DO NOT take your pet here! They are only interested in charging exorbitant rates, often for services you don't need. If you question them in any way, they refuse to take care of your cat. Highly unethical establishment.

I found this hospital on-line and checked their reviews. I noticed many great reviews and a few sounding angry and hostile (because of the cost of the services.) I took a shot at it anyways being that it was a cat only hospital. My cat was having Diarrhea for 3 weeks. I had gotten her from the animal shelter and she had been spayed and got her vaccines there. She had tested negative for Leukemia and cat AIDS. When I booked my appointment at Bastet the receptionist was pleasant and informative. She told me to bring any old records and told me the office exam was $ 55.00. They also informed me they have coupons available online, VERY HELPFUL!!

During the appointment, Dr. Basilious did a fecal test. The test said it was negative for parasites, but Dr. told me it could be a viral disease like FIP or Inflammatory bowel syndrome. He gave me several options, which the receptionist showed me in a printed estimate. He told me I could either just start with the fecal test or do complete blood/ urine test and also x-rays. I choose to add the blood and urine test because I wanted to know. He gave me some medicine and told me to call back in 2 days with an update. One of the Bastet employees called me the following day and told me to come back in (free of charge) to speak to the Dr. regarding the lab results. He explained to me that the protein level was higher than the normal levels. The diarrhea subsided gradually and eventually went away completely with medications and special diet. I found Dr. Basilious was really up front, informative, and gave me options. My experience was positive; I would recommend Bastet to all my friends and family. Although the doctor told me what I did not like to hear he was defiantly more honest and upfront than others and diagnosed the problem right away.

We love Dr. B. and his caring staff. He will take the time to explain each procedure and gives you a choice of treatment plans, from the most basic, to more advanced.
My husband and I feel "the Dr. walks on water." that is a quote from my husband.
As a nurse of many years I know first hand the wonderful care you pet will recieve.
Dr. B. will always answer any questions you have on your pet's halth and care. And the staff is wonderful and kind.

In my 20+ years as a cat owner, I've been to nearly a dozen Vets in 2 states. Bastet Cat Hospital is by leaps and bounds the best we've been to. I've been to Vets that have treated my cats poorly, explained things in terms I didn't understand and even some that prescribed wrong medications. At Bastet I know my cats, whom are my 'children', are in good hands.

My Bombay had a urinary blockage about a year ago, which Dr. Basilious took care of immediately and near perfectly. My cat was hours from death and Dr. Basilious saved him, explained everything to me very clearly, made sure I understood what was happening and gave me very clear and comprehensive information along with signs to look for in the future. This cat is also a rescue, which makes unfamiliar situations very terrifying, AKA he's not that friendly. The staff are able to handle him effectively in that his bad attitude does not get in the way of his treatment.

My other cat, whom is only 5, had a mast cell tumor on the soft tissue of his front paw. Any pet owner that has dealt with tumors/cancer knows how stressful this is to all involved. Dr. Basilious repeatedly took the utmost care of this cat. He was extremely thorough in his handling, diagnosing and follow-up; he conferred with another specialist to ensure the best outcome for my cat. Dr. Basilious removed as much (if not all) of the tumor as allowed without amputating my cat's entire paw. The Oncologist I was referred to in Ventura agreed the work done was as best as possible and now we just wait and see (and hope, pray) the tumor does not come back. Each visit Dr. Basilious is sure to inquire about this cat and his progress; this is appreciated.

I cannot stress enough - if you care for your cats as children, as I (and many of us) do, please do not hesitate in going to Bastet Cat Hospital. We live in Hollywood and make the trip into Burbank knowing our cats will receive the best care. The negative review previous to mine is an unfortunate story, but not typical of this Hospital.

Bastet Cat Hospital is clean, quiet, has a convenient free parking lot and best of all is cat-only. I will continue to go to this Hospital even if we move farther away.

