Ratings_icons Newbie Shooter Review

J T.

I have been going there for about 8 months now. My experience with the 'range' is always good. I have made 3 firearms purchases this year and none have been from them (I have tried each time to give them a shot at my business). Previous poster mentions "crappy XD", sorry, that is also snobbish.. I am unbiased and made purchases of 2 handguns that people hate for some reason, (XD40 is one of them). 1000+ rounds in my 1st weapon with no issues and as of tonight 500+ in the XD, Never experienced a mis-fire yet in my short shooting career. Both weapons were easy to Qualify 30 of 30 for a CCW. I have had a bad vibe everytime I consider buying from them however. So again, Nice Range, Nice Classes, High prices on everything else. With my own equipment and ammo, $10 range fee, everytime.

Overall a good experience, Range is clean, air conditioned and set up nicely. The staff was helpful and polite until I looked at buying a pistol.
Then the 2 kids helping be became very snobbish. They even told me they did not stock h&K or sigs because they are crappy and overated. Then tried to sell me a crappy xd which I rented on their advice and it kept jamming. They told me I didnt know how to shoot even I showed them my used target that would prove otherwise. Upon googling the xd it has a lot of problems with feeding and needing to be sent back to the factory.
They also had very negative things to say about 2 other local gun vendors, which is always a no-no.

Bottom line is go there to shoot, not for advice or purchasing a pistol.

Ratings_icons great range, bad service

Joe T.

The range at Safer Arms is probably the best in Butte County, and one of the best indoor ranges I've ever been to. However, if you're planning on buying a gun, DO NOT GO TO SAFER ARMS!!! They know a lot about guns, sure, but they are SNOBS about them too. They will flat out tell you that if they don't carry it, it's not worth having...and they don't have a good selection (or good, competitive prices). I stood at the counter waiting to be helped for 20 min while older people or people who looked like they were about to start the revolution walked right in and got service immediately. When I did get help the guy hardly looked at me when talking to me, kept walking to the other side of the counter to see if someone else needed help, and tried to tell me "You'll never find that gun for under $1000.00 anywhere in the US". And he fell short of calling me a liar when I told him I found several of the gun I was looking for online for under $300.00, and a few other gun shops in town had quoted me prices near $250.00! Basically these guys are going to try to get you to buy expensive guns just because they are expensive, and if you are looking for something affordable and reliable, they will lie to you and say that doesn't exist or just not take you serious. Also, be careful when asking about range prices because I have talked to several people who all paid different prices. Sometimes they'll trick you into buying THEIR ammo to use at the range saying you HAVE to use theirs, you can't bring your own. Other times you HAVE to use their hearing protection or eye protection, or you HAVE to use their targets, all of which are over priced. The real truth is that you only have to use their ammo if you are renting their gun. That's it. You don't HAVE to buy anything else if you bring your own. Be careful when dealing with these guys, they've got your money in mind, not your safety.

Ratings_icons Safer Arms West Coasts #1 indoor range!!

Aaron M.

I bought my first hand gun there in 1990!! I've shot in their indoor range since I was a Reserve Police Officer for Chico. Since then I've made several gun & ammo purchases. Best customer service and nicest indoor range I've been in!! They know and understand the laws and will fit you to the perfect firearm.

Ratings_icons Rip Off!!!

Do not go there! The employees were rude and snippy. My gun jammed, it didn't fit right and the employees didn't care. I even called ahead of time to find out how much it would run me. I was told somewhere around $20 a person. He "forgot" to mention however that there was an entrance fee, and a fee for safety goggles and another for ear protection, and the price of the ammo was $15 a box not the quoted $3!!! All and all it came out to be $40 A PERSON. DO NOT GO THERE! Spread the word.

Ratings_icons Indoor Gun Range and Classes

M. W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 616

This is a nice indoor range facility. They have a moderate selection of guns and gun accessories and some hunting supplies. Most of my experience with them has been with their classes though. They have good instructors who go through everything with you and really tailor classes to the needs of the individuals in the class. They do first time and renewal concealed carry classes and also offer safety classes. If you sign up for a class you have to pay for it unless they are able to fill your spot if you end up needing to cancel or drop the class for some reason. If you are having a hard time getting in a class somewhere its worth a call or drive out to Chico because they offer classes regularly and do have cancellations now and then if you are trying to get in right away. The staff is very knowledgeable about guns and parts and are helpful.
