I have a relative there now in their 80's, and receiving Hospice care. Hospice care is "Comfort Care" only. They are only required to "keep them comfortable, free of pain, and give daily oral medications, food, hygienic care, and prevent pressure sores on skin.I have found that: 1. medications are delivered on time, and with kindness. 2. response time to "nurse calls", are pretty quick. 3. meals are small, but adequate for an octogenarian, with the exception of some foods, being seasoned a bit too much. 4. the nurses are very pleasant, but sometimes are not coming round often enough to check on him/her when we are there. 5. the side of the building that he stays on, is clean and tastefully decorated. 6. toilet supplies are a bit sparse. TVs and telephones are not provided by the nursing home. you may bring them in. 7. visiting hours are from 10am to 8 pm, and children are welcome. 8. patients may go outside when they choose, for fresh air, conversation, or even a cigarette. I have noticed that many patients are wheel chair bound, yet they are allowed outside without an attendant present. 9. All in all, I find this nursing facility satisfactory to meet the needs of a patient needing hospice care, as well as those who are a bit more mobile, and able to do many things for themselves.
