If you don't want to pay for overpriced drinks in a club, it's always a great idea to head to Star Bar first! I went here for the first time on my 21st birthday, and I heard about how they have Filipino "aunties" working at the bar. It's probably as divey as dive bars get.. a little sketchy, the booths are ripped and duct-taped, and the bathrooms are horrible. But for cheap alcohol, you're probably too drunk to care.

This is a great place to get your drink on before moving on to one of those really expensive clubs at the Gaslamp. This place is ideal to meet up with friends before heading out.

The Star Bar is a great dive bar located in the Gas Lamp Quarter in down town San Diego, it houses a large area with fair prices on it's drinks. Good atmosphere.

This bar is a major dive. They serve really great drinks at a reasonable price for being in the downtown area. I come here for drinks before going to other more expensive bars.

Funny thing is I found this bar on accident while I was vacationing! I met a local and we literally stumbled upon this place! Drinks on the cheap, people watching (and let me tell you, there is a lot to see), and just overall good times! I have come to realize that it's not always where you're at that makes the difference, it's the company you keep! I love this bar for the good memories!
Walked in after paying a cover and they refused to serve us because the bartender thought my buddy was drunk. I understand that. They then offered us our cover back which was cool, only to turn around and say no once we were outside. NOT COOL!!! i don't recommend this place to anybody unless you enjoy having people take advantage of you.
