I found an earwig in the sprig of green onions I bought. Thing was .25 so not like it'd be up for bat for a refund, plus with the mentioning of how they give a hard time for refunds I don't feel that I'd have much luck with filing a complaint. Instead, just want people to consider the fact that my bugged green onions was found in the open in the produce section. Still want to give it a shot?

Koreanna in Rancho Cordova is cleaner than many Asian markets in San Francisco or Hawaii. I bought a lot of stuff, checked all expiration dates in the Rancho Location and they were current. Good assortment, but if you are looking for a special ingredient, look it up on Wikipedia or another info site, as the names from country to county in Asia vary. That way the clerk will be able to help you, especially if you find the Chinese or Korean word for the exotic ingredient. There were some minor language difficulties with communication, but overall, the staff was plentiful enough, friendly, helpful and took interest in my cooking needs, even offering to see if they could get special order items from their wholesalers.

I would say that fish is harder to assess for quality than in many markets, because a lot of it is not behind glass to buffer you from the odor of the fish juices that drip into the ice below. Thus giving the fish you want to buy a good sniff to make sure it doesn't have a fishy smell is next to impossible because of the overall odor in the atmosphere near the fish case.

I wish they had fresh red thai chilies, lotus leaves and ti leaves. It would also be nice if they had some Hawaiian food. They had many types of nori (seaweed for wrapping sushi rolls), which is great, because the only brand sold at the conventional supermarkets like Safeway, Food4Less, Belaire are so tough and chewy it ruins the sushi.

Don't pay any attention to the former reviews. I nearly did, and would have deprived myself of an opportunity to get great ingredients. Just like at Safeway or any other store, check expiration dates. And I don't think Koreanna will disappoint you, unless you are expecting it to be as slick in appearance as a chic supermarket.

So, Clare, what was the resolution? Did you report them to BBB?

My experience with return was not easy, but possible: it was a jar with cabbage which was close to expiration date. I bought 2, and figured out I won't finish the second jar by the time of it's exp. date. I took it back, they really checked that the jar was never open and in selling condition, and after that they gave me the "store credit", which I spent on 5 lb. or fresh cucumbers for $2.99! So, that was great, and I didn't mind the store credit.

* * *

P.S. But Clare is right: it is hard in Koreana Plaza to initiate the return, and, speaking on my own experience, they do give people a hard time about it.

Other then that - the store has a HUGE variety of seafood, frozen fish, fresh produce, meat, etc. And prices are sometimes amazing.

I am a regular customer of theirs because I work closely there. Recently I bought a bag of lotus seeds at Koreana Plaza. When I came home and opened it with scissors, I noticed a hole on the bag. It looked like bitten by some sort of animal because the shape of the hole was irregular. Of course I was not going to eat the food, so I took it back for an exhange. When I talked the cashier, she didn't think I an do the exchange. But she told me to talk to the owner. When I showed the hole to the owner, he told me" you opened it, no exhange!" I couldn't believe my ears because clearly it was not my fault. If the merhandise wasn't bitten by a rat, I wouldn't come back to exchange. So I asked him" can you eat something bitten by an animal?" and he told me again "You opened it!". I told him "Okay, then I will report this to BBB". He told me "go ahead" and tried to take away my bag of lotus seeds. I took it back and told him" No, I will keep it as evidence." He said " get out!" I told him "Your store will go down with the way you treat your customers!" before I stepped out.

This is the worst customer service I had, if possible, I would not give any star for rating. It's not about money, only $3, but principle. I will not return to his store, furthermore, I want to let more people be aware how terrible their service is. As I said to the owner " Your store will go down with the way you treat your customers"!

I just purchased hand roll today and it had rocks which is not good. They must focus on quality of food we buy. I wasn't sure if they had their food safety results by the door.

This was a great Korean/Asian market that opened up. Very large, with a lot of products to choose from. However, the quality of the goods have decreased. Kimchee is good though, and the small side restaurant they have also makes some tasty Korean dishes.
