I recently had to take our 19 year old cat to be put to sleep due to cancerous growths on her face. The folks at the SPCA were very helpful, but more than that she was allowed to go with dignity and for that I will be forever grateful.

Our family used to pick our dog up here when I was a little and he would get out. We would always go look at the other animals that they have there.

Funny title but oh so true. Our family has been going to San Francisco SPCA for over 5 years. The Staff is excellent in caring for our 5 year Japanese Akita. He is always greeted by his name and that always amazes me because they care for thousands of animals and yet always remembers our dog each and everytime he comes in. Their prices are always cheaper than anywhere else that I have been. You can make a same day appointment if it's urgent. If you are not sure how urgent it is you can bring your dog in and a Technician will come to the lobby and look at the animal and will make a decision if the animal should be seen right away or can wait for an appointment. WOW.. i love this place and you will too.

PROS: Excellent Service. The Staff is wonderful. And it is very affordable
CONS: none

Great service. Went to get my dog (Oreo) neutered and they did a quick job. They were very nice and treated me and my pet great. Oreo unfortunately pasted away and we brought him to SPCA to have him burried. Great staff. A+.

I visited the SF SPCA not long ago, and what an experience! I was already forewarned that this shelter would be unlike any other, but I was still in awe as I walked around. If I do adopt a cat in the near future, I would definitely come here first! From what I hear, this is a no-kill shelter. Thankfully, it receives enough money from generous people in order to run the way it does. It seems like every cat had its own mini-condo. They even have their own TVs to watch Catnip TV! You can tell that the animals here are treated with so much care and love. It would be so wonderful if every shelter were like this one! Even if you are not looking to adopt, you should definitely take a trip here! Super clean, wonderful staff and volunteers - very impressive!

PROS: Clean, modern, friendly staff, WONDERFUL!
CONS: None that I can think of!

I went here with my best friend when he wanted to adopt a dog. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean and orderly. We found a great dog for him (Akita mix) and two years later, she's still a great dog. The SPCA also offers dog behavior classes at good rates.

Caring staff, lots of kind volunteers, and tons of adorable cats and dogs. I've adopted several cats from here and wouldn't go elsewhere. Why go anywhere else?

The SPCA was amazing, I was so impressed with their facility, and they treat the animals there with the best care. The brochures and check lists they gave me with my new tabby were really helpful (and written in a fun to read way). And the little things like a free vet visit and 10% off coupon for my choice of vet and pet store made bringing my little friend home all the easier.

We took our kitten to get fixed and it was very inexpensive. $40 for neuter and $25 for a micro chip! The only down side was that we could not check on him during the 8 hour period that they held him at the clinic.\nThe counter staff was horrible. The woman on the phone who also check out cat in was so rude I felt less than trusting to leave my beloved animal there.

Message from San Francisco SPCA Veterinary Hospital

The Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center is the home of the SF SPCA’s veterinary services. It includes our nonprofit, full-service Veterinary Hospital, Spay/Neuter Clinic, Feral Fix Program and Shelter Medicine Program. For years, our experienced veterinarians have provided high-quality care to guardians who can afford veterinary services, those that need financial assistance, and free care for homeless animals or pets of homeless people. This translates into approximately $1.5 million in free or discounted veterinary care each year, and the Leanne Roberts Center is dramatically increasing the number of animals we are able to serve — including doubling our spay/neuter capacity. The Leanne Roberts Center is being funded entirely by private donors, whose contributions provide a true gift to all of our city’s animals — and to the people who love them.
