This is the yummiest, most unique coffee drink I've had.
The breakfast and lunch menu are fantastic, and this is a great spot to brunch. Especially on Sundays through the Summer when the Farmer's Market is on the street outside.
One thing is: I agree with Matt C. re calling in an order. This is an area where they can improve.

I tried to place an order for delivery, and I was told to hold. I waited on hold for 17 min until i got fed up and hung up. I called back and told them my problem.
I was told that they dont delivery until 5:00 pm, and that she had no paper with her so she couldnt take my order. So I was put on hold for 17 min to be told that i couldnt order
What kind of service is that? I would understand if the person talking to me was a trainee, but no professionally run place should have a trainee answering phones.
I have eaten there in the past, and the food was good, but the service in this case was BAD

I went there with a friend for breakfast the day after Christmas. When we tried to order, the waitress unapolagetically anounced that we were "too late for breakfast" and told us "you'll have to order lunch" (it was several minutes after 11:00 am). We expressed surprise. She was adamant that the rules prohibited us from ordering breakfast. While we waited for her to return, we realized that the diners seated at every other table in the restaurant were eating breakfast. We watched numerous breakfast plates being brought out from the kitchen and being served to other patrons. I questioned the waitress again, and I pointed out that breakfast plates were being brought from the kitchen at that very moment. The waitress was hostile and completely unhelpful. She told me that the rules are that no one can order breakfast after 11:00 am under any circumstances. I told her that I thought that's a dumb rule. The waitress replied, "Don't be mad at me, I don't make the rules, I only enforce them." At 11:10 am, we walked out without ordering.

The town of Montrose is more like small town USA rather than a suburb of Los Angeles. It's a great little town up near the mountains to walk around and relax... and the Black Cow is my favorite cafe around. It's a very cute little cafe with a great breakfast. They also serve dinner, but it's the breakfast food that I love most here. Sit inside or outside. The service is quick and there is plenty of parking in the area. There is also a coffee counter with desserts.
Stroll across the street after eating and check out the adorable kittens for adoption in the window of the pet store!

What a wonderful little cafe the Black Cow is. All of the food looks, smells and tastes wonderful (what I've had thus far), and the service was quite nice. I highly recommend the Butternut Squash Soup if it is available - the best I've ever had by far, and I've tried plenty different bowls of what has become my favorite soup. This is a great cafe for conversation, not too loud, but not library-quiet either.

The Black Cow Cafe is a nice restaurant nestled in the Montrose Shopping park. It is a popular place to go to for breakfast and lunch. They serve dinner as well. The Black Cow serves typical American cuisine such as steak and sandwiches. They also have pot roast and pastas. Breakfast is busy and many people like to sit and enjoy a hearty start to their day. It is a good place to go to anytime of the day.

I've been frequenting the Black Cow for many years and receive the occasional delivery too.
The food is quite delicious.
I think their seafood is superb. You wouldn't expect this calibar seafood from this type of place but their chef's are putting out some great stuff. Look for the Blue Cheese Crusted Halibut or the Caramalized Salmon over garlic-potato salad.
Sandwiches and Salads are also unexpected food finds in this quaint small town cafe.
Sorry to hear about your overcharged salad. Sounds like a mistake. Surprised to hear negative comment about the staff too. They seem to have always employed a solid staff with great hospitality. Service is almost always good. : )

I discovered this place one weekend when I went up to Montrose on a lark. I went in and ordered an iced coffee drink and it came with sweet cream. I love this place so I go here whenever I am taking a "day off" which is not very often. The food is also really good. I ordered something I can' t quite remember now as it was last summer but I remember liking it :)

While I do enjoy the food, BEWARE of the $1.99 salad option when buying an Entree. As I have been charged over $4.00 for this $1.99 house salad!!
They have done this every single time I have ordered it!!!
In the past year or so, that is easily over 25 orders (and including my family for a total of 3 salads, that is roughly $12 that they have tried or have stolen from me each and every time. And to make everything better, management does not care and sometimes they refused to refund the money that they have stolen

This is a great restaurant. It is a hidden gem amidst Honolulu Ave. The eclectic menu and close quarters culminate a quaint place to have breakfast or lunch. There is a coffee bar, great salads, specialty soups, and an oustanding grilled cheese with 5 cheese. Parking is hidden behing the restaurant and the restaurant faces Honolulu with outdoor seating as well to observe the locals wandering around on the street. To beat the lunch rush, come on off-peak times and the weekends for both breakfast and lunch are recommended to come at off times as well.

This is almost the perfect kids' place. Great menu (chicken fried steak, and, as my kids like to say, chicken fried chicken, are standouts). I love their stew -- I don't put peas in mine! They do, and I love it!
