We had friends visiting the weekend before Thanksgiving and wanted to do an early Thanksgiving dinner. We called Texas West BBQ Sat morning and they specially smoked a turkey for us and it was ready by the afternoon at the Roseville Restaurant.
We let the bird sit for a few hours and the aroma of the smoked bird was mouthwatering. And we and our guests have nothing but rave reviews about the sweet, tender and smokey flavor of the turkey just melts in your mouth.
By far the best turkey I've ever had. I highly recommend Texas West's Smoked Turkey for Thanksgiving. Great choice and they do all the work!
Thanks Mr. BBQ!
I have been there several times. About 1/4 of the time its pretty good. After this time I will never go back. I feel we got yesterdays leftovers. I ordered the chicken and tri-tip plate, VERY DRY, Over cooked waste of money. I don't mind paying for a good meal but this was a total waste of money. Lucilles in Rocklin, is the best in the area, worth the drive. Also what is that working behind the counter, creppy.......
Pros: It used to be good
Cons: Way too much money (44.00 for two) VERY DRY...

Once upon a time in a place far away this use to be best bbq joint in town. Now they have gotten way to popular. And what happens to places that get popular? They go down hill and rest on their laurels and quit paying attention to the details that made them what they are. Sorry, I used to love this place, but no more. The pulled pork sandwiches are now dried out stringy pork sandwiches, the tri-trip is dry-trip. I have eaten there for the last time.
I tried Texas West Bar-B-Que many years ago and it was decent. However tonight my wife and I tried the Folsom Texas West Bar-B-Que part of their chain of 3 locations. To be short and blunt, we will never go back again. We decided we wanted to sample all the basic BBQ foods, our order for $37 1 beer, 1 coke, 1 Texas Trio=(3 spare ribs, 5 small slices of brisket, 1 chicken thigh-leg), 1 pulled pork platter. Our sides, BBQ beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, fries.\r
The beer was good, the coke was good, and it goes downhill from there. The ribs were awful, dried out, not fresh, no decent flavor, must add sauce to eat. The chicken was nearly as bad, the brisket was the best of the trio, again small pieces, fairly dry. The pulled pork platter, meat was dryish and no flavor. I doubt the smoking is even done at this location, the food must be transported from another location and kept all day under some heat, there is no other explanation for such bad food. The sides were ok, the beans ok nothing special though. The coleslaw was ok not a lot of flavor. My wife liked the macaroni salad, and I thought it ok. The fries were decent.\r
We will never go back!
Pros: The exit works.
Cons: bad food, what else is there?
I go here often and the food and service is great! You can't get better barbeque anywhere around town. The ribs and the pulled pork are my favorites. I've always had great service and the staff goes out of their way to make sure everything is just right, you don't find that in most restaurants these days. I always take my out-of-town guests to Texas West because and they always want to go back there when they come to town again. I highly recommend this place.
Pros: Ribs, Pulled pork, Tri tip
I took my family to Texas West BBQ tonight, $67. a total waste of my money and gas, very disappointing. The BBQ was horrible, how many days have they been serving the same BBQ it taste like it was cooked last week everything was Dry and had No Flavor. Our food was cold. I have no idea how anyone could give this place 5 stars, was it given by a family member or a very good friend? I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Someone owes me a refund.........\r
Pros: I'm not sick yet
Cons: I'm sure it wont be long
Don't go here, just don't. The food was disgusting and expensive, the staff was rude, and the five-star ""reviews"" given to this place seem to be written by staff or friends and family of the staff and not real patrons of the place. I just looked at the number of stars given to this place without reading the one-star reviews, big mistake. Twenty-five dollars down the drain, I'll never go back. If you're one of those people that do what other people tell you not to do, well, I just hope that you fare better than I did eating at this place.
Cons: Bad food, rude service, expensive, not real bbq!
I came back to see if my review was posted. I tried before and it was not.\r
I saw the the rating somehow was 3 stars. If I would have starred it it would be ""0""\r
've never posted anything before but I thought this merited it.\r
Cousin and I weekly go to rib places everywhere and competitions.\r
He lives close by to the restaurant, had heard good and bad about it. He went by himself and said it was the worst he's ever had. We have a ""3 strike"" rule where if the same place was ever bad we would NEVER go back again. Because he lived close by he had his 3 strikes/ If I wanted to go I would have to go on my own.\r
I tend to feed my 2 other co-workers (prison). I got the rib and chicken combo for 4 to go. I went in the day before and placed my order so it would be ready the next early afternoon. It was supposed to come with plates and utensils (did not).\r
The meal barely fed 3 let alone 4. I could tell my co-workers were holding back so all three of us could eat. The sides (beans and slaw) were in small styrofoam cups, just one of us could have eaten the one cup each. Beans were generic sauce bland. Slaw everyone took a small scoop each and went untouched after.\r
Ribs and chicken had very little meat on both. Both were very DRY. Our 1st impression was they were left over from the night before and re-heated for us the next day. The ribs were basically burnt tiny jerky on a bone w/ spiced ketchup.\r
The 3 of us agree w/o the 3 strike rule to NEVER go back again. We agreed w/ my cousin.\r
*The 3 of us bbq at work at least 3 times out of our 5 day week. Many of the prisoners could do better.\r
I decided not to cook that day, I should have.\r
Not one thing was good on our order.\r
If you want better offering for buck for Texas BBQ go to the one on Otto Cir.
Pros: Close by
Cons: Order not as presented on menu, little meat on ribs and chicken, dry /burnt. Small portions. Sauces very generic.
Texas West makes the best pork ribs I've ever tasted and the hot sauces they have are the cherry on the pie.
