This place is not your regular roadhouse. The old west feel is real because, it's an old stagecoach stop built in 1890. The service was fast and the food was awesome. I had the 5 mile fennel roast pork which was melt in your mouth. The bistro fries it comes with are the best ever. The wife had the veggie lasagna and raved. My buddy had the Monster Burger, which was huge - and a great deal. Don't know what restaurant spider lady down there was writing about as the price of the burger is 9.99. Anyway, I liked the racer 5 on tap. the wife went for a white wine from Austria she loved. Buddy had the tandoori chicken Caesar which was a great flavor combo. A happy find. Big Joe Like! Try it for yourself.

Large place with eclectic, interesting variations of traditional fare. Always tasty. The main room has wonderful western ambience with the bar and a fireplace, the casual pizza room has a big screen TV and the patio has a lovely garden. Spent $100 for 3 adults, included drinks, appetizers, full dinners and great chocolate cherry dessert. Even some live music.

Come prepared with TONS of patience! The service was the slowest I've experience in a very long time! It took 15min before anyone came over to take our drink and food orders. We had to request our water to be filled several times and were not checked on once we received our food, which took a century to get. Two other tables who came after us received their food first which really made me mad given how long we had been waiting, but I held my tongue. My husband had the burger and I had the smoked ribs. The food was NOT fantastic for the price - it's something you'd expect at Chevy's with average prices, but not when you're paying over $15 per entree. There were bugs everywhere on the patio. My husband got bit by mosquitoes, bugs were landing in my water, and a giant black spider casually walked by our table at one point. Apparently they don't believe in tiki torches! There were bugs inside the restaurant as well, including some nasty worm-like thing in the bathroom - nasty! To sum things up, this place is overpriced, mediocre food, and VERY slow service. I don't plan on going back unless forced.

The 5 Mile house is not worth a dime. Poor food, poor service!
If it were not for their friends ratings, I'm sure they wouldn't even have a one star.

Just tried the old 5 mile house and was not dissapointed. I had the 16oz T-bone, my wife had pizza, my 13 yr old had the monster burger and my 11 had the Pene w/saucage. The only complaint was the sausage was a little spicie in the Pene. But that was his opinion. The overall meal was great, service was great and the price was what I thought it would be for a family of 4 at around $87.00. Overall it was a great visit that the whole family enjoyed.

Recently had a great dinner at the old 5 mile house restaurant & bar. The prices were very reasonable (pastas start at 9.99) and the food was outstanding. They have a fun eclectic menu of "roadhouse food from around the world". I happen to be a pizza fanatic and their pizza was right up there with the best I have had anywhere. I had the chicken rosemary pizza which was excellent. My wife had the Piadine which is a baked pizza dough topped with fresh arugula salad, shaved red onions and grilled skirt steak and crumbled blue cheese. it was a great combo of crusty pizza crust, cool arugula & warm skirt steak - the flavors all came together.

Our friends had the Cioppino which they slurped up before I could get some, but they raved about it. The wine list had a lot of unfamiliar selections from around the world, but the server called over the owner who brought us some samples and we found a great deal on a spanish wine that was delish.

The live music made for an exciting atmosphere in the old west stagecoach stop.

When we found out that the desserts and ice cream were home made we shared the chocolate cherry pot pie thing and it was amazing. Really the best dinner we've had out in a long time. And all around a super value. This place is so understated. It ain't no hoydy toydy place - just down to earth good food. Bravo!

I recently went to the 5 mile house and was very disappointed with the food and the service. The prices are outragious for the food you were getting. The wait staff was unfriendly and almost seemed fake. The drinks were good but way over priced. Not to mention i had to wait 30mins for service at the bar and when they came back helped others that were already with drinks. Great building, but would not go back.

I just returned from a few glorious days in Nevada city. We had a wonderful trip and alot of that was due to the fantastic 5 mile house. We stayed very nearby at Harmony Ridge Lodge(also great) and were pleased to find that the 5 mile house was open for both lunch and dinner. We had lunch on Wed afternoon Pizza crust with arugula, marinated skirt steak salad! It was so good ,that after a jaunt thru victorian christmas, we came back for dinner and bluegrass. We had a fantastic dinner along with the pleasure fo listening to a great local trio, in a wonderful old building. We ended up closing the place with the owner, Robert, and his employees, drinking one too any large martinis-the beauty of it was that we just had to walk down the next driveway to our home away from home. Thanks to all! A great visit-we will be back.

We stopped in to check out the old 5 mile house under its new ownership and were delighted. Their menu of roadhouse food from around the world was exciting because there were choices from all over the world, while the standard American roadhouse classics were there as well. I had the Argentine skirt steak with Chimichurri sauce - outstanding - the Belgian Bistro fries reminded me of my time in Europe. My wife had the Fennel Roast pork which was melt in your mouth awesome. My friend had the Smoked baby back ribs - he's from the south - and he loved the spicy smokey flavor and the fact that they were not boiled in water the way most places do them. His wife (a vegetarian) had lots to choose from, but settled on the Spanikopita, which she enjoyed too. All in all, a great time - and the prices are very fair. Next time we will try their mussels which they serve up on tuesdays with live jazz. The old five mile house is our new fave place because we can have fun cocktails and each get a meal we like. Now that they are open for lunch, we may just go hiking or ride our bikes on the Pioneer trail across the road and grab a panini and a beer afterwards.

I have to agree with Tasha P.'s review, the previous owner's didn't get it right. We live in the area and had been waiting for the new owners to reopen the 5 Mile House. The wait was worth it. We visited in early Nov. 2009 after they had been open a week or so. The new owners got it right! The menu is just the right mix of roadhouse offerings. There is something for everyone from steaks and chops to salads, burgers and pizza. We opted for a burger and pizza and were delighted with the food. Our food server was pleasant, attentive and efficient. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for the mouth-watering sounding desserts. One suggestion: we hope the new owners will add an imported light calorie beer, such as Amstel Light, to their bar offerings. Aside from the good meals and service, the environment is appropriately casual and welcoming. We are heading back this weekend to try their other offerings.

I used to live close to the restaurant, So I thought I would support it, and it is owned by a local guy. The service was not great, and the food was not worth the price. Tried it a couple of times thinking it was a fluke. It wasn't.
