I have been taking my pup to a Banfield vet for the past year and a half with no issues (Thank you Carlsbad Banfield!! Kensie can't wait till we get to come home and see you guys!) However, Concord is a whole other story. Echoing everyone's sentiments, they are great when it comes to vaccinations, but anything else is a lost cause. My dog was supposed to come in this morning at 8am to collect a sample for a urinalysis (which they insisted was urgent that she be seen), I specifically explained to the girl at the front checking us in that she hadn't gone outside for the morning and we needed to hurry to collect the sample because her bladder was full. She proceeded to tell me she was just going to get the room ready and came around the desk to give my dog some attention. My dog, like any dog would do when excited for attention, proceeded to empty her bladder in the lobby floor. The girl's response "oh no, poor dog... What was she being seen for again?" My response, "You were supposed to collect what is now all over the floor."

Another vet assistant came out to help clean up the mess, and I asked her what my options were now that I couldn't complete the urine sample. I told her it was fairly urgent that I know what is going on with my dog, since I was leaving to go out of town the next day and my dog was going to a boarding facility. She explained to me that if I had a tupperware dish, I could attempt to collect a sample and bring it in that afternoon. Well, Idid just that. About 10 minutes after collecting the sample from my dog, I walked it back into the office and was told by another front desk clerk that they would call me when they analysis was done. I, AGAIN, explained how it was urgent that I get the results that day so I could take her to the boarding facility with no worry while I was out of town. She blew me off by saying, "You will get a call when its complete."

Three hours go by and still no phone call (Its now 4pm). I call them back to check the status of the analysis. I was told it was extremely busy and I'd just have to wait for the phone call. I again, with less patience, explained to her that I was going out of time and needed some sort of resolution that evening. Again- blown off by "You will get a phone call."

Fast forward to 7:45pm. Still no phone call. When I called, I was put on hold for 5 minutes, only to have the tech come back to say the analysis was never complete because the vet was unsure of how the sample was collected and would prefer to collect it herself.... And I hit the roof... Her exact words were "there is nothing I can do for now since the vet is not here anymore." WOW! How's that for great customer service, let alone lack of ANY concern for the welfare of my pet. Apparently this "urgent" issue that my dog could have wasn't so urgent anymore. This location's disorganization and lack of concern for their customer (both the pet and human) would alone make me run far far away from this establishment. I can only hope that my work assignment in Concord is over soon so that I can bring my dog back to a center that actually care about the wellbeing of the pets that they see.

I have had my good and bad with Banfield. Some people complain about the prices and I have to admit they are a little high. I would also say that they want to do tests that might not be necessary, but that is where people should be informed animal owners and do research when your dog is not feeling well. I have had three dogs on their wellness plans and Im glad that I got it. Most people don't realize that it is a plan to keep your dog healty and not emergencies so that is where most of the complaints. They have good vets and bad ones, but you can choose what vet to see when you go in. In fact, one vet gave me an alternate email address for him if I had questions about my dogs surgery. Also since I had to get rid of my two dogs when I had to move, the office worked wonderfully with me to keep the one dog on the plan. Just realize that it is a pet owners responsibility to be knowledge able about their animal. You do not know how wonderful it is to know that I can take my dog in at any time and not have to worry about the office visit and know that his shots are taken care of

These people don't even deserve ONE star but I'm required to put at least that...

I took my guinea pig there because she had lice and i wanted to make sure there wasn't something worse or if she needed some special treatment, this is my first guinea pig, better safe than sorry right? guess not... I figured they'd give me a spray or give her a dip or something instead they say she needs a $20 shot. So i went along with it and came back 10 minutes later when they said they would be done with this "simple procedure." They bring me in and tell me the shot went fine & her lice should start dying and falling off but after the shot while a vet tech was holding her there was a "complication." It seemed like NO ONE knew exactly what happened which is funny because there were about a million techs working that day. But apparently she got DROPPED when she "squirmed" and two of her 4 teeth were fractured so they had to put her under and trim them. They so graciously said they would pay for the surgery (note the sarcasm) but after all of that they still wanted me to pay $110 for a shot. Worst customer service EVER!!

I took her home that night and for the next couple days had to feed her drugs, food and water thru a syringe. AAAAAND to top it all off she still had lice! let me reiterate...SHE STILL HAD LICE!!!! Basically all they did was break my guinea pigs face & try to charge me for it!!!! So tonight I just went to the Petco to buy small animal parasite spray and it is working PERFECTLY for $7!!

I took two healthy kittens to be spayed. when I went back to pick them up I they said one kitten had a anesthetic reaction so they were keeping her a few more hours. We later picked up a unresponsive cat who could not stand, move her head. We took her to an animal emergency hospital where they said she was blind and her temp. was dropping. There was no hope for recovery and she was uthenized. One morning after being playful and healthy. Banfield is not the place to take your pet.

If you want to feel like you are being up-saled to than this is the place!