My experience with Bastet Cat Hospital was the worst experience I've ever had with a vet, and I've been to many. The Dr. has a huge ego that doesn't allow him to consider that he may be wrong about anything. He was very condescending, and even smug when I dared to ask him questions about the cat food and medicine he was prescribing for my cats, cat food that has a bunch of junk ingredients and unnecessary additives. He has a very low opinion of holistic pet care. He thinks raw food is harmful to cats, despite their being endless amounts of information out there that contradicts that view. When I consulted a well respected holistic vet and told him about the food the Dr. prescribed for my cats, the holistic vet was very familiar with this food and said that the ingredients could barely be considered food. I took my cat Otis to Bastet Cat Hospital and within hours of the visit, Otis died at home on my living room floor. Now I want to make it clear that I don't blame the Dr. for this, but I feel the Dr. acted negligently. He gave no indication whatsoever that he thought there was chance Otis could die at all. much less within hours. Why didn't he spot this? He took much too long explaining to me how much training he's had and all the seminars he attends and all this stuff which only served to make him seem like a god of cat medicine while meanwhile my poor kitty is short of breath suffering on the table in the examination room. It is true what some of the other reviews say about him having a huge ego and not accepting any information which might challenge his view on cat medicine and health. He even makes you feel like you're less intelligent than him in his responses to your questions. It's true that he doesn't listen and it's true that his prices are through the roof. But I digress. So he spent so much time talking about himself before treating my cat that it started to concern me, my mother and my ex-girlfriend, who were all present at the hospital visit because they all cared for Otis and were concerned for his well being. We all started looking at each other puzzled as he talked on and on about himself and his training and his opinions about irrelevant topics that didn't really pertain to Otis' condition, while Otis just laid there short of breath and suffering. It got to the point where we all agreed silently that he had gone on too long so we spoke up and said that we understood but that it was time for him to treat Otis. We had to say this to him several times before he actually started treating Otis. He ended up performing major surgery on Otis, but didn't keep him there for observation, nor as I previously stated did he give any indication that he thought there was s=even a small chance that Otis could die. With all that expertise that he talked endlessly about, you'd think that he was knowledgeable and experienced enough to know when a cat is in danger of dying within a few hours. So days after my cat's death, my mother went in to the office and asked him why he didn't feel the need to keep Otis at Bastet for observation and the Dr. ignored my mother's question and gave her a smile and simply said that he did the best he could. Unsatisfied with his answer, which satisfied nothing except his ego, my mother asked the question again only for him to repeat the same answer like a broken record or a machine who doesn't understand two way human communication. Someone with empathy would have given my mom an answer with some details, which would've gone a long way to ease her mind and suffering, but instead his way of dealing with her perfectly reasonable inquiry was to more or less ignore the question and give a programmed response that answers nothing. Another qualm is that his staff carried my cat into surgery like he was a piece of meat, offering little support to his lower body and just carrying him under his armpits letting the rest of his body sag. Is that how you carry a cat who is clearly suffering and having trouble breathing. I got the impression that is more important for the Dr. to make money selling the products that he prescribes and recommends to his clients, regardless of whether they actually help or not. He is a classic example of someone with too much pride, who is locked into a belief system, in this case his belief system is western medicine, and has an ego that will not allow adjustments to that belief system. To say that my experience was negative is a gross understatement. My cat died and I am in a lot of pain as a result. The only consolation the hospital offered was a condolence card with not even so much a handwritten message from the doctor or the staff, making it feel like an empty gesture. He even had the audacity to put down as the cause of death being "a raw food diet", which is astounding for several reasons, one being that my cat was not on a raw food diet. I occasionally gave him these freeze dried raw chicken and vegetable patties, emphasis on occasionally.

I have a one year old Chinchilla Silver Persian kitty that I decided to have neutered. I wanted a place that was cats only, and it appears there really are only two choices remotely in my area (LA). I had heard through reviews and relatives that the other place wasn't as good as it used to be, so after reading the reviews of Bastet, I decided to investigate. I went to the hospital a few days ahead, to fill out paper work in advance and to get a feel for the place. It's easy to get to, has ample free parking, and the staff was great.

