Although Harris Ranch is a California restaurant, all you need is a Ten-Gallon hat, which you can buy in the gift shop, to think you are at a Texas barbecues. The steaks are wonderful, the atmosphere authentic, and the service friendly, Harris Ranch is actually a ranch and their beef is raised in the rolling hills north of the premises. The place is in actuality, a resort with its own 5 star hotel, gardens, pools and golf course. Oh yeah, the food is great.

I always stop here on the way to northern california. The steak is amazing and they even have their own butcher on site. I would recommend any beef plate but they also offer other great entrees.

I just went to a retirement party at Harris Ranch Restaurant and it was one of the greatest meals that I had. The bill was pretty big, but with the portions that we got it was very worth it. The staff was great and very friendly. The restaurant is very clean too!

While not the most convenient location (100 miles north of Bakerfield on I-5), every other aspect of this place is great! Several different restaurants reside here offering the same high quality beef. The hotel on property looks nice, however I did not stay there. There is ample parking for cars, RVs, and big rigs. They even offer a 2,800 ft runway for people who wish to fly in. The landscaping is lush and beautiful. Inside they offer some of the best steaks you can sink your teeth in. I had a 20 oz. Ribeye which was the best steak I've ever had. They raise their own cattle and you can purchase beef to go.

Pros: Excellent steaks, great sides, good service

Cons: too far away

Harris Ranch is right between Los Angeles and San Francisco or Sacramento, depending on your choice of destinations. Which makes it an ideal spot for a mid-drive stretch. There is a gas station (which is rather pricey, but when you need to fill up price doesnt make much of a difference) and a separate rest station apart from the main Harris Ranch building. There is a restaurant that serves good meals, a gift shop with knick-knacks and memorabilia, and clean restrooms all located within the same building. There is also an inn, so if you find yourself needing a place to stay, this is a safe place to be. There are currently 89 rooms, although there is talk of adding on more. And the rooms are tax free according to their web page. Over all, this is a good place to stop, stretch and grab a bite to eat.
