I like the location and selection of Coupa Cafe enough that I go there fairly regularly... but I'm still in search of the *perfect* coffeehouse in Palo Alto.

I like the food selection quite a bit, but it's a bit pricy for the portions.

No wifi on the weekends is a bummer... but I bring my wireless card to get around that.

Drinks are on the pricier side, too.

And, it's always SO crowded! But I guess that's because they have a pretty good place to hang, and everyone else recognizes it too :)

Pros: good ambiance, pretty good food, drinks

Cons: no wifi on weekend, super crowded, chairs aren't that comfy

A friend introduced me to Coupa and I have to say I'm hooked. The ambiance is great, the hot chocolates, although pretty darn expensive, are yummy, and you never feel like you have to leave once you're done with your coffee. There's also free wireless, which makes this the perfect place to study, work, or meet with friends,

The biggest downfall is that the wireless only works during the week, so if you're looking for a place to escape to on the weekend to study, you'll be disappointed that this gem doesn't offer wireless then.

I don't know about this place. The espressos are consistently overly extracted, therefore quite bitter. The cappuccinos are too foamy. The pricing for everything is high for the quality provided. The service is consistently ok, nothing exceptional. The one thing going for them is the actual location. Since it is a Spanish historic building it is quite small and cozy.

Great place to hangout on any evening with friends. Chatting over coffee and pasteries or crepes, as the day goes by...

Love this coffee house. Only wish it isn't so popular and therefore always so crowded. Great for people watching but only if you can find a seat! The coffee and hot chocolates are heavenly. So are the desserts.

if you havent tried their hot chocolate then you haven't really experienced palo alto. they import many of their ingredients from venezuela directly from producers, and the high quality is clearly apparent.

besides being a good place for people watching, its also a nice place to study or read, particularly if you dont need 100% concentration.

the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is that the service is sometimes rushed in an effort to turn over the tables.

PROS: hot chocolate, ambiance
CONS: service

Coupa knows foam, and that's a critical component to a great latte. They also have some amazing pastries and chocolates. I've had their hot chocolate as well when I'm looking for a drink alternative and it has a nice kick. The fact that you can work on your laptop while enjoying your drinks and treats makes the whole experience feel extremely productive.

This is a nice place to meet someone for coffee, breakfast, or lunch. I bought some coffee beans to make my own brew at home and now I'm addicted. The decor is very nice spaciouys and there is outside seating in front of the cafe as well.

Coupa Cafe offers wonderful, thick hot chocolate in Palo Alto.

They serve coffee, tea as well as food items such as salads, sandwiches, croissant, cookies, pastries.

The hot chocolate is the reason to go to Coupa Cafe.

PROS: Free wireless, fireplace in the winter
CONS: Crowded

My girlfriends and I occasionally meet at Coupa Cafe for brunch on weekends, and the food is always excellent. The only downside is that it is a popular spot -- so it's difficult to find a table for even a small group, and when you do, people standing in line for their food are likely to be looming over you.

I had been blindly going to the hectic Starbucks on University for months before finally discovering Coupa Cafe. Just a few steps off University on Ramona, Coupa Cafe is a much more mellow environment with (in my opinion) much better coffee. I haven't tried the pastries, but they look very good as well. Free WiFi doesn't hurt either.

PROS: Great coffee, free WiFi
CONS:

Coupa cafe has great ambiance, some of the best chocolates I've ever had -- the spicy maya bite is inexpensive, firey pepper dark chocolate -- and FREE wireless (until 10pm, anyways). Their coffees have above average foam and they have a variety of seating, including tables, booths, benches with embroidered pillows, and a really cool, old wood and leather bench.

As a whole, your Coupa experience will set you back more than other cafes, though. It's Palo Alto.

While University Ave boasts its own small army of Coffee Cafes, you have to venture off to the side streets to find this hidden gem. From the moment you walk in, you'll be delighted by the wide assortment of delicious chocolate confections... hope you saved room for dessert! While the coffees are generally comparable in quality to their University Ave peers, the Spicy Mayan chocolate milk is not to be missed... one taste and you'll think you're in a scene from the film Chocolat

PROS: Delicious coffees in large, pleasing mugs... the way coffee cafes should be
CONS: Not very many tables most occupied for hours by yuppies on laptops
