At Sunset Thai, you'll enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, excellent service from our friendly waitresses, reasonable prices and, above all, great Thai food, including steamed chicken dumplings, pad thai, spicy thai noodles and the chef's personal favorite: Som Tum (Papaya) Salad--a traditional Thai salad with a unique, many-flavored dressing--sweet from Thai palm sugar, sour from lime juice and a little spicy from Thai chili--all mixed with papaya. The house specialty desert is mango with sticky rice. A friendly Sunset Thai waitress will be right with you!

Very good food!

by Debbie R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,618

I haven't been in the restaurant; however, I order from here a lot. It's really good food in good portions. Prices aren't as cheap as your neighborhood small place, but the food is fresh and well prepared.

good food, bad service

by Anita A. | insider Insider | Rank: 21,226

In a restaurant, a service makes or breaks the experience. Though i was delighted with the food, but was really turned off with the level of service our table received. The food is served fresh with punch of flavor and aroma. If you can overlook the service, this is def good Thai grub!

Best Thai In Hollywood;) !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! (PART 2)

by DanielBeltran

3)Value and Portions
LUNCH!!!! has the best value.... You can walk out the door with a healthy meal for 8 dollars + tip. Includes soup-salad-roll-rice-and main item of choice (mine is usually the yellow curry or pad-thai) eating the entire plate is a pretty heavy task and could give the biggest person a run for their money.
DINNER is still a good value if you re with a odd number of people and sharing is involved.
Even so, plates will run in the 10-15 dollar range.. I ll always get the brown rice as well.
Expect to bring home a great deal of leftovers......

4)Service
Very nice people, tho they're fairly timid and may be too shy to ask twice about your order so be very clear and concise, or they'll bring out something random... they'll be somewhat forgiving if you explain the circumstance if there is a mix up.

5)Sanitation
Supposedly a 'B' but I believe it is because of its location in such an old building keeping up might be harder than in a new one. Their bathroom is just below par and sometimes their is a weird smell in the place but not lately.

Do not be mislead by the hype that TOI is superior, this is a farce. You can check out my blog on TOI as well.
Hope this helped:)

Curry Salmon with Coconut

by cmilburn

This was the best dish that I have ever eaten. I am not sure of the exact name of the dish. We live 200 miles away but will certain eat there next time I am in LA. I would love this recipe. The blend betweeen the coconut milk, vegetables, curry and salmon was heavenly. I would highly recommend this dish.

Pros: Our meal was delivered promptly. It was hot and not overcooked.

Good food, but only if they give you what you actually ordered--HORRIBLE SERVICE

by musey

I ordered delivery from Sunset Thai tonight, and one of the items I requested was "fried wontons." They only list one menu item with that name, with no other options, and the description is "Cream cheese wrapped with wonton skin served with sweet and sour sauce."

When they came, they had a lumpy brown mess inside... when you are expecting cream cheese, that is not exactly appetizing. I called them immediately to ask whether they had another menu item listed under "fried wontons," and the woman who picked up said "yes, with cream cheese and with ground chicken." This was the same woman who had taken my order initially, and she did NOT give me these options at that time. I explained to her that the menu I had did not list any ground chicken option, and that when I ordered them I was after the cream cheese version... to which she said "Okay...." and then nothing more. She wasn't willing to send out a replacement, which is understandable, but she was also completely unwilling to apologize for the misstep.

We will NOT be ordering from them again, EVER.

Cons: Slow delivery, wrong items brought, poor service

Best Pad Ki Mow in LA!

by phatcat1

I have never had better Thai food in LA and the staff is extremely nice. The Pad Ki Mow may be the best thing I have ever eaten. (in LA) Period.

Service can be a little scattered, and the ambiance is obviously nothing fancy, but you're not paying black-tie prices either. Sunset Thai delivers a taste of the exotic for a very reasonable

It will take a while, but I plan to try everything on the menu.

Pros: Best Pad Ki Mow in LA, fast delivery.

Cons: Ambience...

