Van Nuys Flyaway is clean and the people are extremely helpful. The bus shuttles are ontime and for both ways it was excellent. I was motivated to write because it caused me to wonder if the negative reviews I read were actually written by people affiliated with a cab company or something that would find hurts their business because the Flyaway has been consistently a fantastic service.

The Van Nuys Flyaway is an unbelievable mess. I have waited for two hours at LAX for one of their buses, and then got standing room only. The buses pick up terminals 1,2,3.... first; and then take a shortcut out of the loop. Therefore, if you are waiting at the end terminals -- you can expect to wait and wait. They are so mismanaged that it's unbelievable. The employees are surly, and the prices have gone way up in recent years, and none of their brand new automated ticket machines or turnstiles have EVER worked. And to boot, they don't accept CASH for a bus ticket of $7 one way -- make sure to bring your credit card. Taxpayer dollars at work here for the $34 million dollar expansion.

We used to love the flyaway since we fly every month. But they started raising the prices every month, which seemed natural at first, but to double within 6 months is extreme. Along with the raised rates, they cut back on the frequency of the buses, mainly I noticed the difference on pickups, where we used to wait 5 or 10 minutes, now is 30. And they no longer take cash even though they have the cash ticket machines which is annoying when you are rushing to catch the bus. We just took it today and it was the last straw for us. After a 13 hour flight, we were ready to get home. The bus took 30 minutes and when it arrived, the guy said he could only take passengers with no luggage...who flies with no luggage?! I would assume only terrorists. The next bus would be there "momentarily". Ya right. As we waited, the amount of people just filled up, making us nervous that now everyone was gonna push to get on the bus. 30 minutes later, the bus came...and told us it was full and to wait for the next bus. Finally when the bus came and we managed to get on, the driver proceeded to shout that HE was the one who loaded all our bags, "ME, Grey shirt, in case you wanted to give me something for some reason"...and he said this twice! We always tip when we get our bags, but the blatent demand for it was soooo inappropriate. With all the hassles and now costing $12 round trip per person, if you are traveling with anyone, it is much better to park near the airport, who have quick free shuttles and save a lot of time and the cost would be the same. The time it takes to wait for the bus, you could have already driven there and since the prices are up so much, you aren't saving money anymore. Disappointing.

We were sorely disappointed with our recent Flyaway experience. I have taken the this bus a few times a number of years ago. I can't figure out how they can run every 15-20 minutes from Van Nuys to LAX, but show up only every half an hour a few years ago, now apparently every hour and a half now. I don't know how they can claim more frequent service -- what happens to the busses going to LAX from Van Nuys that actually do leave every 15-20 minutes??? How do they not appear on a similar schedule for the LAX - Van Nuys part?? We waited on the curb for a full hour and a half for a bus to Van Nuys, while MANY MANY Flyaway buses passed going elsewhere or were going to Van Nuys but full. Also, once 2-3 full Van Nuys busses have passed, why doesn't management start the busses at terminal 5-7 rather than again filling up at terminal one. Its crazy to have to talk from terminal 7 to terminal 1 to get a bus you can actually get on.

This service is so cheap, clean and direct! Their buses are very clean and comfortable. Just need to keep in mind the buses run only every 30 min from Van Nuys; seem to be more frequent from the airport. And it's easier to get a friend tro drop you at the Van Nuys stop than go all the way to LAX.

If your going out to the SF Valley I can't think of a better way to get there outside of your own car. I've ridden the Flyaway service since before it was taken over by the airport authority and it's a convenient way to get to/from LAX. It has gotten more crowded over the years and that's to be taken into consideration when using it. TIPS: Someone suggested catching the bus at the 1st terminal to get a seat. Also you can check your luggage at the Flyaway Terminal for some airlines for about $5.00 extra.

Please take Fly away from LAX to Van nuys, it's incredible and cheap than a cab. Buses are clean, fresh and the seats are comfortable. This was my first experience with Fly away and I love it from LAX to Van nuys and from Van nuys to LAX. Try it, you will tell your experience...

5:45 am on the bus at Van Nuys and into LAX and Northwest Airlines by 6:30 am. For $4.00 ( one way ) you can't beat that for price and service. I am from the midwest and really appreciate this kind of service. I will use this flyaway service again.

The Flyaway is great. Convenient, inexpensive, safe and clean. Great to take to the airport, but be careful. They can be busy, so don't get there for the last bus that will get you to the airport on time. The other caveat is when you return back to Van Nuys. Our last experience was when we came back to LAX via United which is Terminal 7. Buy the time the bus got to terminal 7, it was full, at least 6 buses passed us by for over an hour and a half! Actually, after an hour, we started walking back terminal by terminal until we got to number 5. When the buses were still full, we walked (w/ two small children and luggage) across the airport to Terminal 1, got an an empty bus and waved goodbye to the people still waiting at Terminal 7. They should have buses that start at Terminal 4 or 5 so the buses don't get full before the get to 7.

