My mom and I stayed at the Westin in Pasadena about one month ago. I had alot of stuff in my car having driven all the way from Wiscosin and I was going to be living in California for 2 moths. The valet service was relatively cheap, about $11/day for unlimited comings and goings so we decided to get it. I brought most of the items up from the car but left quite a bit in it, because we were tired having driven a long way and the valet parking claimed it was in a locked "secured" garage. In the morning when we went to check out we discovered someone with acces to the car and the key (I.e. the valet service) had gone through the car and taken $500 worth of items. We were understandably upset, and the hotel staff referred us to the valet company to deal with the theft. They assured me their insurance would cover this, and that it was not necessary to contanct the police. We contacted the police dept. anyway, and they said to deal with the valet people because their insurance would cover it. The valet people took an itemized list of the stolen items and photographed the car, and said I should expect a check with 3-4 weeks. Well, the check never came, and after contacting the insurance company the valet deals with, apparently I couldn't get a refund because I didn't give the valet an itemized list of everything I was keeping in the car (so what..they could know exactly what was in the car BEFORE they stole it?). That makes absolutely no sense. That is what insurance is for. This has absolutely darkened the time I've spent in California, and will never stay in a Westin Hotel again, and encourage my friends and business associates to do the same. PS--I hope you NEVER have to deal with the Pasadena police department either.
Pros: It is a nice-looking and comfortable hotel, but the people who work there could care less about good paying customers.
Cons: THE VALET SERVICE EMPLOYS THIEVES