Try this Thai!

by gumbyzmom

A friend and I were going to a film screening at Harmony Gold and wanted to have lunch nearby, so decided to try Sunset Thai. We were laughing because it is on the same block at the famous Toi were everyone usually goes. I'm really glad we took the road less traveled because we had an amazingly delicious lunch. It was hard to decide what to order because everything looked so good. I'm a vegan and was delighted to see so veggie choices -- even hot and sour veggie soup, which I have never seen on a Thai menu before. We ended up sharing the succulent steamed veggie dumplings, the flavorful spicy eggplant and pumpkin with tofu, with their wonderfully different brown rice dish. We topped off our meal with the crispy fried banana rolls. Everything was perfect, including the service. And there was enough food left over to take home for another large meal. I'm definitely coming back for that soup some time...

Pros: many vegan choices, had some different dishes

Cons: parking

Amazing Thai

by motorkat

I love Thai food, but am picky about it, so I am so glad my friend randomly picked this place for her birthday. The whole staff was so very friendly and helpful, the food was fresh and vibrant and came fast. The prices were typical for a Thai restaurant and given the quality and absolute drool worthy taste, definitely a great value. HIGHLY recommended. Next time I am craving Thai and anywhere near the area, I will go straight there.

Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff

Cons: Parking (but what can you expect in that area?)

Great local Thai food in relaxed casual atmosphere.

by jdsla

This is our local Thai restaurant and we have never had anything but great service and great food. Not as well-known (or as popular) as Toi a couple of doors down, but the food is better here. I have read the others reviews mentioning bad service but that has never been my experience... maybe they do not handle big groups well? Lunch special is also great value.

The customer is NOT always right in Thailand.

by jeephat

Decided to try the delivery on a whim. Was pleased during the ordering process, the woman on the phone repeated the order to me multiple times. At delivery one main dish and two sides were missing. We called to rectify the situation, and conviently the woman suddenly had a hard time understanding english. After arguing that I did or did not order the food, and if I did or did not recieve it, she said she'd send it right out. An hour later the driver showed up and charged us full price for our missing food that we'd been waiting for. No way to treat a first time customer.

Pros: decent take-out food

Cons: customer care

To enjoy a relaxing atmosphere, romantic, excellent service from friendly waitress. Specially thai spicy seafood combinations highly recomended. For vegetrain options as appertiser suggest try some sunsetthai roll which is yummy yummy with house special sauce. And if you order soup sour, spciy and coconut milk it call "tom kha" with tantalizing aroma of thai herbs it put it in a hop pot for you with and open flame to keep it nice ant hot so can it at your leisure

Best Thai in LA

by mark79ga

Atmosphere is very cozy and unassuming. Cheerful/attentive waitstaff serves delicious, fresh Thai cuisine with a smile. The tom kah gai (chicken coconut milk soup) is some of the best I've had. All of the ingredients are fresh and delicious. Not much seating...they deliver as well.

Pros: fresh food, authentic, great service

Cons: little seating

Good food but deplorable

by moomoo_89

I went with a large group of friends. I decided to get a cup of soup for myself. The waitress misunderstood me and brought a pot instead of just a cup. When I told her it was a mistake, she literally SCREAMED at me and called me a liar. Later, all of the entrees were brought out but one of my friends' Pad Thai dinner was missing, even though someone else had ordered the same thing and gotten it on time. The rest of us finished eating and still the Pad Thai hadn't arrived so my friend simply cancelled her order. Then they had the nerve to add on a 15% gratuity, fought us when we said we were only going to leave 10%. The food was good, but I would not recommend going there unless you like psychotic servers.

really gone down

by chartree

I tried Sunset Thai a couple of years ago and liked it. I was in the area today and thought I'd stop by for dinner. It was very disappointing. I ordered a cup of coffee, I received a half filled cup and warm. I took it to the waitress and asked if I could have a hot coffee and full cup, iI was later charged for two cups. I ordered a House special dish called Spicy seafood combination, that were not only not spicy, but very bland. I mentioned to the waittress that the dish was not spicy, she looked at me annoyed and said it is supposed to be mild, did you want it spicy? I responded that I thought it would be since it's called "spicy". She seemed very uninterested in how satisfied I was with my food. I would never go back.

Cons: no parking, bad service

thai tour

by rai97

My Wife and I are huge Thai food fans. While vactioning in L.A. we made a point to eat at as many thai restuarants as possible. We were dissapointed with the first four places we tried. On the fourth to last day of our trip we tried Sunset Thai and were so satisfied that we ate there for dinner every day for the rest of the trip.

Pros: spiciness, friendly