When I brought my kitty in to meet the doctor, it was as if they were old friends. Dr. Basilious most certainly does have a way with cats. He has a no nonsense attitude, but it is tempered with his affection for the animals. My kitten's surgery went very well and healed beautifully, likely because of the unique way Dr. Basilious performs the surgery.

After having my kitten checked out thoroughly, we discovered that he has crystals in his urine. We are in the process of using a specially prescribed eating program to correct the condition. While it still lingers, he has definitely improved, and we are optimistic that he will be completely free of crystals in a couple of months.

I have seen a few complaints about the cost, and it isn't cheap, but the level of responsiveness and service makes it worth every penny. If you have a special cat, this is the place to bring him or her for very special care.

A big thank you to Dr. B. and his wonderful staff!

I have always had a wonderful experience with Dr. Basilious and the staff at Bastet Cat Hospital. The doctor is exceptionally knowledgeable in his field & helped my cat who has suffered from chronic urinary infections since 2002. He is the only vet who has a 'handle' on my cats physical infirmity. Because of this my cat has not had any problems in 3 years. I am grateful for his resources, colleagues in the field and insight.

We've been taking our cats to Bastet for years and now that we've been newly adopted by a stray, little Charlie has become the newest patient. Everyone there, from the staff, to the office cats to Dr. Sam himself are warm, caring and careful with our cat-kids. We understand it takes a special person to treat cats and we'd never take our cats anywhere else. Dr. Sam will also take the time to carefully explain diagnosis/prognosis/treatment and will offer alternatives so everyone is comfortable financially, physically and emotionally. We have no hesitation in refering Bastet to friends and/or anyone that's looking for a primo cat vet.

Pros: Primo Cat Care

.

Bastet cat hospital has been around for a long time, in our experience they treat their patients with love and care, they are also very kind to the cat owners. They explain to you what is needed to keep your cats healthy; the doctor always explains to you what is wrong. What you can do to prevent cat problems and recommends different options of treatments. Many times Dr. Basilious will say the cat looks good you do not need that test now, come back in 6 months? The staff knows you by name; they know which food your cat is eating. Some people posted reviews on-line accusing Bastet of being expensive but they never explained the condition. If you go to the hospital for yourself and they tell you, you have kidney failure (like in Cats) and you have to be treated you usually never accuse them being expensive. I do not think that Bastet is expensive because you need to weigh the value of the care, also, you are going to a cats only facility that their cost of the facility may be slightly higher than if you go to Small Animals or All Creatures Hospital. Bastet office exam has been $ 55.00 that is comparable with many vets in the area. I am sure that there are many people are happy with Bastet. You make your choice to go see a doctor who will spend the time with you or go to HMO that is going to treat you as a number (in and out), you do not even know what is wrong with you, and you believe that you are getting care for cheap. Honey let me tell you, Cheap is very expensive and expensive is usually price for a value that translate into better quality.

My "boys" have been patients of Dr. Basilious and Bastet Cat Hospital for over 10 years now and I will take them nowhere else! I love my "boys" as they add value to my life with their unconditional love. Dr. Basilious adds value to their lives with his unconditional love for cats.

This morning I woke to a true cat medical emergency!! As I hurriedly dressed there was absolutely no doubt in my mind where I was going to take him - Bastet Cat Hospital! The Bastet staff was caring and compassionate as they checked him in and as soon as Dr. Basilious saw his condition, he knew he was dealing with a gravely ill cat...

With his years of experience and advanced training Dr. Basilious knew the course of action that was needed - none of the "maybe it is this" kinds of tests. As a cat can't tell you where they hurt, it is also important to have a Dr. that has a natural intuitive instinct. He explained all the possibilities to me, including the risks, and then proceeded to care for my ill cat. I have to admit that there was a lot of praying on my part...

