Lets just say that if you expect to get a good decent dinner with friendly service... THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO! If your like me and want to feel comfortable and welcomed while your eating your dinner, again... THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO!!!

I was having dinner with my girl, and fair enough we came in a half hour before close, but we ordered within 5 mins.. if not b4! the wine took at least a good 10 mins to come out.. and the food at least another 20... were we supposed to then box it up for take out??

So we proceeded to eat... felt VERY uncomfortable being there, Staff made us feel VERY unwelcomed! One waiter walked by and under his breath (albeit very loudly) said "go home!" other waiters jokingly saying "goodnight" to one another while staring us down... obviously for our benefit! Just RUDE all around... and we weren't even there much past 10pm...

I myself am a server and I understand the annoyance of lingerers... I DO NOT LINGER!! This AGGRESSIVE/RUDE/UNPROFESSIONAL behaviour was enough for me to yelp for the first time...

If their unprofessional rude manner wasn't bad enough... THE FOOD STUNK!!!!!

Mediocre food. Chicken Tikka Masala was a bit too sour. Spinach was watery. Reasonably priced lunch buffet at $9.95, but then they charge you $3 for a drink! No one checked in on me the entire time I was there. Sorry, I'm not coming back.

If you get a chance to check out this place you HAVE to try the mango chicken dish. I forget the exact name but you'll find it. Everything else is good too, but I go for this dish.

Pros: Wonderful Mango Chicken Dish

Cons: Parking/traffic not always the easiest spot

I think they have changed management and ownership. We ordered take out for new year. Even after requesting to make it spicy they didnt. They said it would take 20 mins but it took an hr. The containers wern't labled so we were guessing what we were eating. The quantity wasn't much. For the price I paid for the food, it wasn't worth it. I won't say authentic indian cuisine. The biryani is nothing like indian biryani. Atlest all the meats were tender but that was it.

I've eaten here a dozen times and their lunch buffet is always great! These guys are the same people that own Moksha and both restaurants are great and will not disappoint when you're looking for some great authentic Indian food.

Having always loved Indian and Spice Foods, I spent over 2 months in India, fell in love with the Chicken Tikka Masala there and gained 25lbs. Came home and of course went searching for the same quality dish here in Cali. I went everywhere almost every night, I even went to little India in Cerritos, It took me over 3 months to find it but the Clay Oven actually makes the real deal and the addiction continues. Only difference is that I can work out here Stateside and I've lost the 25lbs.

I LOVE this restaurant, and there Sunday Brunch Rocks too. I also recommend the Shrimp Coconut Curry. Yummers!!!!

5 year customer and they have always been super friendly and attentive.

Only wish that people couldn't smoke on the patio so that I could sit outside sometimes.

Cheers!

If you like variety and bang-for-your-buck, this Indian food restaurant is pretty good. The quality of food in the buffet is not as good as if you were to order a dish separately, though. It seems like everything is just a bit too greasy. But a nice perk is that there are always two different types of dessert included, and also unlimited chai tea. There are always three or four vegetarian options, and the standard non-vegetarian options. The wait staff is not particularly friendly, but they are attentive and never let you drain your water glass.

At this point, Clay Oven has become one of our favorite restaurants in all of Los Angeles. The absolutely best Indian food in the whole town, bar none. And we go to lots of Indian restaurants. Not Tantra, Lal Mirch or the rest can hold a candle to this place. Not the fanciest place (Lal Mirch is fancier) nor the trendiest (Tantra does a good job in that department), Clay Oven is both trendy to some degree and somewhat fancy. It really is worth giving it a try. Their Chicken Makhani is amazing, seriously amazing. And you haven't lived until you've tried their Vegetable Korma Enlightenment. It seriously the closest thing to a religious experience I've had at a restaurant.
A++++++

Pros: Amazing Tiki Masala, Makhani, Korma

Cons: Maybe occasionally slow on the draw with refilling water and sodas. But just ask.

My fiance' and I had dinner there last night and absolutely everything tasted fresh and flavorful! The mint sauce, samosas, okra and vegetable biryani were the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is somewhat hip, fairly romantic... and the food will keep you eating way past "full." My fiance' is vegan and some places can be less than accommodating, but Clay Oven actually caters to the vegan crowd on a regular basis. I'm even considering ordering take out from there tonight!

Clay Oven has great indian food. The service is fast. The atmosphere is really nice. The yellow daal is too good. They remodeled the whole place and it looks great! Mindblowing ambience.

It was my wife's birthday, got a babysitter at noon to watch my 3 year old. Went for lunch buffet at 1pm. Restaurant was hardly thirty percent full. I saw an open booth and asked the hostess for it. She rudely said it was only for 4 people. So she sat us down next to an obnoxious group of six very loud people. Other than the booths, the other tables are tightly pressed up against each other. So we were practically sitting with the obnoxious group. Not a good start. Then I loaded my plate and knew right away that the quality of the food was as bad as the service I received from the hostess. Totally crappy and really tatseless. It is now 5 hours after this disgusting meal, and my stomach is seriously going through bad noises and never mind what else. Oh, and did I mention that ten minutes after we were dining, two people were escorted directly to a booth (via a different waiter). How totally rude. I think the hostess knew I was upset about the booth deal from the beginning, and she knida went out of sight after the waiter sat the other two at a booth. What a dummy. I really wanted to tell the hostess off (being that I'm from NY and all), but my wife pleaded with me not to because it was her birthday. We should have gone to Spumoni down the block as we were originally going to do. DO NOT GO TO CLAY OVER!!!

