In Short
Founded in 1967, Center for Yoga was the first studio in Los Angeles to offer different hatha yoga traditions, including ashtanga, anusara, kundalini, Iyengar and viniyoga. This welcoming and attitude-free school in Larchmont Village houses three different classrooms that accommodate more than 70 classes each week. The calming effects of wood floors and natural lighting almost override the whir of traffic outside.

The worst yoga studio ever! Arrogant lame creeps!

by soberla

I hate this place. I tried it a few times. I took a class with Steven Friedman; what an arrogant jerk. He was mean to people who weren't at the 'top' of their game physically, was impatient and rude. The guy at the desks is a complete arrogant jerk too and he's been there for years spreading ill will. Stay away!

Great environment for yoga

by CatJames88

The classes here are beautiful and informative. The teachers are well trained, and I wonder if some have medical training as well. The classes teach you so much about how certain areas of the body respond to stress and how to release stress through practicing asanas properly. I had no idea that was practicing "cobra" pose without achieving its full benefits until I stepped into this studio. They are currently giving an introductory offer for new students that is very reasonable. After that it's $22/class, but I think of it like an academic-yoga workshop. UCLA would charge more per unit than Yoga Works does per class, and without giving you the same peace of mind. Go yoga works!

Pros: Friendly staff, great teachers

Cons: A little $$, but worth it

Lost in the crowd...

by buzzlebee

Ever since they changed their prices, the classes have become waaaay too crowded. It's hard not to whack the person next to you during sun salutations. Plus, Yoga Works changed the beginning/advanced ranking of classes and they no longer discourage beginners from attending advanced classes. As a result, teachers have to spend far too much time explaining the basics to newcomers in what used to be very advanced classes. The new management seems more interested in herding 'em in than in creating a quality yoga experience.

Pros: Good teachers

Cons: Crowded, Crowded, Crowded

Center for Yoga is amazing

by adcygano

I highly recommend the Center for Yoga because they offer a large number of classes (in various yoga styles), the classes have an excellent teacher to student ratio, and the instructors are very aware each student's experience level. They also give individual attention to students who may have injuries.

Pros: many diverse classes, small classes, excellent instructors
