I used to live in the neighborhood and would take all my horns to Manny. He's a great guy. I once had a gig on a Saturday and a pad had fallen out of my Mark VI. He just pulled one off the wall and let me use it while he worked on mine.

I recently took a new trumpet that I accidently dinged into the Horn Connection. Excellent job taking out the ding. If I didn't know it was there originally I couldn't tell there ever was one there. And the job it was priced great. Manny and Alex are really nice people to deal with.

Pros: Good prices on his work.

This is a great place for all your sax needs.

Repairs are outstanding and reasonably priced, considering it's just Manny doing the repairs. He is a good guy and definitely knows his work. I think his hours are 4-6PM during the week and he works Saturdays too. He saved my horns a few times.
The selection of vintage horns is pretty amazing and they have mouthpieces and ligs as well. Alexei is a knowledgeable sales guy, a good tenor player, and has tons of experience with the gear.
This IS the place to go if you are in Los Angeles area.

Pros: Cheap reeds, huge selection and pro sales

Cons: Watch where you park, pay the meters. Don't park on Sunset

I do work at The Horn Connection, so my positives are slanted and I'm not going to list negatives.

Here is an example of amazing repair work that Manny does: a customer brought a very expecive flute, chewed on by a dog. I was sure there was nothing that could be done.

In a few days the fute played and looked like new.
And plus the cheapest reeds in town.

Pros: The largest collection of Mark 6 Saxes

Manny is a competent, sharp guy who does very good work. But he really needs to work on his attitude. The guy talks down to me every time I go in there, telling me my horn's a piece of ****, etc. I'm not making this up. I don't have the money to buy a new horn, and I just play for fun anyway, so being reprimanded repeatedly over it is not really a lot of fun. I've since taken my business elsewhere.

Pros: the actual work

Cons: you might get yelled at

There are 2 types of music stores, those owned by someone who plays and who knows their stuff, and ones owned by somebody just out to make a buck. The Horn Connection is one of those places where they definitely know their stuff.

Manny and his staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend this store to any of my friends who play.

Park on Gardner rather than Sunset.
