5 Stars: Pricey and not the warmest place, but quality and care can't be beat (by Carrie G.)

For 2-3 years I have brought my two dogs and an occasional rescue or foster to the Wizard. Its not cheap -- $65 for small breeds -- but I've tried several other area groomers (kutz for mutts, etc.) and none compete in terms of quality and care. Carol and her assistants are good at following clear, reasonable instructions and they're detail-oriented and thorough without taking 5+ hours or traumatizing your dog. My dogs don't like going, but what dog enjoys a trip to the groomer?! If you are reasonably disappointed, Carol will work with you to get it right and she'll take good notes for next time.

5 Stars: Review (by CF B.)

Though I have never written a review I am compelled to do so in this case. My dog, Lafayette had a very long winter coat. It wasn't matted but definitely was a hand full. Carol and Sue of "Wizard of Paws" answered all of my concerns prior to Lafayette's first visit. They were both very patient with what might have been viewed as a somewhat overly concerned dog owner. When I picked Lafayette up after his "spa" day, his appearance was more than I expected. Carol had fashioned his cut exactly as I had instructed and Lafayette did not appear to be stressed out by his experience. If you are looking for a excellent job of pet grooming by staff that cares about your animal and delivers good customer service then this is the place to go. Though pricey, I felt very satisfied with the service. Look at it this way, if you and your companion are satisfied with the service, then it is priceless.

5 Stars: Professional (by anne marie a.)

I had to dogs in the early 90s that I took to Wizard of Paws. I loved the work they did, the dog loved going there but it was really out of the way. So, I tried every other groomer in the Oakland and Alameda area I could find. The Dogs either came back an absolute mess or traumatized by the experience. Well, 2 dogs later I am TILL going to Wizard Of Paws and I still love the work they do and my dogs adore them. Carol does amazing work on my Bichon especially when you consider how litttle I brush her myself.

1 Stars: Dog owners beware! (by Diana S.)

I do not recommend this place at all. My experience with the owner, Carol is that she didn't listen to my specific requests about detangling the hair mats of my dog. I simply asked her to cut off the matted ends, not to shave the dog, and leave his long double coat. What I received was a dog that looked like it just came out of surgery with his front paws completely shaved, as well as his neck area. Instead of hearing my specific instructions, Carol chose to do what she thought was easier for her. I have asked for my money back, and await the return of my check. Incidentally, I was charged an outrageous fee of $70 for the type of service I didn't request!
