Suzu You is hidden gem in San Mateo. Its a family style restaurant favored by San Mateo's local Japanese population. Meals are modestly priced, well prepared and... well, like home if you miss Japan. Nothing fancy, but good. And there's NHK playing on a TV in the corner.

There are tons of Japanese restaurants in the Peninsula area, but Suzu stands out of the crowd because of its got French flavor in its cuisine. I highly recommend their appetitizers, specifically the fried taro balls, which melts in your mouth and it's well-balanced with a light sauce and garnish.

Their ramen is so-so at best, but their entree set might worth a try.

PROS: nice lighting and simple decorations make it a good place for dating
CONS:
