As a student at Cal State Long Beach, having a fitness gym on campus is really convenient, but it isn't the greatest gym I've been to. There is some good equipment there but the size of the gym itself, all parts and areas included, is really small. If it gets too busy, one might find that it's hard to find a comfortable "work out" environment. And it does get busy quite often which I found irritating. The worst thing about this gym is that the membership fees are overpriced. Regular membership is at a disconcerting $40 a month while student membership, which still isn't worth it, is $32 a month. Convenience wise, at least for students, it is a good gym but in every other aspect it really isn't great at all. You can definitely find another gym that is bigger, better and a lot cheaper.

Frog's is a good blend of hard bodies pumping iron and seniors walking on treadmils--just enough to keep you motivated without being embarassed. They have great cardio machines (Nordic Track, stairmaster, eliptical, rowing machines, bikes, and treadmills). The machines have individual, built-in TV's and CD players--I just love them. They also have resistence machines, free weights, etc. I havn't ever taken a class but they seem to be popular and are offered at reasonable times. The sign up is EASY and they don't hassle you like some of the bigger places do. There are a fair number of CSULB students but they are not the majority of gym goers as far as I can tell.
PROS: Great cardio machines, convenient , mixed fitness levels and age,
CONS: no sauna, locker rooms are sparce, close at 8 on sunday, some crowding
