I've been eating at the Katelli Deli for over 14 years. With very few exceptions my friends, family, and I have always loved the food and the service.

Yes, if you want chicken in the matzo ball soup, you have to add that to your order.

The portions are large, food always fresh, great meats, and the bakery is fantastic. I have had many of their delicious desserts from the bakery, both single serving and cakes. A custom cake that was ordered for my birthday was fantastic and I was extremely grateful my friends bought it there...yummmm, chocolate!

Good place for large groups, just call in advance to let them know if you can.

Pros: Their all-in-the-bowl soup is fantastic and enough for two!

Cons: Long waits on Sunday mornings

Ordered chicken soup with matzo ball. Got chicken broth with a large but tastless matzo ball, a fair bit of noodles also lacking flavor and not a shred of chicken in the bowl.

Boyfriend ordered the carrot cake, a generous portion, but very dense and overly sweet rather than tasty.

Overall very disappointing.

I love the borscht at Katella Deli -- IT IS EXCELLENT! My husband loves the matzo ball soup with the chicken bits. The sandwiches are LARGE and they do not skimp on portions! The chopped liver is to die for. Must try! This is a fabulous deli!

MrsWiseman: "2 cents plain" is an antiquated expression. I'll be that most people
under 65 have no idea what that is.

My mom always takes my grandma to the Katella Deli. It's always packed, noisy, and full of screaming little kids and upset old people. The food is just alright. If you tell them it's someone's birthday they'll give them a whole chocolate cake. That part is pretty cool.

I loved Kaplans deli on Harbor Blvd. but they closed down and now I will drive all the way to Los Alamitos to eat at the Katella Deli. Always friendly, good deli food. You have no room for dessert!

This is a large deli restaurant with a full bakery are both are delicious. The restaurant usually has a good crowd and always has a daily soup special. I've had several different items off the menu and everything has always been very good. The prices are reasonable.

This is a great restaurant/deli for some good 'ol home-cooking meals! Wow - their soups - tortilla and chicken noodle - are incredible. The tostada salad and cobb salad are very good as well. They have cocktails and wine, and of course, beer. Service is good and consistent. They also have great cookies and pies and all kinds of wonderful desserts!

Katella Deli has a wide assortment of foods. The sandwiches are really good. Atmosphere is casual dining and prices are reasonable. Is clean and portion sizes are large. The best part is the bakery, make sure to pick something sweet up on the way out.

I love this place. has got to be one of my all time favorites. The food is so so good. the atmosphere is very comfortable, exactly like any family restaurant, but the food is so much better than any place else. And you must not leave with out getting something from their bakery. Really. Their backed goods unbelievable. You better not miss out on tasting food better than you've ever had.

My family has been going to the Katella Deli for years. You can't beat their matza ball soup and fresh bread. There meats are the best--lean and fresh. The variety of sandwiches offered guarantees something for everyone.

This place leaves a lot to be desired, the servers handle the money, food is over priced. All the drinks are over priced coffee is of poor quality and $2.59 or so may have gone up....If you order chicken soup THE CHICKEN IS EXTRA Sometimes the beef on the french dip is nasty you don't know what your going to get. The servers are treated like SLA VES. The bakery is not that good only select things are consistently good.
THE PLACE IS GENERALLY DIRTY DUSTY THE LIGHTS ARE LOW FOR THIS REASON IN MY OPINION
The corn beef and cabbage is great you will like it. NO SOURDOUGH BREAD if the place isn't kosher whats the big deal have had for the most part good service better than average food, but not consistent.
I realize that all restaurant's have the Spanish folks working there, but they need to not have long winded conversations in there native tongue. I know what they are saying and some of it is not nice towards the customers. The cooks need more supervision to insure QUALITY. They don't know things like well done, medium hold the this and that. If you want something different on your order GOOD LUCK .

I ordered fried chicken to go. The hostess never asked about a break selection so I had to exchange upon pick up. I requested a cup of coffee to go and to my surprise it was a small cup, poor quality and $2.59. When I commented the hostess indicated a lot of complaints regarding the beverage charge. Upon eating our meal I found that a majority of the chicken was coating!!! Great big thick fried coating, yuck. The coleslaw was very heavy in vinegar. I picked up pasty (lemon cake and eclair). The cake was just like inexpensive cake from the market (cheap market) and I do not know about the eclair but it looked like the same quality. My mother is in the hospital and I was delivering so I did not have time to go elsewhere, but I will not be back.

