I never worked for the current owner or director of this preschool. I was an employee of Green Acres Daycare, Inc until 1995. The founding owner's daughter sold it in 2005 and I think it changed hands twice. I really loved the location and the grounds. I believe you have to love what you do, especially when you work with children. I would love to purchase the program and the property and make it a place that would be well respected in the North Highlands community. It saddens me to think this preschool that I once loved has turned into a place not fit for the development of young children. This is NOT the vision the founding owner & director saw for her preschool. I hope the next owners or director can turn things around for the better.

i wouldnt send my child here, the owner is rude and treats the employees like slaves, teachers are always overwhelmed with a million things to do and lots of screaming kids, teachers recieve no breaks or proper prep times, the enrollment is low and even though the facility is on a state food program the children are fed ridiculous lunches like top ramen. terrible

Green Acres has not run a quality preschool program in some time. When they get lucky and hire good staff the program operates well for awhile until those staff get too overwhelmed by the working conditions. The first review below was written before the new owner took over, but there were major issues even then. If you're even considering Green Acres, please ask for copies of the licensing inspections. You'll find the same regulations broke time after time, mainly being understaffed for the number of children present, along with some maintenance type issues that never seem to be a priority even though they could endanger your child! However good the teachers are(and they've had some exceptionally good ones) there's only so much the teachers can do when the owners refuse to operate within state guidelines.

After the new owner took over, I immediately pulled my children out after seeing too many red flags. Children are allowed to play out in front of the day care in the driveway & near the gates which are LEFT OPEN where any child can run out into traffic. They have a perfectly fine GATED playground in the back, away from traffic. Having them play in front is an obvious danger to any sound person, but the new owner doesn't grasp that concept. Many times I came in to pick my children up and noticed the children to teacher ratio was way out of proportion. There would be one young teacher supervising several children at a time and no director, owner, or any other teachers to help out. The kids were completely out of control and the teacher was stressed out. The direct words from the owner herself were, "It is not my responsibility to take care of other people's children." She's a day care owner, what does she THINK she's supposed to do all day?!!! When requesting to speak to her about concerns, you're immediately greeted with a smug look, bad attitude, and an unwillingness to listen. More parents got smart and followed suit by pulling their children out as well. PLEASE go elsewhere when seeking a quality day care. A place where your children will be safe, be well supervised, and have an owner/teachers that listen & take your concerns seriously. If you'd rather stress all day while you're at work about whether your child is being taken well care of, then Green Acres is the place for you.

I worked here. Although the code is followed and there isn't any mistreatment...the director Jean is crazy. She seriously fakes sick and works and makes it look like she works hard. She has good intentions but is too old school. She makes the kids say sorry and kiss each other to make up because she says the parents think it's cute. She is very old school and not at all up to date with studies. Although new studies constantly change, you have to be open to them and she is not. She was confrontational to myself in front of 3 3-4 year olds and I found that inappropriate. I think she didn't like me because I was really advancing in my communication with the parents and was full of ideas. I say this because I think she likes to have all the power and being the hot shot that she perhaps feared potential in me. Everyone that worked there seemed to be a yes ma'am staff and I wasn't so much...even the owner because she kept the school going. I have my own personal reasons for not liking it. To be honest I wouldn't send my child here because she is too old school. I like my children to learn to think outside the box not tracing inside it.

I was having some problems finding quality preschool and daycare in the area. My daughter had been going to Headstart but was not getting anywhere and she was suffering injuries on an almost daily basis from the other kids. I took a look at some of the other preschools in the area and Green Acres was the only one that stood out as an excellent option.
My daughter is in their preschool program and its amazing how far she has come. The teachers and Director are very good at what they do. My 4 year old daughter is reading some of her first words, counting, making the cutiest art projects and she absolutely loves it. She has new friends, and she loves her teachers.
My husband and I love Green Acres and would highly recommend them to anyone in a second!

Pros: Awesome staff, home like atomsphere, lower rates, great preschool program, food is included

Cons: building is a little older, not open weekends
