it's not fancy, not trendy ...but hands-down the best (and most reasonably priced) sushi in Brentwood! I recommend sitting at the Sushi bar. It's a great way to venture beyond the spicy tuna roll and explore great treats like Spanish

Pros: great sushi bar, great price,

Cons: interior design is a little outdated

A very nice, high end, Japanese restaurant in the Brentwood area. Great food, but under new ownership, so things might have changed. Parking is a pain, and the valet is slow. Otherwise, a good place for a meal. Everything is fresh, and the service is generally quick. While the prices are higher than some, their early bird dinners are certainly quite reasonable.

Asakuma offers a very creative selection of delicious dishes. We don't get to go there too often, but everything we've tried has been great. Prices are OK, but I'd rather pay and really savor the flavor of my food. Highly recommended!

I would ignore the review below this. Yes the service is spotty. I will be completely honest with that, but if you are honest with your frustrations they will honor them by doing what they can in terms of taking care of you. \r

Pros: Black Cod, Authentic Sushi Chefs, Comfortable Atmosphere

.

Asakuma is arguably the best Japanese restaurant on the Westside. Offering an elegantly appointed dining room and gracious service, it consistently produces delicious and well-prepared Japanese cuisine for its appreciative and loyal customers. The standout among their many excellent combination dinners is the marinated black cod, a house specialty. Asakuma also serves a wide selection of deftly prepared sushi. Prices are moderate, and their daily early-bird dinner special (served from 5:30 to 7:00 pm) is one of the city's greatest values. The restaurant also has a private room for parties and special occasions,

Could this be the WORST Japanese restaurant in LA? I think yes. I have been to dozens and dozens of Japanese restaurants in LA--both high end and low end. Asakuma is the worst I have eaten in LA by far. Terrible food and service.

Pros: Open on Monday

Cons: Terrible food and service and so loud it hurt our ears. My stomach still hurts!

.

ok this has been my typical Asakuma experience from start to finish: (recommended to me by my japanese friends, who rave about the BLACK COD. I have found that many japanese ppl eat there, which speaks to the authenticity of the cuisine.

I was introduced to Asakuma just recently by a friend. Let's just say... I've been back on my own probably a dozen times in the last 2 months. This restaurant is by far the best Japanese food in the Los Angeles area. I only wish I'd

I could go on about how Asakuma should have more reviews here, how they have found a way to glaze a miso cod in a delicious way while cooking an imperfect fish to perfection, or about how their sushi is consistent and good.\r

Pros: Miso Cod, good sushi, "free" valet

Cons: Deceptive business practices - SHAME!!!

My wife and I had a great experience here. We've heard about it for a long time but finally went ourselves. We shared the house specialty glazed black cod and a sushi plate. Both were fantastic. The cod is melt in your mouth delicious.

Pros: Quality, Freshness, Portions

.

The food at this place was very flavorful. I would recommend the tuna sashimi salad, which is gives you generous portions of tuna sashimi. The sukiyaki was a bit too salty although the flavor was very good, just be prepared to eat it

The fish was among the freshest I've had, including at restaurants in Tokyo, Kyoto, San Francisco, and New York. Service at the counter was stand-offish at first (as in most top sushi places), but quickly warmed up. Engage the chef