Part way through the procedure Dr. Basilious came to show me what he had found and to let me know what he would be doing next...great "bedside" manner is the only way I can think to describe it.

The good news is that my cat came home the same day and is doing much better while we wait for the lab results to come back. If it weren't for Bastet and Dr. Basilious I'm afraid the outcome would have been much different. A special thank you to Dr. Basilious and the staff at Bastet.

I found Bastet about a year ago when one of my 17 year old cats suddenly lost a tremendous amount of weight and his prior doctor dismissed it as him getting old. Dr Basilious did a much more thorough examination and treated my little guy with much more respect. Unfortunately he was sick with aggressive cancer and it was too late to save him, which ended up being the worst day of my life. I am however sure that if I would have found Bastet earlier that he would have had a better chance. I later on brought in his twin brother for a checkup and he was diagnosed with CRF. Dr Basilious recommended special diets and daily medication which have extended my babies life and well being. He??s running around happy and his symptoms have not gone worse. He initially had a hard time getting used to the new diet and the Bastet staff helped me find something that works. Both my babies and I have always been treated with respect and I feel very comfortable visiting Bastet hospital. Prices are a bit high especially during these times but at the same time you get the proper medical care and that is more important than anything. So I am giving a high recommendation.

There is NO other doctor I would take my cats to see! The staff is always helpful and really know my cats well. I feel like they are family! Dr. Basilious LOVES cats and it shows. He has helped me diagnose issues in advance to help my cats live healthier, longer lives than ever imagined! With his proactive care and treatments, my senior cats have lived over 1.5 years with kidney failure, and they are happy and doing great!

My younger cats are healthy and happy, and they are very active! When I thought about moving to the west side, I thought, "oh no, I can't live so far from Bastet! That just won't work for me!" So, I am staying in Glendale! I'm 100% serious here... that's how much I love my cats! They deserve the BEST vet in LA!

My cat had lost a great deal of weight. I brought her to Bastet because of the great reviews posted on the net. After a quick exam Dr. Bascilious walked out of the room and the receptionist returned with paperwork to perform aprox. $1,000+ of tests (X-rays, Bloodwork and Urine). I asked if the Dr. was available to discuss the tests. He came back in the room angry and said words to the effect that I was a bad pet owner if I didn't run all of the tests. I nicely asked if we could start with the bloodworkup and urine. He said, "that's your choice" and walked out of the room. He sent the receptionist back in and I signed off and moved back to reception to pay for the tests. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes. I was given the results over the phone and I ordered the insulin, shots and purchased the canned and dry prescription food. I made an appointment to go over the tests and waited for over an hour the first time (rescheduled for the next day when the receptionist told me it would be another hour or two). At the next meeting, I couldn't figure out how to get the Dr. to explain the test results and how to treat my cat. He just stood there as I asked a series of questions (how much food, how much insulin, where do I give the injections, etc.). It was like pulling teeth and very frustrating. My mother has diabetes so I asked if I should use a glucometer. His answer, "if you want". So frustrating. I get the sense that if he doesn't feel you meet his criteria (money based) he tries to discourage you from becoming a regular client and is generally in a pretty foul mood. He doesn??t provide the pet owner with the information needed to properly care for their pet.

My kitten Katia was having problem going to her cat litter and ultimately stopped eating. I took her to a neighbourhood vet clinic. Even though the veterinarian who examined her said that he did not find any sign of constipation, he treated her with enemas and charged me a lot of money. When I went to pick her up and wanted to ask questions, the vet was very abrupt and told me that he was busy taking care of a sick cat. Being in health care myself, this treatment and attitude did not sit well with me. My experience was completely different at Bastet. Dr Basilious was thorough in his evaluation and found out that my kitten's primary problem was urinary crystals and not constipation. He took the necessary time to explain both Katia's diagnostic findings and treatment with me. Now, the treatment is completed and my cat is healthy. Dr. Basilious being a specialist, his services cost a little more than at a regular vet clinic. In spite of that, I highly recommend Bastet Cat Hospital for your cat care. Evelyne F

