When I used to live in the East Bay I headed to the Englander often. It was a great place to eat, a ton of beer choices, and the chili was awesome. The only bad time I had was when they hosted an Oakland Raiders night, and a huge brawl broke out. Police came in, stools were flying. We got out before they used the pepper spray.

First timer midday lunch last Friday, friend raved about the $3-$4 appetizers, was coerced into sharing fried foods instead of anything on menu. Wait staff was changing, gal didnt write down our order, brought us fried cheese sticks (yuK) instead of the quesidillas (on appetizer menu) which we had to wait forever for, but then came in the form of Toquitos! Hmmm, but were edible. Then my friend ordered a Rueben sandwich meal to take home for dinner to enjoy w/ her 88 yr old invalid Mum, and upon setting out dinner, found the potatoe salad was missing. I remember her having to choose which side dish she wanted. We were outside, so we werent distracted by any TV's, but I dont know what happens when the wait staff goes inside. My friend is not as fond of her favorite spot today as in the past. I hope they make it up to her. I think she was embarrassed after raving about it to me.

Don't even come near this restaurant unless you patronize it on Wednesdays. I was going to review this restaurant with a local patronizer who is a marketer and wanted me to feature Farmers Market in a blog. After seeing some beautiful orchids, we purchased it and put it in the car. We were not out of the car for 5 minutes but within those few minutes received a parking violation for $45.00. My contact tried to request the owner of The Englander to void the ticket but he told her she had to pay it 'unless I see the press person'. It is quite ridiculous because this family were huge fans of this restaurant and $45 is LESS than what one meal for them is. Easy to pay the ticket...bad PR for the owner, Jot Mangat. It was a bad experience for me - but that is what going undercover is all about. If you tell them you're ''PR" - they'll pull all the stops for you to impress. When you unannounced - you can see the real deal. Bad rap for the city of San Leandro...the meter maids are more than happy to slap a souvenir in your windshield. Stay away or park in somewhere more customer friendly. PS: Very rude people.

I was visiting the area and wanted to watch the Steeler game on Sunday. I headed down here after refusing to pay a cover charge at a bar down the street. It was wonderful, there were plenty of TV's showing the game and we were promptly seated. I had and the Monterrey Chicken Sandwich and the garlic fries, they were great. The waitress was so sweet and so nice. I will definitely go back there when I am back in the area.

Pros: Service, Football Games

Cons: None

.

The service is leisurely but human, the beer is drinkable but not cheap, and the two dozen or so TV screens showing various sports are... a little overwhelming but the bar's raison d'etre.

I would get rid of some of the meaningless colonial sports and focus on proper football, but that's just me. Indispensable.

We have been here a few times now. The service is patchy at best but they have a nice selection of beers on tap, a nice, if overwhelming selection of TVs screening sporting events from around the world and a very good menu with options for everyone. Excellent french fries. Eurocup fans, this is the place to watch it on Setanta over a pint at lunch but sit at the bar or you may be ignored by the wait staff who are understandably distracted by the many screens. I missed a freak goal because the tv next to the one I was concentrating on got my eyeballs for that crucial 2 seconds. Anyhoodle. Lots of beer and chips and sportz.

Everything is great, been to this one and the one in Dublin. Fish Pie is to die for.

This a very solid English bar with good pub fare. If it was in San Francisco it would packed all the time as it is it does pretty nicely. Great spot for east bay sports. Very large selection of UK beers.
