Mi Lindo Peru has great Peruvian food

by Erica O. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,170

I went to Mi Lindo Peru for the first time recently after hearing a lot of praise for the restaurant. I love Peruvian food, so I was looking forward to trying it out.

I went with 3 others and we were all very pleased with our meals. The sangria was great and the service was attentive.

I had the Peruvian style fried rice with seafood, which was amazing. Unlike most restaurants, they did not skimp on the ingredients. My plate was overflowing with perfectly-cooked calamari, mussels, shrimp and clams.

I would definitely recommend Mi Lindo Peru.

Decent but a little pricy!

by Nicholas Y. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,285

I love Peruvian food, and in San Francisco, there is no better place than Mi Lindo Peru, which offer the best Peruvian food in the city. Despite it's high prices, it is worth it because the dishes are huge, and the servings can easily be shared. The overall service is awesome, and the staff are very friendly!

Peruvian

by Joanne G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 559

The atmosphere isn't as trendy as other Peruvian restaurants, but they have excellent food! Lots of great seafood dishes, as well as other traditional dishes such as lomo saltado and ceviche. I also love the free bread with salsa they serve. Another must try is their sangria. Waitstaff/owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Inca food.

by Julio G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,741

This is a great place to try traditional food from Peru. Most of the dishes are made from potato. My favorite is the ceviche. But you should try everthing because Peruvian food is the best. This place is in mission close to bart.

Great cheap peruvian place

by CSMobileUser

I love this place! I've been going here since I was young with my brother and my mom. And every time we go there they rememeber us. They are friendly and have good service. I love the food! I recommend the lomo saltado, anticuchos and chiccaron de pollo. My moms peruvian and she doesn't really cook and can't cook the typical dishes so everytime we want peruvian food we go here! Highly recommend it for good portions at a good price!

Talk about Value!

by bananacakes

Think: typical American diner. The atmosphere and decor is reminiscent of a truck stop, if there were a truck stop that served Peruvian and Spanish food. Such good portions and quality for the money. Yes, I've had better fried calamari and Spanish style beef, but never for so little! Actually, the fried calamari was better than most high end tapas bars. Next time I would probably just order take-out, because the food and prices far outshines the dreary atmosphere.

Pros: prices, portions, value

Cons: atmosphere

Sad atmosphere-Average Food

by rzemser

I ate at Linda Peru last night (the one near Chesnut) because I could not get into Mamacita's. This place was empty (not a good sign!) and we were hungry-so we settled. I wish I had gone to Pluto's next door instead.

The food was very average. I am not saying it was BAD, just average. Homemade food slapped on a plate, put in front of you. There was lots of white rice and bread and other uninteresting fillers. The sangria was good (I will give them that) but my fried fish was greasy and the oil tasted old. The fish also came SANS any sauce, it needed sauce. My dining partner had the lamb with a green sauce and he loved it-but he is Irish so anything lamb is good for him, and being from Ireland he is not as picky about his food. (no offense to Irish cuisine, but he is old school Irish and was forced to eat bad food in the boarding schools in the 60's in Ireland-so for him, anything is usually pretty good!)

I thought the fried yucca was pretty good, although nothing special. The yelow dipping sauce that it came with helped save the dish from being a total bore.

The bill was over 100 bucks for three of us, not worth it at all! Very mediocre food, overpriced-no ambiance, and I won't go there again. Go to Pluto's instead.

Pros: The place was empty and we were hungry, the sangria was pretty good.

Cons: The food was uninteresting, poorly prepared and was not worth the money.

Delicious chicken and rice!

by ghom30

We recently went here on a whim, and it was delicious. Great friendly service, nothing fancy inside but the food was fresh, the chicken and rice with corn were tasty and the kebab apps were tasty! A good place for big families and authentic peruvian.

Sangrias beat Cha Cha Cha.. HANDS DOWN!

by kjoyiss

I've spent some time in Spain. And what I drank mostly when I was there was the sangria.

When I go to Mi Lindo.. it reminds me of Spain. The sangria is exactly how it was when I was back in Spain. My favorite dish is the beef steak ala pobre. its a pan fried steak with veggies and a fried banana. Fried banana sounds weird? I thought so at first, but when you put the sweetness of the banana, mix it with the spicyness of the salsa, and the tenderness of the beef.. OH IT IS HEAVEN!

My boyfriend even got jealous of the steak because I was soo into it, I wasn't paying attention to him anymore! =P

Pros: the best beef steak ala pobre and SANGRIA

Cons: parking.

Some of the best Peruvian food I've ever had

by aaront31

We showed up at this establishment, having heard a last minute recommendation from a friend of a firend, on a Saturday night with no reservation and a group of 6 people. I was honestly expecting to be standing outside for a good two hours, but instead the hostess went out of her way to move people around at the back bar that overlooks the open kitchen and got us seated immediately. While not ideal for having an intimate conversation with everyone in your group, I was impressed with the level of service right off the bat. The food, on the other hand, made the service pale in comparison. Everyything that our group had was absolutely superb! I would highly recommend the calamari and any of their pasta or seafood dishes. The cooking is all done right there in front of you, open air style, so you see the fresh ingredients getting thrown into your pan and cooked while you watch. Excellent food, excellent service.