Dr. Basilious gave us a lot of options to deal with our cat's liver failure. He Identified the problem (hepatic lipidosis) and laid out treatment plans and even tried to save us money. Yes it was "expensive" like you'll read below, but it was an expensive problem. He helped us design a treatment plan that would be good for our cat and cost us the least. He never minced words and we walked away saving our cat's life for a 1800 dollars instead of 6000 dollars. I've never had a routine check up there so I can't say one way or another if the below reviewer is correct. But I know that he didn't try to make money off of us and was very sensitive to our needs. Go here.

i have been going to Bastet Cat Hospital for about 7 years now. I have never had a negative experience. All of the staff members are professional, respectful, and handle my cat with compassion and care. Dr. Basilious is honest, knowledgeable, and experienced. There has never been a wait time, Dr. Basilious has been honest as to what is necessary for my cat and especially as to what i am able to afford financially. This facility is a great deal, and dont add on any unnecessary exams. I would not want to take my cat anywhere else. I would strongly recommend this facility to any cat owner.

I've been taking all of my cats to Dr. Basilious for over 10 years now- he's the best veterinarian I have ever found in my 35 years of pet ownership. My cats have always received the best of care, and he is always extremely patient and kind. He is not the cheapest choice, but you get what you pay for. Over the years, he has gone above and beyond what most vets would to care for my cats, especially my "problem kitty" who never would have had such a long and happy life without Dr. Basilious. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Would you take your Lamborghini to Pep Boys? No you wouldn't. Sure, Pep Boys does some good work, but sometimes a specialist is needed. I have rescued several Cats over the years and if I'm not attached to it and I'm going to find it a home I don't go to Bastet, for the reason that the prices are a little higher some Vets, in the area. However, Dr. Basilious IS THE BEST and you do pay for that.

Another question for "J R.".

Would you take your own child to Tijuana for Brain Surgery? Don't answer that, here, if your answer is "yes". You'll only embarrass yourself.

No one who reviewed this vet talked about how much it cost. Sure you'll get "the best" care and you will pay for it...hundreds of dollars. Do not take your cat here for routine check-ups and blood work. A regular vet will charge you considerably less and provide you the same care and services. Emergencies only...sure. I am never going back there.

I had been to several Vets, with 3 cats, in the S.F. Valley before I found Bastet. I heard about Dr. Basilious from a Co-Worker who talked about him with such great praise that I thought he had to be shilling for the guy. Not the case, as I would later learn.

I had a situation with a 14 year old cat who ballooned to 24+ pounds. Then, in less than 2 months dropped to less than 12 pounds. He was looking good, but I had a feeling that dropping that much weight in such a short time was not right. I needed a professional opinion.

Long story-Short...Dr. Basilious had to pull several teeth, that were poisoning "Whitey" and then he gave me some disturbing news...My cat had Diabetes.

I thought it was OVER for him, but through Insulin Shots, a Food Regimen and regular check-ups Dr. B. brought "Whitey" back to life. He's still hangin' in there and doing great at 18 years old.More than I could ever hope for.

I started bringing my two cats to the Bastet Cat Hospital over three years ago after becoming unhappy with the care I'd been receiving at Studio City Animal Hospital. I've always found Dr. Basilious to be incredibly compassionate and a true expert in everything related to my two cat's health. Even just in the last few weeks he noticed something on an x-ray that my vet in New York had missed. (I split my time between NYC and Los Angeles)
Both of my cats are older and have had their various health problems and the Dr has always taken a lot of time with me to explain everything in a very detailed manner so I always feel totally confident and informed with the plan for my animals. This facility isn't a 'factory' like many vet's offices seem like. It's very specialized and the service is very personal. I know this kind of care may seem a little more expensive..(although it's not any more $$ than I was paying at Studio City Animal Hospital) but the peace of mind I have knowing I'm providing my animals with the best care is worth it. I have also referred friends to the hospital who have also had great experiences. (including a friend's cat who fell out of a 6th floor window and suffered a broken jaw)

My cat Bailey was a patient of Dr. Basilious?? for three years. I couldn??t have asked for better care for my best friend. As a matter of fact I would tell Bailey he was getting the Cadillac of care. But really he was getting the Rolls-Royce of care.

