soup just reuses old dumplings.) Anyway, skip the soup; you're here for the fresh dumplings. These aren't those bleach-white

The xiao long bao of course is the highlight at Shanghai Dumpling King (SDK), with good reason. I haven't tried enough places to rank SDK's preparation, but the dumplings were of the right consistency and contained sufficient soup inside.

Pros: Cheap, Delicious Eats

Cons: Crowded Space, Minimal Decor

This place is so good! It was my first time there so i ordered a variety of stuff and all of it was amazing. The place is small to eat in, but i ordered out and really enjoyed the food at my own home. The prices weren't too bad. I paid about 25 dollars for 4 dishes. I would recommend going here to try their xiao long bao... just be careful when you first bite into them... they're really hot!

Pros: Food is GREAT!!

Cons: Didn't have change for metered parking, had to park 5 blocks away

.

Went to this place based on review in SF Chronicle. Neglected to notice that review was 2 yrs and there was max slippage in quality since. Not worth the time, effort and money. Parking is a major pain as well. Street only in a busy section of town.

All the dumplings had very little filling. And the filling was very very stingy on the meat.

Potstickers - The skins were torn and they were not fried well. Very poor job at preparation.
Dumplings in soup- little meat. all dough
Xiao Long Bao - same can be gotten from freezer section of your local asian grocery.
Shanghai Noodles - bland mushy noodles with very little meat or veg. Almost like noodles mixed in soy sauce.
Fried rice dumpling - dumplings not chewy, otherwise same as Shanghai Noodles.
Tianjin bum - bad filling inside a soggy bun.

Service was bad. When we asked for suggestion she just picked most expensive thing on menu. And she kept forgetting our order.

I will never be back.

This place has really good pork "seiw lung bao." They specialize in dumplings. They also have really good stir fried rice noodle cakes called "chow neen go". Get it with pork and Chinese mustard greens. The Chinese pancakes are pretty good too. This place makes good Shanghai based food, but the restaurant itself is very small and can be a little unappealing to eat at. The regular dumplings are not quite as good.

The Shanghai dumplings here are very good. They give you 10 steamed dumplings for $4.95. It's even better than some of the (xiao lung bao) Shanghai dumplings found at dim sum restaurants. The dumplings have a strong ginger flavor filled

The Shanghai dumplings here are HIGHLY addictive. You have been warned. My particular faves also are the mini pork buns, pan fried, the string beans sauteed with garlic, and the Shanghai noodles also rock. I do not believe you can go

We're from NYC and frequented Joe's and Green Bo when we lived there. How excited were we to find an excellent dumpling house just a few blocks away from our new pad in San Francisco? Very excited. Delicious soup dumplings, great noodle
