I go to Pearl just to wander around and get ideas for my next project. I like the way the arrange the products, because it's easy to remember the extras that you might not think to get. Their assortment of special papers always amaze me, and they always have every conceivable size of foam core. That place inspires my creative side, they could stand to be a little quicker at the register, but I'm never in a hurry when I'm there anyway.

Pros: Amazing selection

I dread every visit to Pearl because of their bum employees, limited service, and ridiculously high prices. Being one of the only "art" stores in LA, I'm forced to suffer their inadequacies.

Even with their "student discount," items are still over priced. I would recommend going to Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster. Its a far drive, but if you need to stock up, do it there.

Whether you're a professional artist, a student working your way up, or simply someone who's feeling creative, this store is amazing. Huge two story building that will leave you with a mind boggling amount of project ideas. Prices aren't always on the items, but the workers are willing to help you find it. I shopped at this location a few years ago and the stock was just horrid, management was awful, and the employees didn't seem to know squat about art. The store is now under new management with a fresh bunch of faces (with a few familiar ones as well), all of whom either know what they're doing or will try their best to help you find the information you need, and are simply fun to chat with. Occasionally, they'll be somewhat rude, but it's important to remember you're doing business with humans in a retail setting, and anyone who's worked a job like that knows it can be rough on the nerves somedays, and sometimes you just can't help but let it show. The only real complaint I have about the store is their inability to order items when they run out, their answer is "We aren't in charge of ordering, but you can call next week to see if any came in." The best part is they give a 10% discount to teachers and students who have proof, they'll accept a current school ID or even a syllabus or class list! They also have an elevator for the lazy or handicapped, and a public restroom.

Pros: Large selection of items, parking lot, friendly employees, great prices.

Cons: Inability to special order single items, pricetags seem to grow legs and run away frequently.

I can always rely on Pearl for a wide variety of art supplies, and they usually have everything they carry in stock. I might say, as far as supply goes, it's the be4st art supply store in LA.

The staff isincredibly rude and unhelpful.

-When I was offered help, it was from a man much younger than me who started flirting with me and asking me personal questions (are you married, how old are you).
-They can't quite figure out if they have apublic restroom or not- the restroom is very clear, but you need a key, and half the time they will tell me "the restroom is for staff only", the other half the time, I'm given a key.
-They don't have a very clear return/exchange policy. I came with an unusded product in hand, with a reciept, and was told "I'm not supposed to do this but I guess we can exchange it", but then another time, I came without a receipt with a used bottle of paint, and their was no hassle.
-They make it very clear they are socializing and not there to help.--when I ask for help, they will point in the direction of the item, or say they deon't know, then resume their chatter.

I would reccomend this art supply if you are a real pro and know exactly what you need. It is very well stocked, and has two stories of great supplies. Help seems to be offered as a method of flirting, which doesen't sit well with me.

This store is great! The selection is quite eclectic and it has stuff for both the professional artist and the occasional hobbyist. They have a huge selection of paints and canvases in acrylic, enamel, oil and watercolor medium. The upper floor is devoted to more mixed media items and craft supplies and they have a really good variety. They offer a student discount and have good sales every so often. Even at regular price the items are a good deal and the selection is not to be missed.

If I had all the money in the world, I would buy out this store. Parking is limited and somewhat precarious but the selection here is top-notch and wont disappoint!

Thankfully, this place accepts most art student IDs to qualify for store discounts. The best part of the store is that it has a great supply selection. Everything from paints to portfolios to papers is covered which means it's less of a hassle trying to find what you need to get a project done. Parking can get congested, but it's not hell either.

PROS: great art supply variety; prices okay
CONS: parking can be tight
