I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Culligan. I love what the whole house filter does to the water in my house, but I hate how expensive it is to maintain and how Culligan enforces that expense by locking out competition from providing service and parts and charging exorbitant service fees and part prices.

The salesman that originally sold me the unit went on and on about how economical having a whole house filter is, but make no mistake, it is a LUXURY item and like other luxury items such as exotic cars, the purchase price is only the price of admission and the after sale costs of maintenance are really how they getcha.

I am not a rich person, very middle class, but the water in my area is about as subtle as 80 grit sandpaper so I opted to purchase this filter to minimize sedimentary build up in my pipes and to obtain the benefits of softened water for my baby's clothes and bathing needs. Make no mistake, the filter/softener does an amazing job of turning harsh water into soft water, but at a significant hidden annual cost.

In addition to yearly maintenance (filling up the salt tank every 6 months to the tune of about $40, and having the tech come out to replace the filter to the tune of about $250), the device frequently has problems that a tech is required to repair. They charge $150 minimum for the service fee plus parts. One day the tech came to my door after a repair call and handed me a bill for $550 claiming that he had to rebuild the entire system. After screaming at the company for not having me approve this service before he went ahead and did it, they finally caved in and gave me $100 off the bill, but still, my annual expenditure for the unit that year was just under $1000. Since my unit is now over 5 years old and starting to show it's age, these surprise visits from the tech are becoming more and more frequent, making my annual expense for softened water a very costly commitment.

If you're rich and can afford this luxury, then you will love this unit. But beware because the salesman will never tell you about the back-end costs and once you're in, you're stuck.

They don't deliver tanks for months, keep charging me, won't return my calls to get my credit for the 3 months I paid for no service and when I reach their delivery clerk she is rude and unapologetic. This the second time they don't deliver when they're supposed to. I'll find much better service somewhere else. Avoid like the plague!

I have had Culligan in my home for the past 17 years. The water tastes great & I have had no problems! I also have the soft water system that does wonders for my laundry like I was told it would. The tanks are changed regularly and my reverse osmosis system is maintained as well. I highly suggest this service and this facility, to everyone!
