I really would not even give them a single star. Rude, overpriced and incompetent! Dr. Meyer thought my dog had parvo and wanted to charge almost $1000 to treat him. I took him to my vet on Monday and he was better Monday night. The staff is pushy and bossy and rude and they don't care!! they just want money.

My comments concern Dr. Joseph Bielak and the hospital itself.

If you want your animal to survive, do not take it to this hospital.

This place is basically a scam. They bill themselves as an "emergency" center when they should call themselves "We're the only place open!"

I would describe the care as non-existent. In other words, they take sick and severely injured animals, shoot 'em up with morphine and hold 'em over night or until you can get the animal to competent care. If the animal expires, "Oh well, it was pretty injured -- what do you expect?" If the animal lives, consider yourself lucky.

There may be competent veterinarians there but if you happen to get Joseph Bielak -- say goodbye to your animal.

I read about people not liking tulare kings emergency vet and understand that they love there pet but seem to love money more if you are willing to take your pet that is suffering or ill and drive to another clinic or to wait till reg vet opens shows true love right

I brought my dog here to be euthanized, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the experience. A private room and I was taken in quickly, and I found the staff to be compassionate. It was costly, but on a Sunday, any emergency vet is.

I have a menagerie of dogs and cats so the chances of having to use the Pet ER one day would not be inconceivable. About 3 years ago I had to take my boxer in and they took very good care of her.
After reading the more recent reviews, I was very concerned about going back, so much so that I seriously considered driving all the way to Fresno should the need arise.
Well, last Sunday, my usually hyper happy foster pup was acting very irregularly-very lethargic, no energy and no appetite. I didn't want to take a chance, (especially with parvo running rampant) and end up with a dead dog the next morning so I took her in.
The receptionist was excellent, very pleasant and sympathetic over the phone so I decided to try them out rather than drive to Fresno.
All of the staff were very professional and caring and the vet was outstanding. My pup did have parvo but today, thankfully, she is on the road to recovery.
It's important to remember that the ER is a service and a business and just to walk in the door is $85. Both times I've had to visit them, the bill has been over $200 but if it can't wait, and that's the difference between a family member living or dying, it's worth it.

Excellent service and care!

Last Wednesday evening I noticed my Mastiff was passing large amounts of blood when he was trying to have a bowel movement. I immediately called my vet who was closed and was directed to the Tulare-Kings Vet. Emergency Service.

Once I contacted the service and advised them I was on my way, I rushed to Visalia. (I am in Porterville). It did take about a half hour for the tech and the vet (Dr, Daniel Terhaar) to see me, but once they did I had their non stop attention.

I am grateful for Dr. Tehaar's professionalism and wisdom. Although, as it turns out there was nothing that could be done for my beautiful Big Dog, I do appreciate all the kindness and help that they gave me.

In fact, I have a Great Dane with von Willebrands condition and she needs to be spayed. I am hoping I can get Dr. Tehaar to do the surgery for her. Even if I have to take her to his home office at the coast.

I had a sick cat on 11/29/2008 and took him in that Saturday evening. I was treated well from the receptionist, staff and Dr. Daniel Terhaar. We did wait for about a hour, but I'm thankfull I had some where to take him on a Saturday night. They tell you upfront what the charges are and how long a wait. The Dr. was great!