Pros: Worth much more but great price
Cons: I can never remember where it is located
Texas West is for sure best BBQ in town! Great ribs and the Tri tip is really good! I go there at least a couple of times a month and everything I've tried is really good. Everything was very tasty and tender and exactly what great BBQ should taste like. I would highly recommend going there.
Pros: Ribs, Chicken, Tri-tip, burgers and their homemade Fries!
When talking about BBQ you can't beat Texas West. I've tried many different places for ribs/chicken and Texas is the best place. For those that didnt like the BBQ I don't see how, \r
Pros: The Ribs & Chicken Basket is the best! gotta add hot sauce
Cons: Seatings, a bit Pricy (but compare to restaurants the prices arent that bad)
I went here with my girlfriend recently on a hot summer night, only because I always see such awesome reviews on this place. I saw rewards they got, etc etc and figured it must be excellent. \r
We ordered some bbq pork ribs and a tri-tip meal with 2 sides. The ribs barely had enough meat on them to chew, and aside from that they were kinda dry and the meat just lacked flavor. The only good thing about them was the bbq sauce on them. My tri-tip wasn't what I consider tri-tip. It was slices of what seemed like thick roast beef, just not the juicy tri-tip steak that I'm used to eating. It had hardly any flavor, and my girlfriend concurred that it was bland and she only had one tasting of it. I had to dip the meat in bbq sauce to eat it, and even then it wasn't that enjoyable. The only good thing about that meal was the beans that came with it. \r
The price was also ridiculous. It was like 30 bucks for those two things, and 2 drinks. \r
Overall a huge dissapointment considering the price and the reviews that I have been seeing. Maybe I went with the wrong choices, but to me a good bbq place should have good meat no matter what you order. Those are my 2 cents.
I live in the neighborhood, and I love good Que, so we visited several times, hoping it would improve. The only thing this places gets right is the ambience - and even that seems a little pre-fab. The meals are expensive (for BBQ) - and the meat is DRY and flavorless. The sauce is boring - you're better off getting your sauce out of a jar.
The potato salad is great - but why order a $15 plate for $1.50 in potato salad?
Pros: Potato salad
Cons: Dry, flavorless meat, Price, Slow service
I have been here only once, but I did go looking for it and glad I found it. I will go back each trip out to Sacramento.
Not a lot of seats.
Pros: serving size, flavor, service
Ok, having experience BBQ in Texas, Maryland, and Georgia, this place does not come close to what true BBQ is. I was extremely disappointed as well as astonished by the inflated prices. This place is average at best. The meat was not juicy and pump enough, while the flavor was just too sweet. Highly disappointing.
If you're looking for real Texas BBQ (that's smoked), this is the place! We had the Tri-tip sandwich which is really good and the ribs that fell off the bone! They have really good side dishes too, we had the potato salad and homemade fries. The staff are really friendly and made sure we were very happy. I highly recommend eating here, it's a good ol' fashioned BBQ place.
Pros: Ribs, Tip-tip, Fries
I am a chef & I will Be going there very soon !!!
Pros: Looks Real Good !
Cons: Closer to Carmichael
I've had a lot of BBQ in my life and other than one I had in NC once this is absolutely the worst ever. Small protions, dry, not meaty at all. BBQ beans... I saw the beans but I didn't see anything BBQ about them.
Cons: Price, Taste, Value
We had a unpleasant evening at the q last night.I called ahead to make sure that they will have a fat free salad dressing available. On arrival I found the ordering sloppy. When I request a fat free salad dressing, the cashier tell me she is not sure whether they have some but she'll check. They assured me that its ff till I request to see the bottle. Then suddenly they didn't have it.The tri tip plate came with 5 slices of meat Ireally think thats a rip off,it was dry and you'd have to dip it in some sauce to be able to swallow it.The ribs was good. The corndog and fries were oily
Pros: good parking
Cons: BAD service, expensive
This place has awesome ribs!! I loved the babybacks and chicken. Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about since they don't have waitresses. I highly recommend this place. The fries were homemade and great!!
Pros: Baby backs, fries, chicken
Wow, what a let down. The regular plate order of baby back ribs were dry, very little meat and crusted. Probably got the weekend's leftovers. Tried to eat 1.5 bones and told the waitress it wasn't very good. She replaced the ribs with half of what the original order was. 5 ribs that were short, fatty and crusty. They put the sauce in a little cup on the side. The fries were in little pieces and soaked in grease. The cole slaw was completely dry and the beans half juice. What's up with that. At least the toast was good, but that was expensive toast. Waitress told us we should have had the other ribs(spare). The tri tip plate had a generous portion of very tender, but very dry meat. Sauce was in a little cup on the side, again. All in all it was a very disappointing $38 meal.
When I walked in and saw the prices I said ""ouch!"" It was over $34.00 for my boyfriend and I to eat.......................and it was worth every single penny!!! The sauce was awesome. The beans were flavorful and NOT bland. The potatoe salad was seasoned just right with chunks of potatoes. The coleslaw was YUM!!! I have been to other restaurants where the beans needed salt and the potatoe salad had the consistency of paste with only signs of mayo and mustard and very little potatoes. The smoky flavor of the chicken and ribs had me screamin' for more! High in price but you get quality food and service and after that meal, all I wanted to do was take a nap.
Pros: service, flavor of ALL food
Texas West has the best BBQ sandwiches! The meat is juicy and the sauce is fantastic. I have even taken my clients to lunch there. This is a role your sleves up and use lots of napkins restaurant! I would recommend it to any true BBQ lover.
Pros: Great Food, Not Crowded
Cons: Picnic tables, Location
