Pros: Low prices, personable sushi chef, always quick in and out

Cons: not the best ambiance

.

I have been going here for the last 4 1/2 years. After reading a few of the reviews I had to post my own experiences.

I have gone to pretty much every sushi place in Rancho including Samurai, itsmo (out of business), ichi maki, Sensei, Ninja... and Botan is my favorite. Why?Well..

1) the rice is cooked perfectly. The word Sushi means rice with a topping usually fish. If the rice is not cooked perfectly no matter what you put on it it will be terrible sushi.

2) The fish is fresh ( and nice portions). If you want to taste a sample without having to pay alot try the chirashi especially at lunch its cheaper.

3) The staff is very nice. It is family owned. I know the family just by eating at this place so damn much (once a week sometimes more). Don't know what to eat? try sitting at the bar and tell him your likes and dislikes they will make something up for you.

4) Price!!! A couple can eat there for $20-25(dinner) and be full. Sit at the bar and Jackie will most likely hook you up with freebies.

Overall this place is great. Cheap house sake, great food. They are chinese owners and they know it, not once do they pretend to be japanese(i hate fakers). The main sushi chef worked and was trained at mikuni's prior to opening his restaurant so he knows what he's doing.

As for the two bad reviews on here I dont even know what to say. Even when I made a mistake and ordered the wrong roll they comped that roll and still made another for me. so I have no idea why they would smash a roll that allegedly had an ant on it (i suspect black sesame :)).

I cannot say more I love this place. try the BBQ Albacore if you have a chance /drool

This is one of my favorite places in Sac. They always have great sushi, big portions and friendly service. I'm always satisfied and the atmosphere is nice. Definitely check this place out. It is one of the few good restaurants in Rancho Cordova

I love Botan sushi! Try this place and you will be hooked. The prices are fantastic and the fish is always fresh. Great place if you want a quick lunch during your workday or bring your entire family for an evening dinner. You will not be disappointed. Located in shopping center next to Grocery Outlet. Zinfandel near Folsom Blvd.

Pros: Great sushi, great prices, never crowded, lots of parking

I have frequented almost every sushi shop in the sacramento area, and Botan beats them all hands down on every front:

-Price (Very resonable)
-Portions (Sushi that will actually have you leaving FULL!)
-Freshness: No room temp. fish that has you hunched over a toilet all night.
-Service: They keep your water glass full, and are very friendly
-Quality: The ingredients are the freshest of any sushi joint, and the taste is a reflection of that.
-It is Quiet, they do have a TV to watch the game on, but it's not one of those super-loud party spots that has you screaming across the table.

All in all I'd recommend Botan Sushi to anyone who loves fish, and is tired of paying 13$ for a roll that is the size of your thumb in a loud obnoxious "Party Zone" atmosphere.

Pros: Portions, Price, Quality, Freshness, Selection

Cons: It is in a Rancho Cordova strip mall

.

Great food, nice owners, reasonable prices. Too bad it's in a crummy shopping center i.e. many vacancies. The food is great, so don't let the outside appearance turn you off.

Pros: great food at reasonable prices

Cons: i would lock up my car when i go inside

.

We usually got to Mikuni but we tried this place since it closer to home. The food is quite good, the portions are huge, and prices are very reasonable. Service isn't great but it wasn't horrible either.

I've tried their menu a few times. With reading the other reviews, they are correct in saying that their portions and value is very good. However, in looking more closely at the food, I noticed ANTS on the outside of my roll. In taking it to the waitress, she smashed the roll telling me there weren't any ants. The cleanliness in a Sushi Restaurant is terrible. Staff isn't pleasant. Watch what you eat!

There are better sushi joints than this, sushi and sashimi gurus would do better to stay away. A lot of their rice dishes aren't that great and the taste is not even close to traditional japanese. For those who've been at a larger variety of places you'll definitely think to yourself at the end "I've had better." Furthermore, the staff is rude and the only thing they can do with much more ease in comparison with their poor proficiency in english is that they will talk smack about their customers in their language to one another right in front of you. Don't bother making the trip, check out Mikuni's or Wasabi instead who serve better food with utmost politeness and respect.

Botan is located in a shopping center so there is plenty of close by parking available. The menu has a good selection of offerings, portions were generous with lots of rice and prices reasonable. The flavoring of some dishes however were not traditional Japanese, especially the miso soup. The sashimi was ok.

This sushi place is a well kept secret. Always busy and full of people for lunch and dinner! The sushi portions are HUGE compared with the small price tags. And the rolls I have had are really good and fresh. I have read reviews of other sushi places, and this one is better than the others mentioned (some start with Mik and some with Sam ;oP). Wait staff are friendly and helpful in deciding what to order as well. Once you go here you won't want to go anywhere else.

Pros: Cost, Fresh Sushi, Location (lots of parking)

Cons: Location (rancho cordova strip mall, may be hard to find)