Was kind of apprehensive with all the poor reviews, but my experience couldn't have been better. LAX to VNuys on a friday evening. There was an attendant at the stop to make sure I boarded the correct bus. It arrived after a two minute wait. The bus was nearly empty and loaded maybe 12 people total. The coach was in decent shape although the first seat I chose was broken. Easy to pay in VN with a BART style fare gate. Can't imagine it being any easier or convenient.

Didn't have any problem....LAX to VN on a friday evening. There was an attendant at the pick up stop to make sure I took the correct bus. The nearly empty bus pulled up almost immediately and loaded maybe 12 passengers total. The coach was in decent shape although the first seat I chose was broken. Turnstyles like BART to pay once you get to VN. Couldn't have been any more easy or convenient.

Recently, two of us returned from Europe - an 11 hours flight. Add to that one and one-half hours of clearing customs, and we exited Tom Bradley Terminal to await our return trip to Van Nuys. There were already about 50 people waiting at the curb. One and one-half hours later, we were still standing there, trying to stay awake, and so we took a cab home - $100 cash! FLYAWAY FAILED TO DELIVER ON THEIR SERVICE CONTRACT which is what your roundtrip ticket promises. THIS IS FRAUD! Here is why: During the time we waited, there were THREE Flyaway buses headed for Westwood - they are so close, why do they need Flyaway service? - plus ALL THREE WESTWOOD BUSES WERE TOTALLY EMPTY! One drive got out and called in, and reported to us "They are on the way" - A LIE! Two Flyaway buses to UNION STATION drove by, but they were about half full. One drive shouted out to us, "They're two stops away!" ANOTHER LIE! FINALLY, another 30 minutes later, a bus to Van Nuys appeared, and had 5 SEATS available for over 70 people now standing curbside!!!!! We have used the Flyaway service in the past, and never had this problem.
VAN NUYS FLYAWAY service is a FRAUD. DO NOT DEPEND ON IT IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE AND WILLING TO ST AND ON THE CURB AND WAIT FOR A RIDE FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS!!!!!!

Arrived at LAX: 10:00 pm * At United Terminal waiting for a FlyAway Bus: 10:20 pm * Boarding a FlyAway Bus: 12:13 am.2 HOURS waiting for a bus! 2 buses passed by another one stopped but did not have room for luggage. Perhaps FlyAway has tried to take on more than they are capable of handling. I won't say that I will never use FlyAway again, but I will look into every and any other possibility first. Who wants to stand out for 2 hours waiting for a bus after a 10 hour flight at 11 o'clock at night? I don't and won't do it again.

Having used the Flyaway in Burbank a few times a year for the past few years, I can write a good review. 4 times out of 5 it was excellent. This last return trip from Las Vegas w/ my best friend it was not. As we were at United's Baggage claim we could see two Flyaway buses pull up at 5:15 & 5:20pm. We did get out there at 5:19 but the driver did not see us. At 5:25 another bus came but it was to Downtown L.A. We had to wait another 25 min. for bus #67074 pulled up w/ a small, middle-aged female driver who did load our luggage for us & she did drive well. However, when we arrived at Burbank there was no help for her to unload even though she asked the large, young man taking the return tickets for help. Everyone was a bit peeved over this.

PROS: Price, avoids traffic & making friends &/or family drive us & visa versa
CONS: Standing on an "island" in the middle of LAX traffic & waiting.

Do you live anywhere in the San Fernando Valley and dont want to pay ridiculous cab/shuttle fares to get to LAX or brave the 405 freeway traffic and then go through the hassles of parking? Then Flyaway is the ideal solution. For a mere $3.50 one way or $6.00 roundtrip, it takes you NONSTOP from Van Nuys airport to LAX... get someone to drop you off at the bus terminal or park your car there and take the bus. There are buses every 30 mins until midnight and then every hour until 6AM to and from LAX. Seats are ultra comfortable and the crew helps with the baggage for no charge at all (tip them if you like).

Overall, just excellent!

Start your vacation early by not battling traffic down to Los Angeles. It is cheap, and drops you right at your airline. You can relax while the bus takes you to the airport and picks you up. It runs every half hour except during busier travel times, where it runs every fifteen minutes.

If anyone has ever used this service, they have probably already had a good experience. But, with the new remodeling that has taken place, not only is there an enourmous amount of parking, but they had made drop-off access painless. Additionally, there are automated machines that allow you to buy tickets as well as seek change.
