My teenager has been taking guitar lessons from John McCrae at World of Music for two years, and over the years we've bought music, rented guitars, and now bought guitars from them (my younger son's studying now as well). The whole time they have been helpful, courteous, and flexible. It has the friendly small-town feel, where they get to know you, your tastes, and your character. I enjoy it greatly.

They have a great selection of music books, and a quite good selection of classical guitars (I wouldn't know about other instruments). They've special-ordered books & called us promptly, and just this week Larry noticed a couple of things that saved us money. A couple of times early on they let my young son borrow a 1/2 size guitar when he took my (ill) older child's guitar lesson.

They have a suite of a half-dozen practice rooms in the back that are used for instruction in guitar, clarinet, trumpet, piano, vocals, etc. The instructors have been there a long time, and the employees are quite stable as well. The only thing I wish is that they were open on Sundays as well -- but I guess that that's the tradeoff in them not being part of a chain. When we are ready to buy a $500-800 guitar, we'll be buying it from them.

Pros: friendly, knowledgeable folks, excellent guitar teachers, fine selection of music, instruments

Cons: not open Sundays. not a "mega-store".

.

Rude customer service; flimsy instruments - expensive.
Terrible selection of bad sheet music too.
Go elsewhere.

World of Music has a large selection of music for sale, and if you can't find something your looking for, they are always ready to order it for you. Instruments and other accessories are also sold there. The employees are helpful and all know about music. I believe they also offer lessons for various instruments there. Overall, very good store though a bit pricy

World of Music has a good selection of student music. Whenever I was given a list of things to buy from my music teacher, they'd always have it in stock. Furthermore, the salespeople are always willing to assist you to find what you need. In terms of having a broad selection of other types of sheet music, I'm not really familiar with that--however I figure that whatever you can't find there you can just by off the internet?

Features a large selection of music scores, CDs, instrument rentals, and equipment. Went here to buy music scores because i play violin. Very easy to find (categorized) and employees always willing to help. Can be a bit pricey though.

They charge about $100 a year for instrument rentals (good if in school band). World of Music also has a backroom that can be used for teacher conferences. Very large and private.

Best music store in town

They've got a great selection of sheet music, but I feel like they're a little lacking in the musical instruments department. I wish they'd carry some more of the higher end, professional brands of guitars but other than that, this place is great.

World of Music carries a full selection of sheet music, and has lessons available from such name musicians as Gail Dobson for voice! If you are into jazz, they have every Jamie Aebersold play along CD ever cut.

The only suggestion I have for improvement, as an instrumentalist, is that they start to carry more professional lines of instruments along with their student models.

PROS: Great roster of teachers, wonderful sheet music selection
CONS: Poor selection of professional quality instruments

This is a great store for music students, especially children and adult beginners. The people here are friendly and knowlegeable. The selection of music is excellent, with method books, classical and popular sheet music, and advanced books on jazz and composition. There is a good selection of entry level and student instruments, but fewer professional level instruments.
