Manhattan Pizza

by Erika W.

This place is in a great location with a lot of great shopping near by. The food is ok not the best pizza I have had but not the worst. It has a relaxed atmosphere so if you are in a hurry it's not the place to go. I would recommend it if you want a quick slice!

The worst pizza and service in the South Bay.

by Anonymous

If you love nasty cold pizza, if you yearn for horrible atmosphere, if you absolutely need terrible service, order food from Manhattan Beach Pizzeria.

After two mediocre experiences at this place, I called one afternoon to order two pizzas for take out. Little did I know I was in for the biggest joke of an experience I've ever had. Here's what happened:

"Hello, Manhattan Pizza"
"Hi, can I place an order for take out?"
"No, you have to come in to order."
"I have to come in to give you my order?"
"Yeah, that's what my owner said today."
"But, I'm talking to you right now over the phone, couldn't I just give you my order and then come pick it up?"
"Hold on, let me get the owner."
(muffled talking)
"Yeah"
"Hello? Can I place an order for take out?"
"No, you have to come in to order"
"Can't I just give you the order since we're talking right now?"
CLICK (the owner hanging up)

I've never experienced such a mind boggling business decision in action. Great life decision.

The Bottom Line: Don't give this place your business. If they don't care about my order, they probably won't care about your order.

Good pizza with a good view!

by Thomas M.

This little place is right along Manhattan Beach Boulevard with a great view of the pier (if you sit outside on the benches, of course). The pizza is very good, and the slices are big! Pizza is reasonable priced, but the other items are more then I would want to pay for food of that quality.

PROS: good sized pizza, cheap, good location
CONS: dingy, cramped interior, overpriced items besides pizza

Salty Pizza and NO parking

by AndyGilchrist

I got a Deluxe with lots of toppings but you could only taste Salt! Maybe instead of frozen it's stored in salt?

And since the City of Manhattan Beach is the king of gouging it's citizens and visitors with outrageous parking meter prices - it will cost you $10 to run in and pick up the salty pizza!

Pros: None!

Cons: Pizza is awful

This Pizza cant be beat

by ElNomad

Besides maybe Mulberry's in Beverly Hills, this pizza is the best in Los Angeles. I dont know what the dude two below me is talking about, but the service is awesome. Whether I'm going in for a pitcher and a slice to watch the game in the quaint and home made dining area with some good lookin people, or smoking bowls and ordering a large Royal Hawaiian (my fav) this place delivers quality food from quality pizza. The wings are amazing as well, and the pitchers are reasonable. GO CHECK IT OUT!!

NOT the Best Pizza

by lafoodie90212

Let me open by saying that I would have given this place "0" stars if possible. I live in Manhattan Beach and have had pizza delivered from many places in the area. I have ordered from this place several times over the years and have noticed a steady, rapid decline, both in the quality of the pizza and in the service. After a bad experience, I didn't order from this place for a over a year. I decided to give them a chance after reading the reviews here. BIG MISTAKE! The person who answered the phone had trouble hearing my order over the loud music they were playing. After being disconnected when put on "hold" I finally placed my order and was told it would arrive in 30-45 minutes. After an hour, I called and was told that it was already "on it's way." After another 1/2 hour, I called again and was told that they were having problems and was again told that it was already "on it's way." I called again to complain and asked for the manager. I was told that there were no managers and the owner was out of town. When I commented, "When the cat's away, the m*** will play" she hung up on me. The pizza arrived before I could get through again to cancel the order. When it arrived, it was cold, so thin you could see through it (we're not talking "thin crust pizza here) and looked like a big bite had been taken out of it. ANY of the local or chain pizzarias have better pies and service.

BEING A NATIVE NEW YAWKUHHH ... I RATE IT THEEE BESTEST PIZZA W/O A DOUBT ... CRUST ET AL :)

by naana

Ummm although the last slice I ordered to go (twuz late @ night) was ummm not even warm but the taste (seasoning and crusty/crunchy crust) is so incredible and outstanding ... it didn't matter that much ... I scarfed it down! All the other pizzas available to the public is ummm I DON'T HAVE A NAME FOR IT :(

P.S. THEIR SAUCE OVER ANGEL HAIR PASTA OR IS DIVINELY SEASONED :)

Pros: EXCELLENTLY SEASONED ... JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF THIS AND THAT :)

Cons: NONE ... WELL THE "APPEARANCE" COULD IMPROVE BUT IF IT TAKES AWAY FROM THE FLAVOR ... FERGITTTTTTTTTTTTTTT IT ...

Overt Discrimination Means No Service

by bothomas99

I went this place with my wife yesterday and there was a line out the door of Caucasian kids. We graciously stood in line and when our time came to order the Hispanic male who was taking orders returned to making pizzas. Then a tall, ball-headed Caucasian male looked at us and then turned his back on us for a good five minutes like we didn't exist. There was no one behind us so I suppose there was no urgency to tend to us. We never even had a chance to order any food as we grew tired of being treated as second-class citizens and left. We dine and shop in Manhattan Beach rather frequently and never receive this type of treatment from anyone! One would hope that one person doesn't represent the face of the establishment, but unfortunately he had them all look bad during our visit yesterday.