I took my cat here after a wound wasn't healing. $250 dollars later they informed me that the wound may not heal without a surgical cleaning which would cost an additional $800.

So I took him to another vet. $90 later, the new vet informed me that the wound is not infected and is healing slowly. No need for surgical cleaning (which through him would have been $500 less than Banfield).

I've been taking my puppy there since we first brought him home; which was 5 months ago. We have the wellness plan and it has saved us a lot of money on the vaccinations that were needed as well as other services our puppy needs. The staff there is very friendly and our vet, Dr.Salinas is the best! He is very knowledgeable and our puppy always is excited to see him. I recommend Banfield to all my friends and family with pets at home. I decided to write this review because all the other reviews I see here are not good ones. I know there is no way to make everyone happy, and unfortunatley, it usually only the people who are upset that take the time to write reviews.
Thank you for everything Banfield. We look forward to a lifetime relationship with you.

I have been taking my two cats to Banfield for years per their maintenance program. 4 months ago I took both my cats in for routine check-ups. I was told my male cat had renal disease and needed special diet and treatment. I was told by the vet that my female cat was perfectly healthy. I treated my male cat as prescribed by the vet. I pushed my female cat away from the special diet for months. Over the last 2 months I noticed that my female cat got thinner and thinner and was acting strange all over my home. My male cat just got fatter. 2 weeks ago I took my female cat to Banfield for an emergency check-up. She had loss 40% of her body weight. I was told that my cat (The female) Had renal disease Advanced kidney disease by a different vet at Banfield. They said that it was acute but I know that is not the truth because my female cat had been peeing anywhere but the litter box for the last couple years (It was a mess but I love her and accommodated her). My female cat died August 7, 09 at 11:38PM from Kidney failure.I am 100% certain that they were negligent in the diagnosis 4 months ago. Somehow they put the wrong name on the blood/urine samples/test and treated the wrong cat for 4 months while the sick cat was never treated at all..I am looking for any legal advice from anyone who can help stop this mistreatment of our pets...

Well it would seem that it is time for everyone to consider their options as to who they choose for a vet and do some research. The animal shelters or animal groups can probably make a better recommendation than the phone book or the chain store PetCo. Don't get me wrong - I go to the Petco (or Petsmart or whatever it is) but I buy pet products there, not take my pet there.

This being said, you should try Four Corners Veterinary Hospital in Concord on Meadow Lane. However, if your whole issue is about saving $10 on a visit then you should stay with Banfield - the Kaiser of the veterinary hospitals.

SO I HAVE A LITTLE CHIHUAHUA AND SHE GOT REALLY SICK AND SENSE I HAD PET INSURANCE I WENT AHEAD AND BROUGHT HER THERE. FIRST OFF THERE STAFF IS HORRIBLE, IT CHANGES EVERY TIME IM THERE AND THEY ARE NOT SO NICE. WELL ANYWAYS THE DOCTOR WHO WAS THERE DECIDED TO MEDICALLY TREAT HER, WELL THAT WAS $400 ONLY TO NOT HELP AT ALL. IT ACTUALLY MADE HER WORSE. I HAD TO TAKE HER TO THE EMERGENCY VET AND SHE HAD TO STAY THERE FOR ANOTHER 3 DAYS AND THAT COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG. SO MY ADVICE DONT GO HERE. MAYBE THEY ARE GOOD AT SHOTS AND LITTLE STUFF, BUT I WOULDNT TAKE THE CHANCE.

My cat had pet insurance through this hospital (located inside of Petsmart) and so we brought here often for checkups and especially when she got sick. She was misdiagnosed several times by the head Vet there, and we ended up having to bring her in to the UC Davis Vet hospital, where they took the correct xrays and told us exactly what was wrong. Turns out the Bansfield Vet was way off, and we wasted a lot of time and money, and my cat suffered immensely because of it. I don't think the people here care about animals at all or even know what they are doing.

They have nice wellness plans that are great for puppies since they need lots of shots and check ups. It also gives you a slight discount on mediciation and other items you need to purchase. However in comparison with other vet hospitals I feel this place is more of a mall type potrait place instead of a professional studio. They are there to get you on your way, not really give great quality care. It's a good place to go if you pet just needs routine stuff, but I wouldn't go there if my pet was really sick.

I don't feel like they discuss my options or different courses of action I can take. For example they just game my dog the lyme vaccination, and I later found out it's not really necessary and from now on my dog will test positive for lyme disease because of the vaccine. I'd like to be more informed about optional treatments.

Also one time I brought my dog in to have them look at a tooth and they took him back and emptied his anal glands and charged me for it before asking if I wanted it done. Since then he's had anal gland problems.

My dog has had acute arthritis, and Banfield has been extremely helpful in getting him medicine and working with his needs. The staff is caring, facilities are kept clean, and medicine arrives in a timely manner if they must order it. They have helped us to find a medicine that transforms my dog from stiff to energetic.
