Message from "The Terrace Room" at The Lake Merritt Hotel

We are Oakland's premier lake front restaurant, set in a 1920s art deco supper club with panoramic view of Lake Merritt. Executive Chef James Dame has created a familiar American bistro with sophisticated updates. Look to "Mix and Match" your way through the menu by choosing from traditional favorites like roast chicken, smoked tri-tip or line-caught crispy salmon, then match them with any of the daily side dishes. Or you can go the more traditional route and try the numerous daily specials that are inspired by the freshest local ingredients. Our philosophy is "Local First" we make every effort to use local organic farms for all our produce and dairy. Our beef is from the north coast and our seafood is always from sustainable sources. We look forward to serving you in The Terrace Room.

Beautiful Views!

by Cheryl S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 466

The restaurant is beautifully appointed, the food is delicious and the ambiance is worth the trip down 880 during rush hour traffic. However, it is the views from the dining room that make this the ideal spot for weddings and corporate events. The big picture windows look out over the Lake and simply entrance the viewer! If you really want to experience the magic of this locale, make a reservation around sunset so you can see the magnificent oranges, red and yellows bounce on the water. Great dining experience!

We were really looking forward to eating here.

by karent

Easter Sunday, our party of 4 arrived at 12:10 for a 12:00 reservation (the church service ran long).
The room was relatively crowded, but there were empty tables and several groups getting to the end of their meals.
We waited another half hour to be seated.
After we were seated, we waited another half hour with no sign of a waiter. There were several running around like mad, but none of them came near us. Finally, the bus girl took pity on us, wrote down our order very carefully and went off to submit it to someone.
AN HOUR LATER WE STILL HAD NO FOOD!
We got up to leave and the manager assured us that our food was coming right out. We sat back down and it did.
Every single order had a mistake.
So we left.
It's a beautiful space. They get lots of good reviews.
But not from me.
I'll never go back. I'd be afraid to even try."

Pros: Amazing View

Cons: horrible, terrible, inexcusable service