Cons: Poor service.

Inconsistent food, horrible service, and even worse attitudes

by rachel2001

I am not sure where some of these reviewers have been eating, but it certainly is not at the same Manhattan Pizzeria that my family & I have been frequenting. We went over the weekend, & knowing that it takes a long time to get our pizza, we have begun to order over the phone so that we cut down on some of the ?wait? time. The phone experience was about par; we were put on hold 3 times, we had to repeat everything, & then the order was incorrectly read back. It was obvious the girl on the phone was pre-occupied & not interested in taking our order. She ended by saying the food would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes, & we arrived 12 minutes later. We were pleasantly surprised when we were told our order was ready, even though it was all packed to go when we specifically said we would be dining in. I presented my coupon at the time of payment, only to be told that I had to use it later, since the order was already rung up. I said this was unacceptable, & after much discussion with the gentleman I can only assume was the manager, my coupon was accepted. As soon as we began to eat we could tell why the order was completed so fast; the pizza was reheated from a pie that was sitting out to be sold as individual pieces. It was cold & hard, & did not have the extra cheese we had requested. The salad we ordered was missing the artichokes & croutons we had asked for, & when this was pointed out, they took the salad back to make the necessary corrections, only to bring it back to us still wrong. And, during the entire time the salad was being worked on, the manager was telling his cook (in Spanish) how unreasonable we were. We continue to eat here because my daughter loves the Italian Ices. If not for that, the food & service both are so bad that we would never go back. I cannot wait to find a place that serves decent Italian Ices, since that will mean that my family & I will not have to put up with people who obviously do not care about their customers.

Pros: Italian Ices, when available, are great.

Cons: Food, Service and Management

Best Pizza west of New York, BUT

by travelyn

This is truly the best pizza I have eaten west of New York. The low rating is customer service. Delivery is terrible. Either they have decided to not provide it on a given day or evening for whatever reason or, when it is delivered, the order is wrong.

Several times I have called and I get the response that they are not delivering today, this evening, or whatever). The three times I have received delivery, the orders have been wrong. Requested plain cheese pizza and got pepperoni. Requested a side salad and rceived a meatball sandwich. Tried to use coupons dispensed in a neihborhood mailer and the delivery person didn't know what to do (even though I had advised during my telephone order it would be used).Eating at the store itself is not necessarily a treat when the place is crowded - again poor service

Better than NY Pizza!!

by marytill

Being that I'm originally from NY, Manhattan Pizzeria had a lot to live up to on my first visit, but they more than passed the test.Their pizza is actually better than any pizzeria I've been to in NY! I've since been back countless times- it's the only pizza I crave!

Pros: The food and service are exceptional!

Cons: Too far from where I live!

Great place!!!...If you just CAN'T settle for a wannbe New York slice elsewhere...go here...trust us! hhehe

by exec_it_solutions

Just wanted to take 2 seconds to say how much we love their pizza...(one-one thousand, two-one thousand...hehe)...WE LOVE YOUR PIZZA! Being from Chicago, we're a bit biased about our pizza favorites, but if you want the best New York style pie west of the Mississippi, definitely check this place out. We go there everytime we're in town for a while and start to crave some classic thin crust perfection...thanks guys!

Pros: Great pizza, fast and friendly service, just another good reason to get to the beach... =)

Cons: They're not a pizza chain yet, available EVERYWHERE so we don't have to drive to them.

Best customer service! There is always a smile to be had upon entering and The Pie Guy along with his staff are friendly and quality service minded. We look forward to going in, sometimes picking up rather than delivery just for the smiles! Some of the best wings ever; pizza is always great! Thanks Pizza Guy!!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nope

Awesome delivery

by 310valleygirl

the pizza ROCKS! it's no deep dish chicago-style, but hands down the best in this neighborhood. yes, even better than that place on abbot kinney. they also deliver, but only after 5pm. and, definitely a great spot to stop at during the infamous south bay bike crawls.

Pros: the pizza ROCKS

Cons: not an eat-in kind of place, but they do have tables... capacity of 40, i'm guessing

Good pizza, but was better before. Service is and has always been a disaster.

by pinaka

I have been going here for about 3 years, mainly because my daughter likes the pizza. However, she especially likes the italian ices. Unfortunately, the consistency of the pizza is horrible. One time it is ok, the next time it is horrible. It has not been great for the past 2 years. As far as the italian ices, they now have a great supplier, but are often out of stock. This is the problem they have had since I started going here; one time they have the ices, then they are out for what can often be 2 weeks to 3 months. As far as service, it has gone from bad to horrible. They don't answer the phone so that I can call in an order, and when you get to the restaurant, the register person is either the pizza maker also, or they have no idea how to use the cash register.

