Reviews for Banana Island

Ratings_icons delish

My expectations were exceeded. A avid restaurant goer since age 9 I know what kind of restaurants I like and what to look for. Some people don't like crowds, but don't discount the restaurant for them! Crowds means the place must be good for some reason right? And Banana Island was definitely crowded. We had to wait twenty minutes for our party of 8 but it was well worth it. The food comes out FAST, so be ready. Good, good, good! It's not too salty or gloopy (full of corn starch) like many asian cuisine restaurants' food can be. The desserts were ethereal! Ask about a mountain shaped cone of shaved ice and syrups - to die for. The, what's it called....roti? with whipped cream and strawberries was also delish.

The place is also beautiful, clean, and for every demographic.

Parking was easy to find too...that is, if you don't mind a little five minute walk!
Definitely call before going to reserve a spot though, as I said, it's crowded.

Ratings_icons An island of its own.

This restaurant located within the plaza, is a very good place to take your family and dine with a variety of Asian style dishes. The place has a certain mood to it, and a very friendly staff. The place is usually quite full, but it's worth the wait to be seated, especially for the curry dishes. Everything doesn't seem rushed, and just feels like a place you can relax and dine.

Ratings_icons Nice mix of many cuisines

Just by looking at the menu you can see that this place is a fusion of Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, and Thai cuisines. The roti is excellent and you can see it made right in front of your eyes. They have Chinese-style noodle soups and chow fun, Thai/Indian curries, and tons of dishes with the shrimp-paste sauce. Try the ong-choy with the shrimp-paste sauce, it's excellent.
Desserts/drinks: soy bean milk with grass jelly.

PROS: lots of different types of food
CONS: long wait

I'm probably biased because I've had such great food in both Malaysia and Singapore, so it's hard to compare. But still, Banana Island does a decent job. They have authentic roti prata with curry sauce, where the chef tosses the dough on the grill as they do in Asia. I also like their coconut prawns and pineapple rice, but didn't care much for their version of beef or lamb rendang. Decor is a little kitschy.

Ratings_icons gotta love their roti

I usually start my order w/ roti, yum! I enjoy everything in the menu that has the malaysian style sauce with them (sauteed shrimp paste). The restaurant is always crowded but we never had to wait longer than 5 mins to get sitted. Make sure you leave a little room for desserts.

Banana Island is a Malaysian-style cuisine with a friendly atmosphere. It has great food for those who love spicy food. Every dish you order tastes great and has the right amount of spiciness to it. The best part of Banana Island is the food and the incredible pricing. It is very affordable and just one dish can make you full. The only bad thing about the restaurant are the bad breath mints they give you after your meal, they taste very bad. However, overall, Banana Island has the best Malaysian food you'll ever eat.