As a clinician myself, I realize that one of the gold standards of care is to always provide the patient with conservative treatment first. If an effective treatment can be provided that enables the patient to experience the least discomfort than this treatment should be always be provided. This is true of all patients including humans, cats and dogs. Dr. Basilious practices this standard in a very methodical and thoughtful way and always provides compassionate, conservative care for his patients.

Something that is often overlooked in the medical profession is the importance of educating the patient. I can??t begin to tell you how many hours Dr. Basilious painstakingly discussed Bailey??s condition with me and the treatment options and why those were the best treatment options. Any human being should be so lucky to have a doctor that takes this kind of time with them and makes this kind of effort.

I have had the experience of trying to find a veterinarian in the Los Angeles area in which I feel comfortable. This can be a very cumbersome and worrisome effort that in the past has not provided good results. Now, I feel a great deal of comfort in knowing that when I adopt another cat I know exactly where I??ll take him or her for their medical care.

It is so wonderful to find a place that specializes in cats. Not only did my cat receive the best care, but the doctor also took the time to educated us on our cats condition, and how we can best care for him. They really do care here, and they pride themselves on service.

I've used a lot of vets for a lot of cats in my 55 years, and Dr. Basilious is one of the best ever. I had my doubts at first (dentistry as the first step in controlling renal insufficiency?) but I can't argue with success. My cat has lived very happily for four years with her kidney problems after another vet had given her 6 months - and with no pills, just food additives. Plus, he really cares about cats; it's more than just a business.

My cat has lived very happily for four years with her kidney problems after another vet had given her 6 months - and with no pills, just food additives. Plus, he really cares about cats; it's more than just a business.

I never thought anyone could replace Dr. Martin Small when he retired from VCA, but after several years' search I discovered Dr. Basilious. He tends to go after primary causes rather than symptoms, so I was initially startled that he wanted to attack my cat's renal problem at her dental abscesses (source of bacteria) - but it worked! While the initial dentistry was expensive, it only had to happen the one time (4 years ago). She's now 16 years old and is doing well on low-phosphorus food with no medication.

Pros: Expertise, Dog-free office

I took my cat in to see Dr. Basilious, because he specialized in felines only. My cat has never had any serious medical issues, and so I was quite concerned about his welfare. Dr. Basilious was very gruff and rude with me when I asked questions about my cat's condition. I wanted him to fully explain my cat's prognosis, but he seemed to take that as me being difficult. He charges double what most vets in the area charge. After visiting him, I ended up having to take my cat to an emergency clinic anyway, where they actually charged forty dollars LESS than Dr. Basilious, and yet it was emergency care. I definitely would not recommend Dr. Basilious to anyone.

I have been taking my cats to Bastet Cat Hospital for nearly eight years now and I recommend the hospital to everyone I know. First of all, it's a cat hospital . . . so I don't have to worry about barking dogs or other noise that would scare just about any kitty. Dr Basilious is a caring veterinarian who goes out of his way to explain his diagnoses and spends the time to explore all treatment options. He carefully considers his clients' wishes and circumstances and gives excellent advice on what's best for his feline patients. For TLC with no mystery, take your kitties to Bastet Cat Hospital.

