This food is really great. I was told that John goes in very early in the morning and makes many of his menu items from scratch. The Eggs Benedict is always delicious and care is taken to make sure the eggs are poached to perfection. It's a great place to visit before or after the zoo, but my favorite thing to do is park near the beach to the north of the restaurant and walk along the multi-use path to John's. Then I'm nice and hungry for the delicious and filling food there. I can feel some "old school" San Francisco magic there, and the wait staff are friendly, casual and interesting. Some friends and I are headed there today, I can't wait!

Pros: Excellent "diner" style food, an air of history, great beach/zoo location, great staff

Cons: parking not so good (park further and walk!) doesn't have that "scrubbed down" look

Great spot! The scrambles are sooo good. Love the fruit plate, too.

Parking is challenging. Don't let that discourage you from trying this one.

We discovered this place while staying at the Ocean Park Motel nearby. I've had the corned beef and spinach scrambler twice and the Philly cheese steak. Both were excellent! My wife has had the middle east scrambler with lamb sausage as well as the chicken-apple sausage scrambler special. Outstanding! Great coffee, too. Parking can be difficult because of the zoo, Ocean Beach and street cleaning restrictions (we got a ticket).

John's is my absolute favorite place to go for a lazy weekend breakfast. The poached eggs & corned beef hash is awesome, the scramblers are all great, the portions are big. And it's decently priced. Yum!
