I went to Z on Wednesday with my friends, the food was good, but 1 of the waitress, she was so rude and loud. she just ruined our dinner. She not supposed to work as a server. When she served our dinner, she put the plates on table was so unappropriated and not even apologizes but just laugh and walked away.
WE likes go over there so hopefully, she don't have to serve our table.

first date is a MUST ! ! !
my experience at Z Sushi was fun filled and memorable from day one to now almost every friday over the past 15 months. the sushi bar is a perfect size for you and your date or small party. the food is always fresh and never disappointing. i just wish they were open later everyday... thats my only complaint but then again it keeps me on my toes for that next day :)

i've brought friend, dates, neighbors and kids. they have a kids menu and two rooms away from the sushi bar if you like to be "alone". the main drinking bar serves more like a bonus... i wouldn't go there for just a drink or to watch sports. its not rowdy enough for that type of horse play.

to each his own!
enjoy

We've been going to Z sushi for 5 years now and it has never let us down. The fish is on the most part fresh and well prepared. The chefs are young but seem to know their stuff. I see and recognize plenty of returning patrons so something keeps bringing us back. Great place!

This is a family oriented sushi place, so it you want to have fun with friends DO NOT GO THERE!!!! The sushi was ok, however, they got our order wrong a few times. The waitresses were not apologetic about the mistakes, and tried to say that it was our faults. We were out for a girlfriend's birthday, and we were trying to have a good time. Regardless, they brought the check before we even asked for it, which pretty meant that we had to leave. Do not go there, if you would like FUN.

I go here all the time. And every time I go it's a good experience. We always sit at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs know us already and they always know what we want. The entire staff is friendly. I love this place. Sushi is super fresh and it's inexpensive. I totally recommend it. Their Oysters are delish. Their namahage sake is excellent.

Great place to get sushi. We didn't sit at the sushi bar, so couldn't comment on what the service was like from what some of the other reviewers were saying. However the service we recieved at the tables was great. Overall recommend.

Ok I?ve been to MANY MANY MANY sushi places here in LA and this is one of the worst. First off and this may not matter to some of you but they have a B health dept rating. IMO a sushi restaurant should have an A. The sushi chef was not helpful nor did he seem to care about his job, when I asked him what was good today, he said everything. When I asked him if he had dungeonous crab he said no I have blue crab, but that his favorite was king crab. I said OK I?ll have king crab, he said no we don't have that. I said OK I?ll have blue crab he said no we don't have that?... On to the food. It was BELOW average not horrible not good, it was bad. The tuna was poor quality light pink not a nice deep red hue, it was tough and poorly cut. The albacore while tender to the mouth had a horrible "kitchen cleaner" aftertaste. The scallop was tough and old, and the eel was undercooked and gooey. So I figured maybe this is a roll place and I ordered a spicy tuna roll the spices used in their spicy tuna were bland and un appetizing. I would not recommend the sushi at this place to anyone, they did have cooked items on the menu too but if your going to name your restaurant "something sushi" I?d expect it to be decent and this was quite BAD. The prices were good so I?ll give them that and the waitress was friendly. OH and the guy that fills up your green tea was great very attentive LOL but the food eck YUCK.

I tried many different sushi bar in California, this is one of the worse. Because of the food quality, they are miss well prepare for the food, also I think the chefs are missing knowledge for the food cleaning. I ate the oyster that is not fresh and still have little rock inside. Also, I ordered some hand rolls it were like a mess, still have some finger pin, I cannot define that is a hand rolls, but those waiter just make joke and left . Before you guys want to go this place, please think about the safety.

The food at Z was delicious. The sushi was extremely fresh (toro) and the kitchen food was good as well (I recommend the BBQ beef). The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was quite nice. The service was excellent and the servers and chefs all seemed like they were having a good time. I definitely recommend Z sushi (they also have a full bar!).

Great Atmosphere, sub-par sushi, Terrible service. If I were a camera man filming a
commercial, it would make perfect sense to ignore my party and pretend that we weren't
there. As a patron, the treatment received was unacceptable by an standards.
Even after acquiring our waiter's attention, we would not receive attention until he was chased
down the hall and reminded that we had not yet paid the check. Otherwise fun atmosphere as the waitresses, hosts and chefs are very cheerful and seem to enjoy their work. I would incline
to rate this place a 7, had they known the difference between black and green tea, demonstrated the ablility to fill an order and follow instructions about what our order should consist of... since this is not the case. I would give it a 5.5 at best.

Recommended. Here's why:

1. Perfect amount of rice: My pet peeve is with the amount of rice used in rolls. Some places stuff the rolls with alot of rice and cut back on the other ingredients. Here, it was just the right amount of rice.
2. Atmosphere: I just felt comfortable.
3. Service: We went in a fairly large group and we didnt have to stop someone to ask for refills. That's saying alot.
4. Selection: It always seems that we know one person who refuses to eat seafood. No worries, they can come too. THat's right, they have steak, and chicken too.
5. Price: Ever walk out after paying the bill, and being disappointed. I hate that feeling. That's why I found the pricing for the food to be right on point. No regrets.
6. Freshness: The rolls, the sashimi, the sushi.... everything was excellent.

