This place is one-of-a-kind, as auto repair shops go. When Armen was managing the place service was a bit more, shall we say, congenial, maybe even warmer. Johnny is a no-frills kind of guy who requires patience when dealing with him.

Be prepared to allow plenty of slack when "leaving" your car there. Just because the job may only require one day to work on it, doesn't mean that's when you will have your car back.

What I can say is he will go out of his way to find the least expensive route for you. I have found the prices to be significantly lower than other shops. While he will not win any awards for "time management" or "customer service," as we know it in the traditional sense, Johnny will not cheat you or bite off more than he can chew---he has no patience for whiners or neuvo-AA personality types.

The mechanics are competent, and they stand behind their work. If something goes wrong that was their fault, Johnny takes responsibility and does whatever is necessary to make it right, but don't expect a smiling face in the process.

I've been taking my car there for over 8 years and have no complaints about the service, or the quality of work. I have moved from Pasadena and now live in San Dimas, but I don't mind the trip--I still take it there for all my repairs.

From my perspective, and in light of the above verbose description, I recommend Crown City Transmission with confidence.

I took my 2005 Dodge Caravan here on a Saturday and waited for the better part of 2 hours, while the old man (owner or manger) Johnny ceaselessly talked my ear off in the office about everything from politics, to religion, to the end of the world.
He told me it was was not a transmission problem, which was great news, and he advised me to come back on Monday with the vehicle.
I came back Monday at Noon and the shop was mildly busy.
Jon-Jon or Johnny (He kept changing his name) was nice enough to give me and my girlfriend a ride home, so we could leave our vehicle at the shop.
We called Tuesday morning and they told us to call back later.
Finally, we called back late in the afternoon on Tuesday and politely informed them that we had to be at work by 5pm, and he told us that he would drive by and pick us up to come get the car. I was sad that the car had sat at the shop for over 24 hours and still had not been looked at, but was relieved that he would shuttle back to the shop, which was only a few blocks from where we live. He picked us up in our own car and then drove it back to the shop (in 3rd gear the whole way?). I asked his wife why he would drive our vehicle to come pick us up, instead of a properly working vehicle at the shop? After all, the whole reason we were there was to get our car repaired because it was not driving well.
He told us to bring the car back on Friday morning, which we did, and when we got there he told us come have a seat in the office and then informed us that he did not want to work on our car anymore because we had offended him with our question about using our own car to pick us up. I actually thought he was joking until he showed us the door to leave.
This was completely random and did not make any sense.
Up until that point, nothing indicated that he was nuts.
I will never come back to this place, they have wasted enough of our time and we still need to get our car repaired.
I STRONGLY urge to not do business with these people.
I have also contacted the BBB.

I first started taking my '78 VW Bus and my '02 Jaguar to this place because they're just a couple of blocks from my studio, and again and again, they prove to me that they're very talented mechanics. Armen (owner?) is as trustworthy as they come, and I know that he'd never try to fix something that wasn't broken or replace something that could be easily fixed. They don't do every type of repair, but what they do, they do incredibly well.

Armen was rude and it took 4 visits to the shop and one tow that they had to pay for to finnally put a decent trany in. I felt they were not honest I think only after it cost them $$ It was somewhat fixed it still doesnt like to go onto reverse but i will take it somewhere else.

Pros: after 4 times they still tried to fix it

Cons: Had to deal with a rude owner. still doesnt work right. had to go back several times.

These guys did a great job. The price was reasonable, the work was done quickly and my car has been running smoothly ever since. Important to me was they were very friendly and you will get a sense right away that they won't take advantage of you.
Thanks Armen.

These guys repaired a transmission for us in our Jeep after we took it to Pasadena Rusnak and the transmission bolt was left out an dthe tranny almost separated from the car on the 210 freeway. They fixed it quickly and even helped get Rusnak to pay us all of our money back for their shoddy work!
