Berkeley Motorworks Inc

I've had my BMW serviced all over the bay area, because I've lived in San Francisco, the South Bay and the East Bay. This is the best shop I've ever used - and now I won't go anywhere else. In my experience the place that is closest to Berkeley Motor Works in quality is Concord BMW - but at twice the price. Plus this is a small shop so you get wonderfully personalized service - they work within your schedule, drop you off and pick you up at home, work quickly, and never do unnecessary work.

There are currently two negative reviews on this site which make very strong statements - and that REALLY surprises me. I've been going here for over three years now and I've never had any experience like the ones they describe - not even the hint of one. They are always friendly and prompt, and the work they do is first rate. Give them a chance, it is well worth it!

I met Mike in 1991 or 1992 when I was referred to him about a '74 2002 I got stuck with. When the car finally looked like a lost cause, Mike helped me get a '79 528i for a good price, and then kept it on the road like a new car for 12 years! I'm the farthest thing from an automotive expert, and I learned to depend on Mike and his crew for straight advice, honest work, and always the best price-to-reward ratio. I learned a ton of stuff from Mike about how it all works (old dog, new tricks), and I even looked forward to visiting the shop for oil changes, service etc.

GREAT service, helpful people, good value. What's not to like?

Berkeley Motor Works in Albany is the best place for you to bring your BMW, MINI, Mercedes, and AUDI. They are so professional and friendly...
My mom brought her car there (by the way she doesn't speak good English), she was having all kinds of problems with her car... They didn't take advantage of her and only FIXED what was needed on her car... There were some recommendations for the near future but the most important is that they didn't go replacing stuff that wasn't needed.... They could have easily take advantage of her being that she doesn't speak or can understand English very well but they didn't, instead they took my mom under their wings and fixed her car! This is WHY I would recommend these professionals to all my family and friends, Oh and YOU....

5 Stars and MORE!!!!

As a BMW owner, I recognize quality. After my first visit, I knew that this shop provided the best in service. I would recommend this to my Mom...and Oh yea, All my friends. Get your BMW - Mercedes- MINI _ or Audi repaired by these professionals.

I LOVE YOU GUYS AND THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY CAR!!! If you own a BMW I would strongly recommend you bring it to Berkeley Motor Works on San Pablo Ave in Albany. They are the BEST! Regardless what reviews you read or what you hear about the place, you need to try them before you make any decisions... The price are reasonable, the work is professional, and the service is outstanding... They have the best employees ever... The service adviser at the front desk is so nice and polite...Literally she is the sweetest thing ever!!! She listens to everything you say and makes sure that your car is fixed correctly at a reasonable price... Every time I bring my car in, they are always so happy with a smile and ready to fix my car... They drop me off at work and even comes to pick me up when my car is finish.
When I brought my car in recently, it was beat down and running like a broken scooter... It was idling like crazy... Smoke coming from the tail pipes. Starting and not starting... Coolant leaks.... Hell my car was completely toasted but BERKELEY MOTOR WORKS were able to bring my car back and alive like BRAND NEW! They are seriously the best....
I've been a BMW owner for over 7 years and out of the 7 years my car has been serviced at BERKELEY MOTOR WORKS for 3 years.... I have never came across a place as honest, nice, and outstanding as them... The shop is clean, and the waiting room is like home... So to make a long story short, bring your car to BERKELEY MOTOR WORKS and give them a try... You will not regret it, I promise!

I've been taking my BMW to Berkeley Motor Works since 1992. Mike and Jane, the owners, take great pride in their work, honest and definitely a place you can trust. Carol answers the phone and works up front. Friendly service. The mechanic fixed a running problem that other shops were scratching their heads about. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I had my bmw dropped off by a tow truck to Berkeley Motor Works based on recommendations. I never got a call after it was dropped off. When i called, they said I needed other work which I authorized without hesitation since I knew some of those problems were in the car like worn bushings on the rear shocks. They also wanted to change the shocks from OEM Boge to Bilsteins so I can get the car out by the next day which I agreed to since I knew Bilsteins can come next day and is readily stocked by the local German Auto Salvage in berkeley. Well, the next day came, and I did not yet get the car. In fact, I had to pick call them up around 6pm only to be told that it would be until the next day that the car would be ready.

PROS: good at recommending other services that needed to be done to make more $$
CONS: don't expect them to give you updates on your car til its time 2 collect $

These people are honest! That was the most important factor in choosing a mechnic. They are responbile, timely, and fairly priced. The service is impeccible. I've never felt that I was being taken advantage of. If my budget is limited, they are responsive in assisting me in choosing the most important things to fix. These people are great!
