Gone were the years when I used to recommend this gym in almost all aspects when 5 years ago, a bunch of crooked morons gradually infested this gym and replace the good old personnel from the front sales force up to the managers. From then on its been consistently gaining the ultimate bad reputation with utmost unprofessionalism, shady business practices and grave disregard for customer service. All they care about now is how will they victimize and milk every member, be it old and new, of their hard earned money.

Being an old time VIP loyal client (since 2005) who contributed 22 new members to them ever since I became a member, I used to pay only $99 a year. But last year they increased it to $299 without any explanation except by saying "Everything is different now and It's a management decision". Considering that I have friends in other Gold's gym branches who are still paying only $99/year for being a long time loyal VIP member. For me its not about the money rather It's about professionalism and caring for loyal contributing members. I even have to go out of my way to go to Gold's Gym Hollywood to get a valid explanation and have it resolved there and they have been professional in giving me time and help immediately in renewing my membership. Needless to say, If you want to get a Gold's Gym membership in the area and deal with professional, helpful and honest people then definitely go to the Hollywood location instead. You can get an "All Club" membership and work out in any Gold's Gym branches anyway. At least in Gold's Hollywood, you can get the best membership deal possible without being rip off.

Yes I still work out in this gym aside from other Gold's Gym branches because I am a serious lifter who's focused and committed only to my workout and because of proximity reason. The gym itself is not bad but definitely not something that can be recommended. Most of all, I never get affected by any negative and worthless employees of Gold's Gym Downtown LA. They are garbage who doesn't deserved respect and would be better off treated as they don't exist in this world.

For those of you who are planning to get membership in this branch, I suggest that you first read all the reviews online (Yelp, Insider Pages, Citysearch etc.) as all the negative reviews are valid and those that gave positive reviews are usually new members who remains to be exposed to the true colors of the current personnel of this branch with special mention to three people namely: Marco Gonzales (The principal front sales force who thinks highly of himself when he is actually a "nobody"), Dee Black (A Manager who literally does nothing except making his own dumb gym rules and walking around to fist bump, hug and flirts with girls) and Marc Lemons (A Manager who's at his best in avoiding and hiding from members when they have request or concerns and nothing gets resolve in the end). Make no mistake about it, they are all in cahoots to milk everything out of you underneath the fake friendly atmosphere facade that they will build upon you right from the beginning. Once you're already a member and they're done milking everything out of you then that's the end of it. By the time you have any concerns or request in the future, you will be very lucky If you get hold of their interest and time for it and will just keep you hanging until you get tired of following it up and will never be resolve in the end. Discover for yourself, the shameful popularity of these three people in all online reviews. They certainly are the pioneers in giving this branch a very bad reputation.

If you're in the sport of boxing, don't be impressed by the boxing ring you will see in the gym because their dumb rule (which was recently enforced by Dee Black) is that you can only train by yourself in the ring unless you will pay a Gold's Gym trainer when in fact NO one among their trainers is a boxing instructor. A gym member other than their trainers can hold the mitts for you but that gym member cannot say any word or any instructions. Another new dumb rule is "Unless you're working out with a gym member who's related to you then no one is allowed to give motivation nor push anyone to their limits in any way" because according to Dee, It is the job only by their trainers in the gym.

All the other online reviews would give you more than enough idea on how horrible this particular gym is in various aspect. Better yet, I challenge you to go just visit this gym personally, CAREFULLY observe everything and see for yourself as you validate all the negative reviews that you have read.

I've been a member at Gold's Gym in Hollywood for 6 years. In so many ways I think it's a really great gym, but tonight for the first time in 6 years I was bullied there. I kept my cool and reported it to the staff. The staff asked me to point the guy out, and I did. He's a tall white guy, straight I believe with a slight slavic accent. I waited 20 minutes for someone to at least go and talk to the guy about the incident. Still nothing. Then I saw the manager Karen and explained the incident to her. She seemed very upset and again asked me to point the guy out. And again, I pointed the guy out to her and another staff member. I waited another 20 minutes and realized that I was wasting my time by waiting. They did nothing. This is exactly how bullies become empowered. The powers that be want to dismiss it. So, I decided that the best thing to do was to go home and write a post about this incident. So I have a question for Gold's in Hollywood. Is bullying older gay men allowed there? If so, I want to know now so that I and others can take our business elsewhere.

Gold's gym downtown is more than just for working out, they use it for a hang out place too

The guys who work there are awesome... let's just say that they know how to make you feel good (really good!) about going there, especially in the private tanning rooms ;)

This gym is in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It is the perfect location for downtown business-people as well as the many students who inhabit the area.

I like this gym a lot. I was with L.A. Fitness for several years and Gold's is much better. The service is more professional, the equipment is more advanced and better maintained, and there are other perks: great classes, clean locker room and showers, complimentary towel service, complimentary shampoo and shower gel, steam room, sauna, lap pool, and jacuzzi.

One big plus is a small women-only workout room. There's also a boxing ring, smoothie bar, and three different channels on the TVs overhead. The interior is decorated with a nice, upscale look. The atmosphere is mellow, I think because the people there are serious about working out.

The spa next door to this gym gives discounts to the gym members.

Prices for Gold's are reasonable, but I would recommend signing up during a promotion or bargaining with the salespeople during sign-up.

PROS: Tons of perks
CONS: Not the most convenient unless you live in Downtown

I am mainly reviewing the Gold's Gym juice bar, which has been helpful when I have had to get lunch after dental appointments. Their selection of protein and juice shakes are really good, made on the spot. The staff are all courteous, but I would say that it is a somewhat intimidating place to walk into, since everyone who works there looks buff. I don't know what they can do to make more "normal" customers feel welcome. Perhaps have hire staff with more diverse body types?