Conclusion: Highly Recommend

I had the sushi dinner (about 9 pieces of sushi and chicken terriyaki). The chicken was tender and juicy but the portion was pretty small. The sushi....one shrimp, one salmon, two of something, and 4 pieces of spicy tuna. The salmon was the best and everything else was OK.

The service was not that great...not sure if it was just tonight because it is a Saturday night and it seemed like there were two large parties.

I would have to say that the ambience was the best part for me.

It's hard to miss the fountain on your left as you enter. We had to admire it on the way out after a very satisfying meal. Great atmosphere with an assortment of music and appropriate lighting. The appetizers are a must. The tofu steak was the size of an entree, but only if you enjoy lots of tofu and vegetables. We shared a sashimi dinner, reasonably priced, which included tuna, salmon, albacore, snapper, surf clam, and halibut. The portions were nice, but it'd be nice to have the usual miso soup, edamame, tea, and dessert. But the staff was quick and courteous and there's good parking. If lunch really is cheaper, as the other reviews say, I'd have to make this my favorite sushi spot (everything else being the same).

Honestly, I didnt have much expectation when I first tried Z sushi. I grew up eating sushi all my life and quite picky about it. The Ther are dime and dozen sushi restaurants popping out everywhre in west LA area, and all trying to be the next trendy fusion sushi restaurant. So I thouht this is one of them in SGvalley. A lot of dishes are actually very authentic and traditionally prepared at its finest. Almost all the special of the day displayed behind sushi chef's head is worthy of trying. Some dishes are still prepared in a more fusion taste with nice presentation, but you can still tell the chef hasnt forget his traditional trainning of making authentic sushi. Raw fish at its best. Fresh!

The quality of the food was excellent. The quantity left something to be desired. Good drinks, and ambiance, but they kept playing that annoying "Bablyon" song over and over. The waiter forgot to bring me my Salmon Carpaccio. I had to ask for it when the waiter asked if we wanted our bill. After soup and two of the tasty special dishes, I left hungry and not terribly impressed.

Z was "Z" best sushi restaurant I've been to in a long time. From the easy parking (they have their own large lot) to the amazing waterfall pond in the entrance to the friendly service to the fresh sushi, delicious food, golden apple martinis, and tempura ice cream to the amazingly inexpensive bill I received at the end ... everything was delightful. Z has a homely feel with a beautiful atmosphere. When I went back for lunch, I was shocked to discover that their prices were even lower. Their portions were also huge. I am writing because I know how difficult it is for people to switch sushi restaurants but I recommend Z because I have now become I regular there and I am having a hard time switching to any other sushi restaurant. (And yes ... they have an A rating!!!!!)

Z Sushi's great! I'm a regular. The reason i go back so often is because of the friendly service and consistently good food (fresh sushi). The ambience is great.. light jazzy music like Norah Jones and contemporary japanese decor with candles everywhere. i love it! It's a nice place to go to for a romantic date or just for drinks. Their lunch menu is pretty inexpensive too. The only thing I would change about this place would be their hours. They at around 11pm. But other than that, great place over all!

The people at this place were super nice. The wait staff, the hostess, the bartenders.. all great.
The sushi though lacked taste. The tempura was good but not amazing. I had the Albacore with Garlic sushi and wished I hadnt... not that it was gross or anything, just wish i had picked something else.. the spicy tuna rolls were decent as were the octopus and calif. rolls...
not a bad experience by any measure but there are better sushi in the area. All this said... maybe i went on a bad night.

I had a wonderful time at Z. My sister recommended this place and said she discovered it when she drove by. The atmosphere was wonderful. They had good music, friendly service ... but the food. Their toro melted in my mouth and the salmon carpaccio was delicious.

I had a wonderful time at Z Sushi. The food was extremely well crafted and presented and it was absolutely delicious. The service was pleasant and not overbearing. The sushi was fresh and they offered premium toro as well as daily specials flown in from Japan. My friends who did not eat sushi were delighted by their abundance of cooked items such as the BBQ Beef (Try It!) and Black Cod. They had a wide variety of sakes and a full bar. The prices were unbelieveably low. A++

Pros: Price, Food, Atmosphere

Z definitely came as a complete surprise. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was trendy and classy. I was absolutely taken aback by the price. It was inexpensive and very reasonable. They had a variety of sushi that was flown in from Japan and their Beef Wrapped Asparagus was delicious. You must try their "Z Special". The one drawback is their location. It is in Alhambra next to In N' Out and so I didn't expect to find such a nice Japanese restaurant. In fact, I found Z Sushi when I walked over from In N' Out because the line at In N' Out was too long and I was hungry. Z is a great place to take clients and friends.

Z Sushi came as a complete surprise. The sushi was extremely fresh and they had a wide variety of cooked entrees for my colleagues who didn't eat sushi. Z's premium toro was delicious and their BBQ Beef was unlike anything I have ever tasted. They had a full bar with exotic sakes (raspberry!) and martinis. The music was delightful, the service was great and parking was convenient. The prices were unbelievably low for the elegant atmosphere that they offered. Z is definitely one of the best kept secrets and my new favorite Japanese restaurant.