I'm writing this positive review because I found a few bad reviews mixed in with the mostly excellent ones on a couple of sites. I've been taking my cats to Bastet Cat Hospital for nearly eight years and I couldn't be happier with them. Dr Basilious is excellent with my cats; he knows how to calm a cat after a ride in the car and he is always gentle while examining the patients. This is the only vet I've known who regularly takes the time to explain his diagnoses and always discusses treatment options, as he realizes that everyone has different priorities and financial situations. He gives his recommendations and leaves it up to the client to decide how they can and want to proceed. I have never been charged for any service I didn't receive, and in fact the doctor has often reduced or eliminated fees to thank me for my continuing loyalty to the hospital. Just an added bonus to my allover good experiences here; I gladly pay slightly higher fees in exchange for a cats-only environment with up-to-date equipment, medicine, and veterinary knowledge . . . and a caring, considerate doctor! I recommend Baster Cat Hospital to everyone who loves their cat.

Pros: Extremely gentle, caring, considerate doctor

Cons: Turnover in office staff lately

Dr. Sam and his entire staff are warm and courteous everytime I stop in. I am confident that my cat receives the utmost care from the competent and compassionate staff at Bastet.
I regularly refer Bastet to my friends with cats as the staff is particularly skilled with all temperaments of felines. Dr. Sam goes out of his way to teach me something about my cat's health in every visit. It's always a pleasure!

Wow, where do I start? I usually don't write negative reviews about bad businesses, but if I can prevent someone who loves their cat from going to Bastet, I will. The doctor is beyond rude and unprofessional. Made us feel stupid when we asked him simple questions about our cat's health (this was a routine exam), and has absolutely no bedside manner when it comes to his feline patients. Maybe he had a bad day but this is no way to treat your clients. We also found out he charged us for services that weren't performed (alerted to us by one of his staff) and grudgingly removed it from the bill. Avoid like the plague.

We've been taking our cats to Bastet for years. Through cancer, heart disease, irritable bowel disorder, and just plain check ups. Dr. Basilious is thorough and compassionate yet understands minimizing pain to the cats and cost to us. We've lost two pets while going to Bastet and, although our kitties eventually died, the care that they received during their health problems was excellent and the doctor and staff were extremely caring towards our babies and us. I could not recommend them more highly.

Even my cat loves going to the vet now! This place is great for my kitty, and they always take great care of her. I took my kitty to many places before finding Bastet, and I am so happy I finally did. Love it!

Bastet Cat Hospital is the best place I?ve ever brought my cats. I would tell anyone in the entire area to bring their cats to Dr. Sam Basilious. Dr. Basilious is a warm, caring and a responsible veterinarian.

I brought my Abyssinian to Dr. Basillious for a possible urinary blockage-in cats, potentially fatal. The Dr. said he would have to anesthetize my cat in order to do x-rays and catheter his urinary tract-in other words, he had all ready diagnosed a problem without the x-rays. I was then given an estimate by one of his techs for over 850.00-most of which was not even mentioned by the Dr. beforehand. My main complaint is that he said he would get right to it.. He said to come back in 45 minutes and he would be done. As I was leaving, 2 people arrived with another cat. I came back in an hour (15 more minutes than the Dr. asked for). My cat had still not been treated. I could hear the Dr. talking to people in one of the treatment rooms. These were the people who came in after me. He was clearly not discussing the health of their cat. I was upset but not loud or angry when I asked the tech why he was just talking to these people and not treating my cat. I said I would have come back in 2 hours if you said 2 hours. The Dr. must have overheard me because he came angrily storming out of the treatment room and yelled at his tech to get my cat out of here-he would not treat him and how dare I tell him what to say to his clients. Suddenly my cat came running out of the back obviously scared and the Dr. yelled-"put him in the carrier". I said he will not let anyone but me go near him at this point as the cat was very tense. He repeated no, "I don't want to treat your cat, and you can't come back here to get him!". Finally, the other clients left and he allowed me to put him in the carrier. By now, I was in shock-I had never seen anything like this. I did not know where else to bring him. The tech (the one who was shocked as well), gave me the # and address of a place about a mile away. I called them (VCA Pet Hospital on Olive in Burbank) and Jill, the office manager told me to bring him right in. Night and Day. They took him in and treated him with care and compassion.