I thought this restaurant was brilliant. My husband and I went for dinner and the food was just amazing. We ordered the chicken curry and the lamb korma with saffron rice, it was delish! WE would deff go back again. THe waiters were really nice too, Manu the manager was extremely friendly. The ambiance was very simple, they should add some artwork to their walls but overall it was very nice. It wasn't that cheap nor that expensive but be prepared to spend around $50-60 for a couple inc wine. Also their garlic naan is just to die for! I gave it a 4/5 coz of their ambiance but food was top notch quality!

I've been to the Clay Oven for the buffet a few times now and I really like this place. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now but I thought it would be hard to find parking on Ventura. There is actually a pretty decent parking lot in the alley behind the restaurant. The ambiance was much nicer than I expected- All the tables have linen, lots of servers walking around refilling things, and some new-age music playing in the background. All the food was fresh and high quality, but they could probably use another non-vegetarian curry option- the selection was not as large as other buffets I've been to. The naan was hot and fresh and absolutely deliscious with the chicken tikki masala. The Gulab Jamun were also some of the best I've had, but I wish they had ice cream rather than rice pudding to go with them.

I will definitely keep coming back here. The buffet is delicious and the value is excellent. The fun ambiance and easy accessibility make it the best Indian buffet I've had in the Valley.

We tried it for the first time and were VERY unimpressed. We usually eat at Great India Cafe on Ventura in Studio City, but we thought we would give this one a try. We both ordered meat dishes and found the meats to be very inferior quality. "Mystery meat" would be the best way to describe it. Usually we have enough left over to take home for lunch the next day. When the waiter asked us if we wanted anything wrapped up, we said no and he looked offended. The atmosphere was boring. Our waiter was rude. He actually threw the check in the check-jacket back on to our table. I lived in Manhattan and never saw that type of rude behavior there. Don't waste your money or your time. Great India is still far better! I think all of Clay Oven's top-star ratings are submitted by their friends and relatives.

The food was delicious - we had their new Mango chicken, which was just the best. Their garlic naan wasn't the best I've had, but that's not what's going to make or break ratings for me. Also, the waiter was a bit odd - we got the impression that perhaps he wasn't happy that we were sharing the majority of the meal. But it wasn't that big of a deal, actual service was still good, and the chicken was just in a class of its own. And they didn't mind that we hung out for a long time, long after we were done eating.

Used to be decent, although it seemed to have changed management/ownership a few times over the years... went on Friday night, the place has been closed down. Not sure if it's just for a remodel or permanent.

My wife and I visited this restaurant twice. On our first visit, the service was mediocre, but acceptable. Everything took a very long time, waiters went the entire meal without checking to see if we needed refills on drinks (which we did). Which I could understand if the restaurant was full, but there were only six tables of customers in the entire place. We ordered chicken and lamb tikka masala, and naan. Naan came out burned on the edges, no apology. Both tikka masala dishes were bland, with cheap, fatty meat in it. Despite the poor food and service, tipped the waiter extremely well (25%, thought they might just be having a bad night). Likewise, didn't complain or say anything rude to them, as my wife manages an extremely successful restaurant in Santa Monica and we completely understand that any business can have an "off night". We decided to give it another chance, so we made reservations for Valentine's day. Arrived on time, and we were seated. Then nothing. Twenty minutes passed (not an exaggeration, I checked my watch) and we didn't even receive water. No one took a drink order, asked if we'd like an appetizer. Nothing. Tried to flag down a waiter - was completely ignored. Finally flagged down a busboy, asked if we could get someone to take our order, he said OK. No one came by. Five more minutes went by. Meanwhile, the couple next to us (who had arrived 10 minutes later than us) had ordered, their food had arrived, and they were halfway through their meal. Finally, my patience at an end, I went over to the manager, stood three feet away from him, told him that we had been waiting twenty-five minutes and needed a waiter. He looked me square in the eyes, then turned away and completely ignored me. At that, my wife and I left. After all, there's no point in being treated terribly just to receive bad food. Don't know where all the 5-star reviews are coming from - there are way too many restaurants in the area that are so much better.

I have been to this restaurant on four different occassions in over four years and have been consistently disappointed. Although I asked for the food to be spicy (which the rude waiter kept insisting may be too hot) the food was mild at best and not seasoned well. The chicken tikka was tasteless, the saag paneer greasy and tasteless, the mango chicken greasy and tasteless...you can see a pattern here. Their tandoori meats seem not to be marinated long enough. On top, it is somewhat expensive. I can think of 4 to 5 better Indian restaurants in the valley with better food and at least friendly service.

