Kitaro Japanese Restaurant

This place has decent Japanese food. Good food, cheap prices. If you can get a coupon that is often found in the coupon mailers, then it makes this place even better. The sushi is not bad for the price, but I prefer the regular food. I would recommend the chicken karaage. Also, parking and waiting is an issue on weekends.

The sushi here is great! The place is always packed and even more packed on the weekends. They have specialty rolls and bento boxes also! There are a lot of workers there, so the service isn't bad considering the volume of people they have coming in.

a cheap place for japanese food. they have a varieties of rolls and lunch specials and dinner specials. the food is good, but nto great, but for their price, it's totally worth it.

Whenever my group of friends get together to go eat lunch and is in the mood for some great Japanese food, we don't even have to think about where to go. Having been there so many times we practically memorized the menu, we had never been let down once. The service, while not also speedy, is okay. But the food is wonderful and even more lovely is the price. Compared to other numerous sushi joints in San Francisco, Kitaro is in the lower priced portion. The place is almost always full so be sure to get there a bit earlier before the afternoon rush. Parking can be a pain, especially since it is located on Geary st. so park your car on Anza or Balboa if you want to have a parking spot.

PROS: great food
CONS: parking is a headache.

I can't say enough good things about Kitaro. It's fantastic. It's prices are unbelievably low. Truly unbelievably. The first time you go in you will not believe how cheap this sushi is. It almost makes you nervous. Don't be. The place is always packed and they are constantly selling sushi, so it's always fresh. They have some interesting rolls you don't see at other sushi joints, using ingredients like jalapeno peppers.

The food here is prepared and brought to your table very quickly. My friends and I always order extra because it seems like everyone here always has a full table. The fish tastes like its come right from the sea and the rest of the ingredients are also just as fresh. It can get a bit claustrophobic here because the place is small and it is popular with all sorts of ages. A good tip is to wait outside to avoid blocking the wait staff and the entrance.

The food is really cheap, especially their lunch specials. Their bento box is enought to fill you up alone, but sushi is so cheap that you almost wanna stuff yourself beyond control. It can get really crowded, but service is pretty good. Sushi, while good, is not top quality, however.
