Loved it. We went there for late lunch...so sat in bar area. The oysters were fresh and just what we wanted. We also tried the Sauteed Dungeness Crab! Expensive, but I loved the garlic butter sauce. Also...we have decided Absinthe has THE best burger in the city.
THE BEST. SO good. Bun was perfect and the burger itself was melt in your mouth. I still like Slow Club and Fog City (need to try Sepenetine's).
I've been to Absinthe a few time and it's never been overly impressive. I think that its best to pop in for lunch sometime during the week as it can be overly busy if you try and go after a show or opera or for brunch on the weekend, and it just isn't worth the wait. If you do go in for lunch, try the croque monsieur (grilled ham and cheese w/ an egg). It's one dish that stands out. The french onion soup on the other hand, is a total let down. Service is fine, not amazing but also not bad. The atmosphere is nice with a good decor. I would give it a 2 1/2 if that was an option. There is just no excuse for average food in SF.