Pros: Great service, EXCELLENT food

Cons: Slightly pricy and can get crowded fast on the weekends

best peruvian in SF, hands down !

by joelbeezie

Only a 9.0 !! The best peruvian food spot in SF only gets a 9.0 ! It deserves a 9.9, not a 10 only because the parking around the Mission district can be really tough. Small quaint spot in the Mission serves up some of the best food you can anywhere. Get a pitcher of Sangria, start with some calamari, order the Seafood spagehetti and the Lomo saltado and at the end of the night you will not only be full but amazed at the quality and delicious taste of the food. i cant say enough about this place !! Staff is nice and friendly, although during packed nights you may get a lil ignored as it does get hectic. Dont walk but run to Mi Lindu Peru Soon !!

Pros: Great food for good price

Cons: Parking

Loved the service in this place!

by ykeal

The place is small but the dishes are huge and delicious...I went with my friends last saturday and we tried the "Ceviche de Pescado"...I'd highly recommend you that dish!!!This place can get busy on weekends and requieres a little patience but the service is overall very good and the waitress are very friendly, so don't believe the postings about bad service...

Pros: Friendly Service, Excellent appetizers

Cons: Parking

Must be missing something...

by LV

To tell you the truth, I cannot find any redeeming qualities about this restaurant. After reading tons of positive reviews, we decided to see what the locals deemed as a "hidden gem" of peruvian cuisine...well, unless we went to the wrong place altogether, this place was awful. There is NO ambience, the cooking is homemade but in a bad, cheap way and the service was nice but truly lacking any professionalism & courtesy. Definintely do not recommend if you are interested in good food and nice atmosphere.

Pros: Large portions

Cons: crowded, depressing atmosphere, cheap food

Both locations are wonderful!!

by mikeywuuuuuu

I tried the Scott Street location first and I saw they had another location on Mission. plaBoth ces are great. Mission is busier and I had to wait for a table, but well worth it. We didn't have to wait for a table at Scott, I'm assuming because it's new and everyone doesn't know about it yet. Ambience and service was better at Scott though, but not really any complaints. If you're just hungry, both places are great. Lomo Saltado is the way to go. If you're on a date, I suggest the Scott Street location. It's a bit more on the romantic side.

Pros: Value

Cons: Parking

The best in SF

by sarai415

This is hands now my favorite restaurant in all of San Francisco! I have been going here for years - there is NOTHING this restaurant serves that I wouldn't recommend. My personal favorite - the Pescado Saltado or the Jalea. I have been here numerous times with different people and everytime it's the same reaction. Everyone says the food is absolutely delicious and very moderately priced.

great for the price

by tankz

My friends an I went there after visiting some neighborhood bars and was very surprised with the food. I thought it was great. The ceviche was tangy, full of flavor, not over tasting. Though many reviews have said that the food was too salty, i did not find my dish salty at all. I ordered the chicken dish with saffron. I would recommend this restaurant and will take my friend from hawaii here when she comes to visit.

Pros: portion size, inexpensive, gather with friends

Cons: , parking

SALTY!

by sfbae

Granted I probably dont douse my food with salt as alot of people out there but I felt that everything I had ordered on the menu were overwhelmed with salt. I drank so much water I didnt get to eat much. I dont think I would be going back. The postive things about this place is the many choices on the menu and friendly prices. I have to agree with someone else who reviewed this place that if the food was not overly salty than it would probably be bland....

Pros: Portions, Price

Cons: Food is overly salty, Service can be a slow, Did I mention salty?

Viva Mi Lindo Peru

by aziomatic

The food is as phenomenal as the ambiance of this family run establishment is unpretentious. Any gastronomist will realize that this Mission eatery repeatedly delivers consistent titilation, dish after dish. The bistec a la pobre is no doubt the best steak I've eaten under 20 dollars (it's 13.95). The grilled boned chicken (8.95) is astounding, with the smokey tenderness of jerked chicken grilled on Nigril's streets. Both dishes are charcoal grilled.

Viva Mi Lindo Peru, may you grace our streets with your sweet scents and quality foods.

Pros: family run, charcoal grilled, complimentary salsa

Cons: , they don't deliver

good food, good service

by tgurantz

I've been coming here for probably 3 or 4 years. They make excellent Paella, Lomo Saltado, etc. And both the Cusquena Malta (dark, sweet beer) and the purple corn drink (name eluding) rock. Never had a bad meal here, although some dishes are less flavorful than others, e.g. the Arroz Con Pollo requires the use of the salsa to spicen it up. The portions are huge, so if you wish to avoid mounds of leftovers, order less plates than people to share family-style. Did I mention the service? Carlos, as well as all the employees there, are pure gentlemen. (I walk there, so I ain't gonna complain about the parking, car-driving suckas!)

If you come with a large party, make sure its a weekday, otherwise make reservations if possible.

(p.s. they serve the same great huge portions for lunch, but for cheaper!)

Pros: Huge Portions, Good Drinks

Cons: Crowded on Weekends