I called the restaurant yesterday, got no answer on the phone, and then when I arrived I waited in line for 12 minutes to place my order. 20 minutes later I asked where my pizza was, and they had not started cooking it yet. I asked for the owner, and was told he is out of town for 2 weeks. I asked for my money back, and I was not the only one. Everyone seemed to be talking about how bad the place has become. In fact, I heard people joking about the signs on the wall asking the customers to log onto this website and vote them the BEST PIZZA of 2006. It is amazing to me that someone leaves their business when it is understaffed and the employees are not trained. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not run much better when the owner is in town.

This used to be my favorite pizza place, and the quality more than made up for the service. Now the quality is only "so-so," and the service has gotten worse, which I did not think was possible. I would not only not recommend going here, I will tell all of my friends not to go.

Pros: At this point, not much. Maybe the italian ices, when they are in stock.

Cons: Service, Service, Service!! And now

Manhattan Pizza? had to try it!

by colleenmcd59

Living in Manhattan we couldn't pass it up. Lucky for us it really was NY style pizza - sauce had just the right spice, plenty of cheese and the crust to die for! Wait staff very friendly. the only drawback was it was even noisier than a NYC pizzaria. Several televisions - two different basketball games, a movie and radio were all blasting at the same time. Not a good ambiance for holding much of a conversation but the pizza was divine!!!! Were giving it all four thumbs up!!!

Pros: great value, friendly staff, good location

Cons: noisy

Thank god I don't live in New York

by sa3rufus

If this is supposedly great authentic New York style pizza, then New Yorkers have about as much taste as I have always thought. How can anyone actually like to pay so much for a tiny pizza that doesn't taste all that great?

Pros: Convenient

Cons: Little pizza, High price, cardboard crust

by exnewyawker

Citysearch has finally nailed it. I always look at you recommendations before choosing a restaurant. I must say i do not always agree. However when I swa thet Manhattan Pizzeria in Manhattan beach was voted number 1, I had to add my 2 cents. The place is GREAT. I have going there for the past couple of years. I have got to tell you it just keeps getting better and better. I have read several of the reviews that are posted and I caanot top some of the allocades that have been heaped upon them. Their pizza is second to none and in addition they offer NY. style "Italian Ices" If they could add Potato Knishes to their menu I would feel like I never left home.

Pros: Great Location, Great Pizza, Great Atmospher

Unbelievable

by crashdog

I can not believe this place is highly recommended. I had a pizza delivered, that was the only good part. All they had was "new York style" (thin crust). It was so thin there were actually holes in the crust. Next time I want a pizza I think I will drive to COSTCO!! The only way I would eat this "pizza" again would be if I was starving, my truck broke down right in front of the joint, it was the only place open for 5 miles, and they were giving it away.

Traveled 3,000 miles for GREAT pizza

by arniel

To qualify as a pizza EXPERT one had to grow up in Brooklyn, N.Y. I, a real New Yorker ( even ran a subway train for 28 years ) know about pizza, so forget-about-it. I took a trip to L.A. recently and met a young dude who had the same (eloquent) Brooklyn accent as myself. I told him I missed good, inexpensive Italian heros and pizza. He recommended Manhattan Pizza near the beach. Some things in life are sacred to a tough New Yorker. Great pizza is one of them. I challenged the guy behind the counter to meet my expectations. I was more then surprised when I finished the first of many slices. I didn't think a pizza joint in L.A. could compare with true New York but Manhattan Pizza did. By the way, L.A., one day Brooklyn is going to take back our Dodgers.

Pros: authentic, friendly, good prices

Hungry in LA

by hungryinla

I was born and raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, I moved to LA about 10 years ago. While in Brooklyn I think I ate Pizza everyday. When I got to LA I tried to find good Pizza. The Pizza I did find was so bad I actually stopped eating it or even trying new places. I was resorting to only having Pizza when I went back for visits with Family or Friends. I once tried to have a friend fedex me a pizza from the Spumoni Gardens on 86th street. That is until a friend told me about Manhattan Pizzeria in Manhattan Beach. They really nailed it. Pizza is Great,Sauce is just like I have always known and loved and they are not stingy with the cheese. They even have Lemon Ices which they scoop into a paper cup.

Pros: Good Food, Beer & Wine, Great Service

by remythecat

Personally, this is the only pizza I will eat in the South Bay. I hate thick crust Chicago style pizzas but that is my taste. The gourmet style pizzas in some restaurants are ok but again that is not my taste. For those who want a NY style pizza it is great. Don't compare it to Chicago style or Sicilian because it is not suppose to be that style. If that is the type you are looking for you may be disappointed but if you are looking for a NY style pizza pie it's the best I have tasted outside of NY.

Manhattan Pizzeria, uses the finest cheeses, the specialist of sauces. It will bring nothing but utter delight to your tastebuds. The crust on this pizza is the best crust in town, firm and tasty. And if you like sausage I highly recommend the "sausage roll" . It is sausage, peppers, onions, and cheese rolled in pizza dough and baked in the over. It will make your mouth water.