Cons: poor quality-priced too high for some items

Went on 11/3/07 for breakfast. Food great, service great, Bakery to die for (have to try their garlic-parmesan
BAGEL CHIPS- highly addicting) the prices are reasonable (usually)
BUT, $2.50 FOR A PLAIN CUP OF COFFEE IS RIICULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!! we'll go there again but, you can bet I
won't have anything but water to drink until they take care of this abomination or serve a decent quality
coffee.

I live in Atlanta and was visiting the West Coast for my father's birthday. We went to the Katella Deli to pick up his birthday cake and decided to stay for dinner. The menu was large and varied. The clientale was mostly older and seemed to be enjoying their food. I ordered the chopped liver. While it wasn't piled high like NYC Deli's, it was quite tasty. I was disappointed that I could not order it on sourdough bread though. I would love to go back and try some other items that looked/ sounded good.

I was looking forward to trying something new and was so disappointed with my unedible Monte Cristo. It looked like plastic and tasted like cardboard. I complained to the waittress that I didn't think I could eat it. I couldn't make up my mind, so my date suggested that I order a French Dip that he could share with me because he didn't like his roast beef sandwich. She happily brought me a French Dip that was moist and delicious! The sandwich was delivered with french fries that were old and overcooked. I complained again, and the waittress brought me a fresh serving of delicious fries. Afterwards, we visited the bakery and picked out a delicious carrot cake, fresh rye break, and a flakey blueberry danish. Overall it was a below-average visit. I wish that the owners would review their menu items for quality.

Drove 20 Minutes to Katella Deli in search of some Jewish Penicilin. Sadly, Katella sorely dissapoints. That the waitress didn't know what a two-cents plain is, that they serve corn bread with matzo ball soup, that I've had better matzo ball from a jar (OK, it was clearly the same matzo ball), that lox and eggs is served with potaotes "O'brien," all reasons that Katella misses the mark so greatly. Even the bakery, my last hope for the place, serves a sad excuse for rugelach. Perhaps they spent too much time on the jelly donuts and "fresh baked" coconut cream pie. It's not that I wouldn't reccomend Katella deli. It's fine-ish if you just want run of the mill diner food. But, if you are looking for deli food with any authenticity, just head up to the valley.

My family goes there everytime we have to celebrate a birthday or we have family coming into town. It is one of the best places to get comfort food when you are down, to have a good time and create good memories with great food around you.

I love the restaurant and everyone I take there loves it too.

The matza soup will re-grow a dismembered llimb...it is that good. Mashed potatoes must have God's blessing, they are to die for. Knish is very good. Service is hurried, but efficient. Try it, you'll like it...tee hee.

Three cheers for their extensive bakery selections! Our family takes their bagel chips home-- a great choice for a sweet tooth= cinnamon or for salty= parmesean cheese. I personally have enjoyed all the chocolate confections I have tried especially the chocolate mousse cups. Delish! Take one to go!

Going to Katella Deli for our family is a delightful experience. We love to go for lunch and order a plate of pickles to nibble on before our food arrives. There is a huge variety of food to choose from. No visit is complete without stopping at the bakery counter to oogle all the incredibly decadent pastries and to also get a loaf of fresh rye bread to take home (ok, we also purchase several of the decadent pastries to take home also!).

For many years, I have bought baked goods from Katella Deli and have never been disappointed. They breads are something to give New York Jewish delis something for their money, as they are fresh, baked on the premises and full of flavor. My favorites are challah and rye. I have yet to find another Jewish bakery that bakes and serves breads that are comparable to what is found at Katella Deli.
Aside from the baked goods being super, their French Dip sandwiches are mouth watering.

Katella Deli is that rare type of resturaunt with a loyal following. Located in Los Alamitos, across from the Los Alamitos Race Course, they specialize in the Kosher Deli-style of food that is so difficult to find in Southern California. In addition to a resturant that serves items such as mile high turkey on rye with thousand island dressing and noodle kugle, they also have a bakery stuffed to bursting with freshly baked breads, cakes, pies and even black and white cookies (New Yorkers take note!). And the pickles they serve with meals are to die for!