Clay Oven has the best curries in LA for my taste buds. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma are just the best. Great Naan, great veggie dishes, and King Fisher beer (the best indian beer)! Their grilled meats are good, but not the best in the area, and I say stick with the curry style dishes because they are the best!

I like to sit out on the patio and take my time, which they are more than willing to allow (I've never felt "rushed" there). I've been to this place over 20 times and will keep going.

Clay Oven's ambience and staff is very inviting and exotic. The late hours on Fridays and Saturdays are a HUGE PLUS, but that doesn't mean anything if the food wasn't scrumptious. The food is just AMAZING, when you order your dish the food is placed on these mini tea light warmed copper pans, so it makes it easy to share with friends!

A group of my friends & I were out and about in the valley and our appetites were calling out for food. We opted out on fast food and drove by Clay Oven thinking it would be closed by now...about closer to 11ish at night. Low and behold there were patrons inside and in the patio. The sign in front read "Open until midnight Fridays & Saturdays" or close to something of that nature. We were just in luck and were seated promptly. The Kababs and Chicken Tandoori were great starters sizzling from the hot plates. We ended up ordering lamb, shrimp, some vegetable dishes and kept on ordering more of the garlic naans. Nothings better than great food with good company.

I've been dining, take-out & deliveries for years. They are happy to take coupons found in Clipper & Valpak. Food is Great, Atmosphere Eclectic for enjoying fine dining. Friendly service is a plus. They are now open until 12 midnight on Fridays & Saturdays. They also serve lunch buffets on weekdays and champagne brunches on weekends. It's convenient and not at all pricey for the food quality.

We've been to this restaurant twice, and both times, the vegetarian entrees tasted utterly bland and the vegetables themselves looked like they came straight out of the frozen food section at Ralph's. The chicken dishes are a mixed bag--the tikka was good, but the lasooni was dry and too heavy on the cilantro. We're not going back for strike three...

The food is so good at this place. I recently went with my Indian friend and he was commending the chef with each bite of the food we ordered. Besides the exceptional garlic Nan, the Chicken Coconut Curry, Spinach Sag with Tofu and the Chicken Tika Masala have all become my favorites. They serve the food in bowls raised above tea light candles which seem to float over the dining table. Eating family style is so much fun at this place. Clay Oven has this cool mix of first class service, but with a laid back dining experience - you can even watch Bollywood videos on the flat screen tvs scattered around the restaurant. I can't say how much I enjoy this place.

Pros: food, service, ambience

Cons: the regular nan, order the garlic nan

I would not recommend this business based on the fact the customer service is horrible. The food is okay. They are not expensive. They do have a coupon in Valpak.com, but they really hate when you use it. They are not friendly people. They specialize in Indian Cuisine. They do offer a lunch buffet, but you'd better make sure you have gotten all you are going to eat before 2:25pm, because the food is being packed away before the 2:30pm close of the lunch buffet that is even if you have arrived at 2:15pm.

I've been to virtually every top Indian place in LA, and this one is definitely tops! Nice ambience, good service, but the food is truly fantastic. The tandoori lamb chops and chicken coconut curry were out of this world. The vegetarian curries were bursting with flavor and complex spices. Can't wait to go back!

My girlfriend and I just had dinner over the weekend with another couple and it was quite busy. We were seated promptly with courtesy. We've eaten at other restaurants before but none has made their chicken tikka masala as good as Clay Oven's. Our friends were quite impressed too since it was their first time here and our fifth or sixth time. The wine and music just made it even better for our double date.

Lots to say! We had dinner in Clay Oven on November 5 and was looking forward to write my experience to people who are fans of indian food and to those who are not, I recommend this indian cuisine. You will love it. I loved the Ambience, Beautiful chairs and silverware. Service on top of the line, It was crowded when we got there. Our waitress was very friendly, and she was also very professional. But we did not enjoy waiting for the food. We were waiting for almost an hour, but in the beginning the belly dancer entertained us. We ordered lot of food, I highly recommend Chicken tika masala to everyone. IT WAS VERY VERY DELICIOUS!
Overall food and service was great and we will go back again.

As a world traveller, I have tasted food in India and Clay Oven is the best restaurant by far that serves authentic Indian food for those who have not been to India. Namely, chicken tikka masala and saag (spinach) tofu. Yes, tofu! It's delicious and nutritious. Moreover, eating it with the fresh garlic naan makes you want to savor for more. The service was prompt and friendly. I dine in and order food to go every other week. Come try it for yourself!

We dined at this place for their buffet lunch and was quite impressed with their food. Albeit, they had pretty basic Indian-style foods, nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, we enjoyed their food and friendly service. You have to try their bottomless chai tea! It is AWESOME! They did take quite awhile to bring out more but as soon as they did, there was a mini-line that followed to get more of this tea. I agree with some of the other reviews about their slow service, but at least they were pretty friendly. I'd recommend it to anyone who has a craving or would like to try some Indian food...we'd definitely go back again!
