The California avocados made this sandwich, one crispy sourdough. Egg cooked just right- fried with a bit of runny yolk still! And their homemade salsa was very good.

My in laws got the huervos Mexican which was big enough to share and

The food is good enough, but you really go here for the drinks and the company. A local's favorite where the drinks are strong and the company is boisterous. It's great fun on a Friday or Saturday night and a definite must to get your night started right.

Didn't know what to expect and just went in for dinner. Had a drink and the Special of the night... Ham Hocks! Wow! Being from Louisiana originally, it needed some added kick (i.e. Tabasco), but the ham and beans were EXCELLENT!

Cons: can't think of any

Okay sooo... we're from Los Angeles and we went up to Santa Barabara for the weekend.

Beautiful City... we had a great time wine tasting, checking out the scenery and fun!

Until our last day there... we stopped in at Joe's Cafe... it looked like a nice little place... convenient... roomy

Until we sat down and had the worst service I have EVER had in my life!

Our waitress/server was non communicative.... she didn't say a word to us except "are you ready to order?"

EVerytime we would ask her for this or for that she didn't ever confirm with a "yes" or "no"... nor did she even nod her head to let us know that she heard us!!!

So... low and behold, there we items missing... and the food was horrible! The things we requested weren't even put in. I got blueberry pancakes with 3 whole blueberries in them!!!!

When the manager came by to see how everything was going we explained our situation and she sided with the server saying "oh so and so is a GREAT server" and blamed the food solely on the KITCHEN! She never once said "oh I'm sorry, let me fix that for you" or "i'm sorry is there anything I can do to make it better?" We didnt want a free meal or anything... we just wanted descent service!

On our way out the 3 out of 4 of us walked out and our 4th friend had a bum leg at the time so he trailed behind us and heard the manager tell all of her servers "they were just being arrogant"

OMG!!! we're over here spending our hard earned money and she wants to treat us that way!?!

WORST SERVICE! WORST RESTAURANT!

My husband and I love this place. Every time we visit SB we eat there at least 3 times in a weekend. Great great food, stiff drinks, great breakfast, great night scene. Love it.

Order the lemmondrop and for about 6 $ you will get about three drinks worth! I go there all the time becuase you get the best value liquor wise for your buck! Most Santa BArbara people either start or finish thier nights at Joe's

Though we saw a nostalgic looking sign reading Joes Cafe from our hotel across State Street, we werent compelled to eat there until after our Santa Barbara Trolley Tour. Once the guide noted that Joes was the oldest eatery in Santa Barbara, we were sold. Anyplace that stays in business for almost 80 years has to be doing something right And they are. Old school bar and dining booths in dark woods and old school menu filled with dark meats. Prime rib, Tri-Tip, French Dip and one of the many specials on Thursdays -- Hamhocks and Beans. The best diner dish ever! Large portions, good value and tasty food. Though the old-timers received more service attention and respect than we did, the atmosphere of history made up for that slight. The place does have character and we can hardly wait to return to try their chili dishes.

This place is old. And it's great. Dating all the way back to the 20's the place feels old, but is really cool. The food is a little expensive but is very nice on state street.
